Thanks. I have researched the Lightroom Classic specs for an hour now..... It seems to me the minimum is 2 GB of memory. It is working fine with Lightroom Classic 11.3 and the processor shows set to "auto" and says it supports basic hardware acceleration. I am just trying to figure out if I upgrade Lightroom if it will behave the same. I plan to upgrade my video card but as I use Lighroom a lot, I don't want to paint myself into a corner where I can't run it before I buy a new one. Probably best to wait.... Thanks, BJBBJB1

I am very PC literate but admit it has been a while since I updated my Adobe apps 🙂 I just updated Photoshop and found out my RTX660 (a VERY old card) is not compatible with Photoshop. I have read up and understand that, no issue. But in the interim before I replace it what Photoshop settings should I choose? It seems to have still checked "use graphics processor" and has Anti-alias guides and GPU compositing checked. It does not have Use open CL and 30 bit display checked. Is that the appropriate setting for now? Also, I am on an old version of LIghtroom also. I use that a LOT.....does that mirror the Photoshop video card requirements, issues? I have been and will check but was not clear to me and want to be sure. If I will have the same issue in Lightroom, I may wait to upgrade that.... Thanks! BJBBJB1

It's unlikely LR Classic will ever have AI search built-in. When Adobe announced the LR Cloud ecosystem (LR Classic 7), they stated they would be focusing their efforts on LR Classic on Develop and image quality. They've kept to their word, making at most modest changes to Library and the other modules in the years since. You could sync your photos with LR Classic catalog with LR Cloud and do your AI searches there. Or you could use a plugin such as Any Vision or Excire. By @John R Ellis Thanks for your reply. That is unfortunate. I have all the mobile toys, phone and tablet, but for serious editing I still use my pc. I have looked into both of these before but did not take the plunge for various reasons. With Excire my concern is it populates your tags to facilitate searches. I do have many of my 70k of images tagged with the basics and would not want to lose that searchable method if overloads my tags. I always thought Any Vision the Google-based solution looked too expensive. But now I see it is priced per SEARCH? So 1,000 free searches a month. I am am a long-time Classic user and enthusiast. And I do use collections and tagging but find the AI-assisted image search in my Samsung Galaxy phone with Gallery app and Google Photo backup of my phone images to be incredibly convenient and accurate. Subjects, colors,faces, you name it with no tagging. I know Google photo AI is server-based but my phone does it on local images. Now with Adobe using Firefly in PS, could LRC finally catch up? I find myself searching for something on Google photos or samsung galaxy gallery, finding the filename or date, then going to LRC to find the image. I am hoping to hear this is in beta or something....have not been plugged into tall the latest developments with their AI. I see no reason why our high end paid for editing program should not have the same search capabilities my free phone Gallery app has. Thanks! BJBBJB1

I really tried to decipher this from posts and the Adobe FAQ. However I am still not sure. I had finally gotten used to decoding the old creative cloud update menu, looking at "other versions" deciphering what number was really a "new version" and not an update of an old version I am keeping for compatibility purposes and did NOT want to update. Now I am presented with the new (for me) interface. Can you please confirm the following. Under "updates", even though I do not have any "cloud based" versions of photoshop or premiere pro....or anything installed on this window computer, it presents them and I believe the made the colors different (I guess I need to memorize the colors) and if you look real close, there are rounded corners. Do I have this correct? Further, if all I want is the most current version of Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Lightroom classic (not updates to old versions I have installed) what do I click on? For example Premiere Pro (dark purple/blue with round corners) version 14.2 says "update available". I am running the desktop version of square icon old school color light purple Premiere Pro version 14. Is this the update for that? It is also presenting an update to my old versions of Premiere Pro version 13 which I understand. Photoshop shows version V21.2 on the update page and at least that says "new release" so I think that is what I want for Photoshop. HOwever on the all apps page, Photoshop just says "update available" with no version number. No idea if that is for the newest version or an old version I have out there. Why can't Adobe just say "here is the most recent versions of the desktop programs you have installed. Ignore these, they do not apply". BJBBJB1

