Interesting idea but I checked, and no, the font is not part of a style.

Many thanks, that seems to have done the trick for most of the fonts. The remaining unopened fonts I handled with my font manager. I've turned on "auto activate" again; hopefully that will solve the problem completely.

To reset the InDesign preferences back to the factory defaults, do this: 1) Close InDesign 2) Double click on Adobe InDesign's icon to launch it 3) QUICKLY hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift. (for Windows) or CTL+OPT+CMD+Shift (for Mac OS X) 4) When a dialogue appears, asking you “Delete InDesign Preference Files?” Click Yes. If you don't see the question repeat the procedure again.

There are a number of ways, but selecting a Russian keyboard with an on line guide to the keys seems a good one. https://www.reed.edu/it/help/cyrillic.html (see step 6 for the keyboard viewer on screen).

I think so, but happily I realized I didn't have to make the change. At this point I am strongly considering abandoning Indesign in favor of Affinity, which opens easily and costs less, and has essentially the same features. I will miss this Community, if I do.

Thanks, Barb. I tried editing but it did something strange, making new copies of the items that were graphics rather than text, or something. I quickly gave up and can't describe it better. I ended up recreating my elements for the library, which wasn't as hard as I'd expected.

(On reflection, you probably can't use those old fonts today; they are probably type 1 fonts, which Photoshop no longer uses, and InDesign will stop very soon). You can however use them if they are TrueType.

Yes, common math symbols like multiplcation X and the division sign are often included on basic text fonts. But not always, and not a complete set of math symbols.
To help with finding glyphs in the future, here's what we teach in our accessibility classes:
1. Find the glyph's Unicode codepoint.
This is the unique number that designates every letter, punctuation mark, symbol, emoji, etc. across all languages. Unicode is developed and maintained by the Unicode organization and you can find their charts of all 65,000 glyphs at https://www.unicode.org/charts/
We also have a handy Unicode chart for sale at our online bookstore, www.pubcom.com/books but it's not free like Unicode.org's charts. Our chart narrows the selection down to 100 of the most frequently used glyphs for math, bullets, punctuation, symbols, and dingbats.
You can also scroll endlessly through a glyph chart in InDesign, Word, Windows Character, and Apple's Character panels and eventually find the same codepoints. Examples of Unicode codepoints:
2715 = Multiplication X
2716 = Heavy Multiplication X
00D7 = Multiplication Sign x
2215 = Division slash /
00F7 = Division sign
2212 = Minus sign
2. Locate the codepoint/glyph in InDesign's Glyph Panel.
Select the font you want to use.
Type the codepoint into the search field.
3. If that glyph is on that font, it will appear at the top of the matrix.
If that glyph is not on that font, the matrix will be blank. Choose a different font to check if the glyph is available on it.
4. Insert the glyph into your InDesign layout.
Hope this makes it easier and less painful to get the glyph you need.
And thank you for being concerned about accessibility and glyphs. Not too many designers know about this so you're ahead of the pack! Keep going.

I would prefer to shoot as jpegs in my camera but it suddenly started producing raw images of its own accord.
What is the extension on your images? Are you shooting .jpegs that are opening in Adobe Camera Raw or are you shooting .cr2s from your camera? This sentence sounds like a setting on your camera got changed to shoot cr2s, and if that's what happened then you need to change a setting on your camera.
Can you clarify for us?
"What does ACR mean"
ACR is an acronym for Adobe Camera Raw.

Basic MS Word macros are easy to make. Go to YouTube and search for the topic.
Since Office apps handle bold and italic differently than Adobe apps, you want to search for text that is BoldItalic first, then for Bold and Italic separately.
15-20 minutes of research can save you hours of time later on--plus it will work for all your authors.

Hi there,
Glad to hear that your issue is resolved now. This generally happens when the third-party application is interfering with InDesign. In that case, you may try running the app in Safe Mode and launch InDesign only. Then, open other applications one by one, which were opened before to find the culprit app or process with the help of the Activity monitor. In Safe Mode, your system starts to perform certain checks and prevent third-party software/ services from automatically loading or opening.
Please feel free to reach out if you run into any other questions or issues in the future. We'd be happy to help.
Regards,
Anshul Saini

>> I am using four of the 30 plus Garamond Premier Pro fonts in an Indesign document.
No, you are not. You have more than 4 if open your package on another PC. Do you have another PC for do an experiment by yourself?
See my previous post about find/replace fonts. Do start from the scratch - copy package to another (not your PC), deactivate all garamond premium (and other garamond too) through creative cloud app and through system fonts and through suitcase fusion, disable Adobe fonts and open your package with "missing fonts feature", press skip, then activate only four needed fonts and do replacing all the instances of no needed fonts.
P.S. As you see in the previous post I don't have many Garamond Premium and deactivating in CC-app works. For more right experiment we are need here someone wiht OSX who's will do the same. May be this is some Apple+Adobe bug on your side. On my Win10 it all fine after find-replace of all fonts that you have in publication, but don't want to use it.
P.P.S. Use it trick with preview only favorite fonts (starred) as I show you early and forget about your annoying.

Unfortunatelly exactly this is no filter option.
Would make a superb feature request at InDesign UserVoice:

Unfortunately it is a series of obscure fonts that Apple in its finite wisdom has put into the system, so it can't be deactivated. I'm still curious about how to scan down the list of fonts in Creative Cloud when there's no visible scroll bar.
