I had been under the impression that most modern Adobe OpenType fonts had support for glyphs like α (U+03B1, GREEK SMALL LETTER ALPHA) and ā (U+0101, LATIN SMALL LETTER A WITH MACRON), and that the few cases I had found were mostly outliers. Today I became aware that I was mostly wrong, and would appreciate it if someone could explain what the situation really is; I was surprised to learn how wrong I was. Most of my thinking is in the context of machines running Mac OS X with Font Folio 11 installed/available, if that's pertinent.Miguel clarified a while ago that the macron characters were "only supported in font families with the suffix Pro, such as Minion Pro." I had missed it when he said it, or I guess internalized it wrongly. So I guess that means the macron characters are mostly available in the 24 Pro faces: Adobe Caslon Pro, Adobe Garamond Pro, Adobe Jenson Pro, Arno Pro, Bickham Script Pro, Brioso Pro, Caflisch Script Pro, Calcite Pro, Chaparral Pro, Cronos Pro, Ex Ponto
Hi,I want to order Helvetica Neue Fonts but I am confused about the difference between, Helvetica Neue 55 Roman and Helvetica Neue Roman?I am not sure if they are the same!I would really appriciate any help on this.Thank you,Palak A. K.
I have several type 1 postscript fonts (purchased from Adobe in 1999) on my pc and want to install them on my mac OSX 10.6.7. I brought one font onto the mac desktop and the file extension automatically switched from .pfm to .pfb (which I assume is what I want to happen?). However, the font will not install: Font Book does not recognize Type 1 fonts. What do I do? All help appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Forum I hope this is the right forum, but here goes. I receive documents from different sources, mainly word document using TT font, all of the documents contain different kinds of extended glyphs like cyrillic chars. I want all documents to use an Opentype font instead (Helvetica Neue LT Pro), but it seems that selecting all text and change font will fail, likely because mapping of the glyphs are different from TT to Opentype. So is there a workaround or am I missing the obvious? Kind regards Lars
Curious if anyone would offer some suggestions. I'm trying to redesign a magazine about helicopters. 🙂 I think the fonts look dated -- most of the body copy is in Dutch 801 with headlines in Futura. Doesn't really have a sleek look to it. Thoughts on good font choices? I was thinking sans-serif for the text and have been toying around with some different combinations. I need easy-to-read and gravitated toward Helvetica, but that's probably not interesting enough. Any suggestions for some fonts I should experiment with? I have the Adobe collection so could work with most any of those.Just wondering if the topic sparks any ideas for anyone while I dig through a book of font combos. I always have a hard time picking out fonts. Thanks, Phyllis
I have a new 64 bit Windows 7 desktop running CS5 Design Premium. I also have the same system/software on my Sony vaio laptop. When I try to edit photoshop cs5 files on my desktop that I created on my laptop, I get a "some text layers contain fonts that are missing. etc... " However, the fonts are not missing in my font folder c:windows/fonts. I try deleting and reinstalling, and it tells me they are already loaded. Also, it is a common font- arial narrow bold. I am the administrator. Suggestions?

Hi guys,I'm wondering if it's still at all possible to purchase Truetype (TTF) fonts from Adobe?I understand the differenced between TTF and OTF, but due to technical restraints we're requiring a TTF version.I've had a look at various font conversion tools, but while they do the job, I get the feeling an official TTF from Adobe would be much better. So basically, does anyone know if I can buy the older TTF fonts? The typeface I'm after in particular is 'Myriad Pro SemiCondensed'.Any help very much appreciated, thanks in advance.