That was not it. I still get the same error today. Will have to go through that whole process again unless there are any other suggestions. The document is "Creative Cloud desktopp app won't open - Progress wheel keeps spinning". So it is a well enough known problem there is a whole document for the user to use to solve the issue..... As usual, every time I try to update my Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, I have issues. Last time was two months ago, that is about the norm as I refuse to try to update any of the modules while in the middle of a project. I posted earlier in this thread and was hopeful the helpful folks here could tell me if I need to go through using the same cleaner program and reinstall of creative cloud as last time, and the time before that.... as I get a different error this time. I get a notification that says Creative cloud needs to be updated in my windows bottom right notification area, I click on that and then I get a white screen with the spinning blue circle. That's new for me but apparently not a new thing for others as it takes you to a help screen that again takes me down the same uninstall and clean and reinstall path. Does this work? Is there another method? I have no idea why updates continue to be an issue for a monthly-fee program..... I used to run with auto updates to the creative cloud app turned off, and I had update problems. In March after my last uninstall, clean, reinstall routine I turned it on, and now I have a different update issue. PC is a powerful, well maintained Windows 10 machine, latest Windows updates that everything else runs great on. And here I thought I was going to be updating Lightroom and trying out new features....but no. 🙂 Thanks again for the help, BJBBJB1

Thanks for the tip. Out of all the programs I utilize at home and in business, this is the only one where almost every time I try to update it turns into a two hour install/uninstall snafu. I also got error code 198 and it still takes you to a web page where error code 198 is not listed! And these posts are from July and it is March.... Mine stops at 19%, perhaps we could start a pool on the percent it stops at? 🙂 I will have to set aside a few hours some weekend and sort this out. Thanks for the link....very familiar with that DOS cleaner app from prior battles with CC. Also deleting folders, files, etc. This is why I only update every so often, can't deal with this every week/month. Every time I read about new features in LR, PS, or PPro which gets me excited, it is offset with the knowledge that I have a few hours (or more) ahead of me of hassle in screenshoting settings, and battling CC update. If there has been any additional information on this error and how to get around it since then I would appreciate it. This forum is always very helpful. It sounds like maybe the apps still update even though the cloud app gets this error? Didn't want to go update any unless I knew for sure. Thanks, BJBBJB1

I try to research and figure things out but I cannot find a definitive answer for the life of me. I am runnin GTX660 on driver 417.71 from January 2019, There is no Studio driver for this card, just a game ready driver version 441.66. I assume that is because the card is getting a bit long in the tooth? I am running Lightroom version 8.2.1. Running Windows 10 1809 build so meet that requirement. My question is this. I currently do not use Cuda acceleration as I had issues in the past. My video card supports Directx12 per the Nvidia spec page. The point is, everything currently works....ith the change in Cuda acceleration requirements, if I upgrade my Nvidia driver and Lightroom, might Cuda work? And if not, is there any advantage to upgrading my driver before updating Lightroom classic? Thanks, BJBBJB1

Glad it helped! I was just looking at updates for my Maximus VIII Hero board. So even the most recent Sonic Studio in combination with the most recent PPro version still does this? Ironically I tried to start Premiere Pro yesterday and it would not start so I was just looking at an "update night" for all my adobe programs! Hopefully the most recent updates solve this and my AME rendering issues from my last flurry of projects. BJBBJB1

Kevin, This was quite a while ago.... I completed my renders by not doing anything on the PC until they were complete. I tried to follow two links and got nowhere. If this is a known issue from a few months ago, what am I supposed to update? I certainly hope this is fixed by now? I used to have this issue with my old pinnacle products a decade ago, but never used to have with AME. If a known issue is there a known workaround? Is this fixed in a recentnpatch? BJBBJB1

Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it! Thought I would report back. I finally finished my projects and was able to try this. It did work, although here was the process: Ran the cleaner Ran the desktop CC installer It installed to 100%, yeah! Then said "Error enabling sync" Then, it immediately started updating again! Oh Oh.... That got to 99% (after re-starting at 67% twice), my desktop icons disappeared, background was black for like 30 seconds, and whew....it finished. So I am now updated. Under the file tab it says I need to rename a folder in order to enable sync. I don't think I use sync for anything and if it is not broke, my PC rule is don't fix it but I am curious what this is all about. And if it needed to rename a folder why didn't it do it or why doesn't it use the old folder name? Again...not an elegant update process. Out of all of my business and personal windows programs which are wide and varied, none have the drama or issues that the adobe updater does...I wish that all of these fixes, and workarounds could be build into the installer/updater so users did not have to jump through these hoops. I realize everyone does not have issues, by my non-scientific sample of heavy Adobe users I know, 50% seem to. Thanks, BJBBJB

