Charlie was an insurance executive who felt called to be one of the first Deacons of the Roman Catholic Church, after Vatican II opened the doors to such an Office for a married man.We helped Charlie to learn everything from Windows basics to doing online research, and even installing new printer cartridges, so he could print his homilies.This caused us to ponder how many of us can reach out to others and help them with things which we see as small, but to those who really need our help, those small things are a lifeline which determines if their life callings are achieved or not.In the decades we knew Charlie, he endured, and battled back from, a few cerebral strokes, so, our outreach required an understanding on what communicated the best to him, at times

I had what i found to be an interesting conversation today, concerning how useful the internet and digital media is for e-commerce, and how most of it would not be justified if it had to put a case for its existence and usability, beyond earning someone a living, (most often the creator) and how much of it is a complete waste of time.Now this was not a conversation about the rights of free speech, or about stifling freedoms of any kind, but about the real usefulness of all that is available via the internet, be it web sites, videos, educational material or ebooks, and just how useful or useless most of it is, about how easy it is to use, find products, its entertainment value, or even about finding real information.Before anyone says anything about it helping people with disabilities, or the elderly, as a member of both groups i can honestly say, "it fails miserably ", on both counts.As someone who develops for the web and has a reasonable understanding of how to use it, even i had to

I have a twelve year old son (an afterthought--his brothers and sisters are in their early 30s) who's into science.Today he came to me with an idea for an experiment.  He's built a sort of sling shot device that involved a bottle top and part of a balloon and has been shooting those hard silver balls you can use to decorate cakes.  He gets enough power that he can penetrate a pop can.Anyway, he wanted to know how fast he was shooting in feet per second and worked out that if used a couple of mics recording him firing at a target over a known distance, we could calculate the velocity.So, a couple of mics and a six foot range and over 4 shots we got a variance between 172 and 222 feet per second...I'd call it an average of 200fps.  I wouldn't want to be hit!I certainly proved useful to be able to zoom in to ten thousandths of a second on Audition though.  Frankly, I'm more proud that he worked out the method and did the maths than I am with the shooter thingie!

We frequent the dining areas of WiFi hotspots and meet many new friends including other creative souls working on big projects.Yesterday, we stopped to chat with three residential landscape architects who do beautiful work with technical pencils and rolls of tracing paper. We had to ask if they scan their drawings to drop into an Adobe or Autodesk app. After a few seconds of blank stares one woman said, “We’ve never heard of Adobe.”What’s to be learned from that experience?First, we don’t want to say, “We’re smart—they’re not.” After all, we entered the digital world before the Mac or Windows existed. Yet, we still love pens and paper, too.Next, could we collaborate with people all over the world if we never went digital?Our world would be a much smaller space, one we can’t imagine. But, that doesn’t stop us from celebrating the analog creative expressions of others.

I was able to attend the Adobe Customer Experience Forum in Düsseldorf last week and truly enjoyed it.I was able to stay for the first half of the day, as I had other errands I had take care of.  However, learning more about the Marketing Cloud and user experience is always intriguing. Thomas Renk hosted the event and brought a large team from Adobe!  I was able to hear the first three speakers.  The two that I was most impressed by were Axel Schäfer and Michael Klein. If you have not learned about the Marketing Cloud then I highly recommend it!

Do Adobe product-oriented User Groups in various localities around the world still exist?On a whim, I decided to look them up, only for the Adobe site to show the worldwide directory of User Groups for no more than a split second before diverting my web browser to the Adobe home page. Does this mean Adobe has shut them down?Just wondering.

Hi, I'm looking to try then buy an animation Text programme. There are soooo many on the market. However, they appear to focus mainly on the animation side of things.What I'm trying to create is a training presentation where the text flows. (As though being written) But also goes bold, italic, enlarge or even highlight certain words or phrases, in sync with the spoken word. A character may need to appear (As though explaining) Would Animate be able to complete such a task? Or is Animate waaaay beyond that? (Which I fear)Regards Mark

Since this is an international forum I'm wondering about the world wide penetration of 4K Super HD delivery in various regions.  Down here in Aus, the only source is some Netflix programming--and even there only for those like me lucky enough to have high speed fibre internet.  However, I notice when I watch coverage of GP Formula 1 racing, that Sky in the UK (we see their feed) is pushing it hard.  If you don't have access now, do you have an info on future plans from the programme distributors in your area?More abstract, what are your thoughts on 360 degree VR?  I know a few fairly experimental films are trying this out but (speaking personally) think this must be a limited market--how many films could you really watch in the "first person"?
