[Jongware] correctly spelled I think this is important. In order to simulate the layout you need text that interacts correctly with the spelling and imposition. In German we have lots of long words, so especially Lorem Ipsum doesn't make too much sense.

You could use Object > path > Offset path If you need trapping of different colors, see the menu in the pathfinder-palette. But you should talk to the printing people about trapping before you apply it.

Don't forget that Illustrator can only calculate this based on the dimensions of the bounding box. This hasn't too much to do with the optical alignment the takes into account space that derives from the objects' individual form. If there's lot of white space on one side of an object, it will look as if the space is not evenly distributed although from the math perspective it is.

Documents and their sizes are somewhat different in Photoshop and Illustrator. Illy has one big document, art boards only define areas that will be printed. You can't define a background color in Illy. If you want to have something black, you'll have to create an object with a black fill. Toggle between screen modes in Illy by hitting F

It's not possible to change stroke weight the way you want. You can : - assign uniform strokes and change their weight with the script - draw brush strokes (calligraphy) change with pressure - change stroke weight after drawing with the width tool in CS5 - change stroke weight of some tools before drawing by using keystrokes (e.g. blob brush)

The eraser won't work on JPEGs at all. After Live painting expand the art and then you should be able to erase.

Wade, I don't think I misunderstood the question. Using a compound path you're able to draw inside them all at the same time, but you will get into trouble when you want to rearrange some of the grapes (together with their "content") later. This is the reason why I was hesitating to advise it.

Don't know why, but in the case of text objects it's not sufficient to just select them all and drag the gradient tool over them. That is, it will work for two text objects, but not for the third. So you have to make a compound shape or group them.

It works, if you combine the text objects in a compound shape using the pathfinder panel (form mode buttons) Then the usual steps: create new fill via appearance panel and apply the gradient.

The color picker will work as expected with embedded pixel images. You can't expect the color picker to work the same as in Photoshop when the image is just linked.

I guess you used a calligraphy brush. The width tool only works with nromal strokes, art brushes and pattern brushes.
