In the extreme lower left corner of the interface there are three small icons. These control the visibility of certain sections of timeline controls - layer switches, blending modes, and duration / stretch.
I suspect they are all gray. Click the left or middle icon to make it blue (on).

You have a 180 degree fisheye image. For a lot of uses you want an equirectangular image. If you Google those terms you'll find some stuff I've no doubt. You might be able to find some free software to convert one to the other, or not. EDIT: Take a look in the Effects > Immersive Video section.
You'll find you need good quality, high resolution footage for any of this 3D environment stuff because your '16:9 view' will just be a very small portion of the 'inside of a sphere' on which your original image is projected.

OK, so you've just had your first couple of driving lessons this week.

Sorry. There is no easy button. But to point you in one possible direction, I would look at the card wipe effect driven by a fractal noise layer. You'll probably also need some directional or motion blur.
On the After Effects menu bar you'll find the Help menu. In that you'll see 'Effects Reference'. All the effects and their properties are described in there, Card Wipe is under Transition effects IIRC. That's an excellent reference.

Select the camera layer and hit the "U" key twice in quick succession. This will show all keyframes and non default properties for that layer. Then take and upload a full size screen shot of your composition window and the opened timelayer layer.

Just so you understand: To make any edits you will need both the After Effects project file - that's the .aep file AND and source material that was used as assets within that. For example: The final video might be a combination of original footage, images, audio, graphics and other material. Those items are not stored (embedded) within the .aep, but are linked external files. You will need both the .aep and the source files to edit the project and output a new final .mp4 video.
The only exception to this is that certain .aep files might just be constructed from elements that can be created totally within Ater Effects intself. A simple text animation is one example. In those cases there might be no external source material involved, but that is the exception, not the general situation.

You're doing this incorrectly.
When you've imported your file 'As Composition - retain layer sizes' you'll see, in the project panel, your photohop file, in a folder, and an existing pre-built composition. Double click that composition to open it. Do not drag that into the timeline.
In the composition you've just opened, twirl down the layer. Do you see an effects section? Twirl that open.

Couple of final things you might want to try:
1. "RAM reserved for other applications". It sounds unintuitive, but try this just a little higher - 3GB. It might be your OS is stuggling for memory.
and...
2. Close down and then reopen Ae - and then import your old project into the new project. Save it immediately under a new name.

1. How many layers in your project? How many video layers? Many effects?
2. Make sure you don't have any other applications open.
3. After Effects > Preferences > Memory... Installed RAM = 8. What is the setting for "RAM reserved for other applications"?

OK. 8GB is below minimum system requirements, so that is an issue. See:

Anyway, try: MENU: After Effects > Preferences > Media and Disk Cache. Click buttons for 'Empty Disk cache' and 'Clean database and cache'.

totally depends on how much cache you're holding, system specs etc - but just a couple of minutes? You should et a dialouge box / progress bar - so it sounds like a crash.

Well, the first thing to note is that your playhead in that screenshot is at a time (23 sec.) that doesn't have any layer content - unless you have layers further down the timeline. If you move the playhead to 12 sec - do you see anything?
I also notice you have a 1080 x 1080 comp - but you're only seeing roughly the top half of it. Set the magnification menu in the lower left corner of the composition window to: "Fit up to 100%". Does that help?

I don't think you've got a hope of combining the two like that. It would be extremely difficult even for an experienced Ae Pro. It's very likely that a lot of those expressions will refer to other layers and other elements within the code, so as soon as you start cutting out layers to replace them with others the code will break.

Yes - I understand that. I can see a lot of these expressions are driven by sliders whch you'll see in the effects control panel. Just check you've not switched off or deleted or changed somrthing there.

Hi Sean, Having seen those screenshots, I'm sorry to say I think you'll have to got back to the template author on this, or revert back to your previously saved version. A template like this has got a mass of code (Ae expressions) and other complexities that make it virtually impossible to reverse engineer remotely. Sorry I can't offer anything better.

OK. Select that text layer that is not showing up. Hit the U key twice in quick succession - ie "UU". This will reveal all keyframed and non-default properties. Take a screenshot that shows all the opened properties of that layer - and includes any keyframes in the main part of the timeline. Upload that at full screenshot size so we can examine it.

OK - there are a few options here - none are ideal, but they might get the job done:
The first, and by far the easiest, is Layer Styles.
1. Remove the stroke from your shape layer.
2. With your shape layer selected: Menu: Layer > Layer Styles > Stroke. Twirl down the layer in the timeline to see and adjust the properties for that.
Hopefully this will do the job for you - if not just post again and I'll point you in the direction of some other options.

It depends what you are doing - there are many 'stroke' effects in Ae.
Is this a stroke effect on a path?
A stroke (outline) around a layer boundary?
A stroke on a shape layer object?

In this situation all you need to do is:
Set an initial kf at 0 degrees for the start of your rotation. Set a final kf at 'n' rotations for the end of your rotation. Select both kf's and apply easy ease. Open up the graph editor. The second icon from the left at the bottom is a pop up menu. Make sure "Auto select graph type" is selected. This should show the 'value graph' in this case. Click the last keyframe and drag the yellow handle out further to the left to create a more biased 's' shaped curve.

TBH I'm finding your description a little difficult to follow - but there are a few important things to know that should solve your problem:
1. It looks like your Composition is set to operate with the Cinema 4D renderer. See: Composition > Composition settings > 3D renderer tab. Track mattes are not supported by this renderer.
To work around this: take your 3D layer - I guess your 50 Text layer - with any camera and lights, and pre-compose them. Then make the downstream comp a 'Classic 3D' composition. You can then make your track matte in this downstream Comp.
2. The 'cutter' of the track matte assembly needs to be the top layer of the two. You select the matte using the TrkMat menu on the layer immediately below.