Thanks for that. Yes I used Studio to burn ISO's and also to burn discs. I also used Encore to burn ISO's and then it had an option to burn discs. Interesting on the VOB's. I read in one place it works, and in another that it does not. Glad it worked for you! For sure there are differences in the SD vs. HD file format which I think handbrake interprets. Thanks again. I know there are several threads on this topic that I have read but I have done a lot of transcoding of my material so have that basic knowledge. However I have a specific question that hopefully has an easy answer. I am not trying to re-create the wheel of the other posts and as always look forward to the great help on this forum. First, these are just 2 or 3 projects I made on either a prior software package (Studio) or early Pr Pro/Encore. This was before I archived projects so I can't just bring them up in either software program. Besides, they are old, would probably not work. My archive was my ISO! I have the ISO files, the discs, and an MKV I subsequently made that plays fine on streamers, etc. with great quality. I have a need I did not think I would have and that is to extract a few clips from these discs/files to insert in a new project. I also have the raw footage buried somewhere as backup but would be nice to include all the nice production on the discs for the few snippets I need. The original footage is probably AVI, DV, or Widescreen DV for SD and HDV for HD but not sure that is relevant as they were made into discs. I understand I can run handbrake on the .MKV (which I believe is an uncompressed re-container of my disc file) and generate a file Pr Pro can ingest. My question is this. To eliminate transcoding, what settings do I choose? I think I used MPEG-2 in early days with Encore but have no idea with Studio other than they were SD DVD's and Blu-Rays that played in standard players. I guess one clue is it would be pre- H.264 for sure. I cannot find something that will give me an uncompressed ingestable format direct from the discs so that is why I am focused on the .MKV. I really just want a format that Pr Pro can ingest with the least possible degradation. Of course the DVD and Blu-Ray is already compressed, but I mean keeping it at that compressed level. To make this happen it appears the best thing to do is to use Handbrake choose the codec that is in the .MKV container but determining that, and the proper settings to make Premiere Pro happen to ingest has been problematic. But I did not try step 2 on that document, the uninstall and re-install of the could app. I just tried repair, then it had me download and try to install the new one (without uninstalling the old one). Greetings. I am a long-time AME and Prem Pro user and I have never, ever had encoding failures. On slow computers, fast computers, SD, HD, 4K. Never. Maybe I have been lucky? Anyway, working on several projects now and only queuing up 1 or 2 renders at a time. And I usually don't do any heavy Premiere Pro work while rendering, but I might do something in there or in another program. Now, it appears if I breath on the computer I get a failure. In fact overnight I got one which I would have never expected as the computer was doing nothing else. I can reset and re-render and it has worked but it is concerning. These were 2 totally different projects, different media, etc. What if the next time I can't get it to render at all? I do use CUDA acceleration and of course if it continues, I know I can turn it off. I am using and i7-based windows 10 machine. I am just wondering if there is something else "new" going on here with AME? I know I have not run a project through AME for a few months. I believe I am on the most recent AME as of a month or so ago, but I have gotten an error during a forced update of my Adobe Cloud app (another subject) so I cannot currently update AME if I wanted to if there is a very new version. Besides, at least it works and I need to get several projects done this week. I will try to get the Adobe cloud app working after that. Went through the same hassle about a year ago. Anyway, if I get the error again or can't get it to go away, just turn off CUDA acceleration and deal with the longer render times? Thanks for any insight. BJBBJB1

Bani, It is around 10 months since my last creative cloud update fiasco and that thread appears to have split into 3 threads. Thanks for your help last time but....here I go again. My PrPro was a different version than audition. I tried to update creative cloud....of course needed an update. Why does a program that just installs other programs need so many updates? Anyway this time it downloaded, and it installed to 100% then nothing. No update window, just my usual desktop, although install process was just using CPU cycles. And it would not start. I rebooted, nothing. Then a repair option came up, and I got the same error 50. It said download a new installer directly and I did. Same error 50. I stopped when it seemed like I was going down the same hole as last year. I cannot believe almost a year later it is doing the same thing. Is there any new fix or do I have to go through uninstalling, reinstalling, deleting folders, files, etc? I need to get several Pr Pro projects done so I am going to get those done first as I cannot trust my suite will work if I mess with this before then. I sur how it does not get mad and stop working since Cr Cloud can't call home to check licensing. Any suggestions welcome. Do not want to rant but this installer should really by bulletproof. Have no issues with other installs on this box which is fast with plenty of storage. Windows 10. Suggestions for next steps appreciated. Thanks, BJBBJB1

