I don't know if you'll consider this 'easy', but this is one way you could do it in Illustrator.
Type your text and fill it with black (or whichever fill color you want).
Select the text with the Selection tool.
In the Appearance panel, choose the same fill color you chose before.
In the Appearance panel flyout menu, choose Add New Stroke. Choose a stroke color and weight.
In the Appearance panel, click to highlight the stroke.
Click the 'fx' button at the bottom of the panel and choose Distort & Transform > Transform.
In the Transform dialog box, drag the Horizontal Move slider to offset the stroke.
To avoid having to repeat these steps, select the text with the Selection tool, and drag it into the Graphic Styles panel to create a new graphic style.
Whenever you want to repeat the style, simply select the text you want to apply the style to with the Selection tool and click on the style in the Graphic Styles panel.