I need to produce the art for a set of computer keyboard keys. Am I on the right track?
I have a font called SBF_D004 that has been supplied with a file, when used in InDesign CS3 and earlier it displays and prints fine, but when used in CS5 InDesign or Illustrator it does not display or print. In the font drop down boxes of both applications it fails to show a "sample" of the font also.Has anyone seen this before?
I am trying to recreate a effect in illustrator so a font looks like wood that was carved with a router. the demo cnc app i used was able to do a rendering but i cant seem to find a way to recreate it without hand drawing each letter
So I'm a little confused about the options available on the Adobe store for purchasing Utopia Std packages. There is Utopia Std and Utopia Std Opticals.Clearly, the Opticals version has more fonts (25 vs. 6). But is that the only difference? Does "Optical" refer to the abundance of weight options, or to more/better kerning pairs in the font? This section of the Utopia article on Wikipedia is pretty damning about the metrics used in Utopia.Irrespective of my question about the packages: do you guys agree with the sentiment on Wikipedia about the font having poor metrics? How necessary do you guys believe it is to use Optical kerning (instead of Metrics) in InDesign for a sea of 9pt Regular body text?

If I create .pdf and .swf files with embedded fonts that were supplied with one of Adobe products, lets say I'll use 'MinionPro-Regular', 'MyriadPro-Semibold' and 'NewsGothicStd-Oblique', and if I then publish such a file on-line, do I need a special web embedding licence for these fonts, or does 'editable (embedding)' also cover such use of fonts? Is there any difference between publishing files for commercial and non-commercial purposes? TIA.
I'd like to buy the 'ITC Stone Sans' family together with 'ITC Stone Phonetic Std', but first I need to find out what the font metrics are. From what I've heard, the phonetic font has different metrics from the rest of the family, which makes line gaps in Word or in Flash totally uneven. Obviously, if that's the case, I wouldn't be able to use this font family, since what I really need is a font with the IPA range, or, if unavailable (as is the case here) and split into 2 fonts, then fonts with matching metrics. I couldn't for the life of me find a way to contact Adobe Support directly and enquire about font features prior to placing my order. I'd be grateful if anyone could answer my question. TIA.
I love oldstyle numerals and have started using them in my design work. What I'm wondering is: If I have a heading or subheading or something that includes numbers, should I switch to lining figures for those? I've heard lining figures are sort of the equivalent of capital letters (while the oldstyle ones are the equivalent of lower-case). But I'm not sure I should mix them. What's the usual practice for that? Thanks, Phyllis
I have been corresponding with Hoefler Frere about customizing the standard character set for Whitney. Whitney has a default character set and an alternate set. We want to have some of the alternate characters to replace their default characters in the main set, and are told that choosing an alternate character can only be done manually, one at a time, through the glyphs palatte in InDesign/Illustrator. We are buying Whitney for use in a very large organization after months of study as to the right typeface for the job, and have found Whitney has just the right characteristics, so long as the alternate 'R' is used in place of the standard 'R', and the alternate 'K' is used in place of the standard 'K', as well as a few other replacements. We want some of the alternate characters to be used entirely in place of the default characters at all times. In other words, we want this font to be carefully controlled without the option of somebody choosing, for example, which 'R' they want to us
Hey everyone!I am new here and from what i see this is a great forum! Hopefully along time ahead for me here!I am normally pretty good with fonts, but this one has me stumped. I was asked by a client to reproduce his logo as he lost his original high res file ( i know haha). Seeing as this was going to be an easy task I took the job. This font has caused me hours of stress... If any of you have seen it around I would greatly appreciate the name. I have tried whatthefont and every other font resource. Here is the link:http://images.clubzone.com/company/images/14195.jpgThanks in advance guys!!Tayler
If the designer of a GUI for an embedded industrial product uses an Adobe font (like Helvetica Neue) for display of numeric information, can the manufacturer of the GUI include static, bitmapped images of numerals from the font in the embedded software, thereby negating the need for the font file, and thus negating the need for an OEM/embedded license for the product? To put it another way:Licensing the font software itself is almost certainly cost prohibitive for this kind of application. Because only a few characters are needed, can licensing costs be avoided by including those characters as bitmapped files (created in Photoshop with a licensed copy of the font) instead of the original font software?Thank you for any help.
I'd like to add more fonts to my font library. Are they hard to install? I haven't tried that yet.Thank you
Has anyone used FontXchange or Trans Type Pro for converting pc fonts to open type fonts? Are there issues with special characters and glyphs? I need to purchase one of these and was wanting to get some feedback on which works the best. I know they can both do this but was wondering if people preferred one over the other and why. Thanks in advance for any tips you can provide.-Kristie