Bani, Thanks again. This eventually worked but I share the following to give you some feedback and help others. First, I guess it goes without saying this should be bulletproof.....and the desktop install error seems to strike me every year and a half of so and one time is too many. Anyway, went through the steps carefully and instead of freezing at 43% it froze at 53%. And when I went through the steps again, I noted that this file and it's OOBE main folder would not totally delete....the file was "adobe_licutil". It said I needed administrator access to delete....and I was running as administrator. I know windows and I was and am administrator. So I was just going to verify and change permissions but I got a "unable to display current owner". There was no way to change permissions without going through a Linux boot or some such. So I rebooted........it then allowed me to delete after it asked for admin access. FURTHER, there were folders that were NOT there the first time I checked that were after the reboot. There is no doubt, and yes I have hidden folders viewable. Perhaps a reboot needs to be in the documentation somewhere. Specifically SL-Store popped up this time and I renamed. Also (and this is definitive) an "Adobe Creative Cloud_4.2.0.211" was not there and I renamed to old. So perhaps a failed desktop install does not display some of these folders until a reboot. And I have no idea what messed with the permissions on that one file. Anyway, the third time (today) the install did work. Thanks again, but I cannot stress strongly enough how I think the update technology needs to be re-looked at and made absolutely bullet-proof. I know many creative types that cannot sort through all of this technical stuff nor should they. Just a thought. Thanks again. BJBBJB1

I am sorry, i just dont know Mac storage folder locations. Mine were in an old subfolder of where the new ones were. But thats Windows. Perhaps create a test new one, remember the name, then search for it. Perhaps your old ones are in another folder in that location. I just copied them to the new folder and I was good. I share the frustration. You would think the upgrade would do this for us?! BJBBJB1

Bani, Thanks for the reply. Those linked detailed instructions are for the Mac OS. I am on windows as I noted (10 pro to be specific). I can translate finder vs. Explorer etc. but I suspect the processes and folders are different. Do you have a windows version? One big item I did not try to run is the Adobe cleaner program as I was unsure what option number to pick which I tried to explain above in detail. You refer to the same FAQ on the cleaner program and it says: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html Select the application you want to remove: Press the number that corresponds to the app name and then press Enter. So I will try here as it is the same issue and my posts are on the prior thread. My cloud desktop tried to update and failed at 43%. I have a mix of CC2017 and 2015 programs installed. I could not uninstall cloud desktop from windows (because it said the other programs needed it installed so it refused and I could not log out because.....the desktop cloud app would not run) so I ran the "Creative Cloud uninstaller" which ran to completion. Then a re-install also failed at 43%. I am now at the point where my programs say when I start them that I have a bad install of cloud desktop and need to reinstall.Good grief.... and I have projects I need to work on next week so this is getting critical. So next on this menu of choices here https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/failed-install-creative-cloud-desktop.html is to run the cleaner tool. Correct???? This is what a very respected poster also suggested but I am not clear on what option to use. I would really appreciate an answer to this question. When I run the Adobe CC cloud cleaner tool there are 13 options. The link to the CC cleaner tool says to: "Select the application you want to remove: Press the number that corresponds to the app name and then press Enter" https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html This is not real specific for a specific issue of the desktop cloud app not installing.... It seems like re-installing windows when a drive won't install. I JUST want to remove the Creative Cloud app. I do not want to remove all my other cloud apps (well, they used to be programs...Photoshop, Lightroom, etc.) that (were) working until the creative cloud update/desktop app tried to update and failed at 43%. So what selection just "cleans" the desktop update app (assuming that is all I need to do)? It is just not real clear to me.... 1 is "all". Ominous..I assume all the cloud apps that are installed? Hope I don't need to run this.... 2 Adobe Flash N/A 3 Creative Cloud 2017 2015 2014 Creative cloud and CS6 products - seems to clean the cloud and cloud products for CC versions or just CS 6 products? Difference between this and 4??? 7 through 10 is old CS versions. So what number do I run if I just want to clean the cloud desktop and re-install it? I consider myself pretty technical, but this is kind of sketchy. Another Adobe helpfile for when you get "failed to install desktop app" says to choose option 3 and 1!! But the descriptions of 3 and 1 per this link are not one I am seeing now from the CC cloud cleaner tool!!! John, Your assistance is always spot on. I have this error 50 just on the glitch CC cloud update app. All the programs I use work fine and are cloud-based. Just a quick question on your assistance here. The reference to reply number 1 and the 5 steps have me perplexed as it talks about migrating to a new computer? I am hopeful that running that cleaner JUST cleans the CC cloud app and not other programs??? I did read somewhere to backup some appdata folders as it deletes some history and things, is that ture??? I don't want this to mess up LR, PS, or Pr Pro settings or anything. That's all I need. I am not totally up to date on all of those, they are at different update versions but all work. I have not run the cleaner before but hopefully there is an easy way to JUST select the CC cloud update program and not touch any other ones... A long time ago I remember being able to download a direct EXE that solved some of these issues.
