People have to realize that with technology comes risks. It'a lot like the heartbreaking stories of people losing their precious images because they simply didn't back up those images (and then made a backup of those images). People shouldn't do mission-critical work on new tech, ever, full stop, especially if it's their livelihood, no matter what the promises made by someone like Apple or Microsoft. That's the best piece advice I could give. I would never, for example, tell people to upgrade to Windows 10 on its initial release for mission-critical work based on what I've seen, reported and experienced, at least not at first. (Maybe now, but even that's a maybe. I know it's much better now that it was just a couple of months ago.) And if you must? Either install on another partition or install it on a non-critical system. The rest of the apps like Illustator and Indesign CC 2015 work perfectly well. No lags, perfect smoothness and responsiveness. Yarp. Guitar (both electric and classical) is my main instrument. My skills on the other instruments are somewhat rudimentary (except maybe bass guitar...which is really just a lower-scaled guitar with its upper two strings missing).  Got hooked on guitar early in high school, classical especially. Led me eventually to digital audio workstations in the late 90's/early 2000's. (Cakewalk for DOS, anyone?) It's amazing what's available today for the musician looking to record on his/her computer. What costs about $200 (or even less) now would have costed thousands years ago just to achieve the same end. I kind of laugh when I think about the 4-track tape recorder my friend bought back in the 80's. Think it was one of those Portastudios that TASCAM made. I actually (and eventually) rolled around to Photoshop via my old job as an independent Web designer. Where Photoshop is concerned: RAM, RAM, and more RAM. That'll be your benchmark. A two-year-old system would be fine as long as it was bleeding edge when it was first released. The D700 had support all the way back to Camera Raw version 4.6 and Lightroom 2.1. There should be no need to use the DNG Converter in your case. Photoshop CS6 uses Camera Raw to open supported RAWs. If you go to Help > About Plug-In > Camera Raw on the menu bar, what version does it say it is? Go to Help > Updates to update Photoshop. Referring to the DNG Converter itself, no, it's not automatic; you'd have to convert your RAWs to DNGs first by pointing it to a folder containing the RAWs. Odd. Are you using an NLE? Most NLEs (nonlinear editors) should accept animated GIFs and play them properly, where you can then convert it into a proper video file. (Mine does anyway.) Photoshop can do this too, but it's nowhere near as functional as, say, a true NLE like Premiere (as you've found out). ... View more
