After Effects

I was editing a video and suddenly all the footage turned into these red and white checkerboard squares. I cleared the cache and purged everything, and I also ran the videos through Media Encoder and replaced them, but the issue persists. It happens all of a sudden — a moment before, it showed a warning about something it couldn't embed, and now all the footage looks like this.

After closing After Effects at the top of my desktop bar, I noticed a purple icon with the message 'Adobe After Effects is capturing screen'. Does anybody know what that means and how to turn it off? The AE is not running anymore, but the icon is still live. It bothers me as I don't know why. I did not intend to record my screen so I would be very grateful for any suggestions on how to deal with this.

I want to copy a string variable to Windows clipboard. How can I do that in extendScript? It would be better if you can tell me to do the same for MacOS in addition. Thanks In Advance.

Windows 11 Pro - version 10.0.22631 Build 22631AE 25.2.2 (Build 2)GPU: 4090 - driver: Studio 576.02New update to AE has caused my UI to be extremely slow and locks up my computer. Screenrecord of issue attached.Closed AE and restarted a new clean file. No assets imported. When cursor is moved through top tabs (file, edit, composition, etc) there is extreme lag. When I actually have a project file open and click file, sometimes it takes 5-10 seconds to respond.Let me know if I can provide any other information.

Hi gang! I'm having issues importingfonts (specifically VT323) into aftereffects. This is for a university project surrounding personal branding so it's quite important I get this right. I've downloaded the font onto my computer but absolutely no luck - no matter how many times I close and re open aftereffects.  Any help would be greatly appreciated - THANKS!

Anyone know how to make a mirror floor reflection fade off? So we only see maybe half the object as the reflection fades/blurs away?

In my composition, (After effects) when i try to add frame blending the box i usualy check for it is gone. please help. The clip has time remamping on it, im not sure if that matteres, or if i need to check the frame blending box before i click time remaping.

Hello all,Istalled Production Crate LaForge Suite of plugins a few weeks ago. Great stuff. Was all working fine until it didn't. Now I get the following error: After Effects error: This effect cannot be applied because it cannot be initialized. Try reinstalling or contacting the plug-in developer. (25 :: 3) Specs:2019 Mac Pro – Mac OS sequoia, 15.4.1 (24E263)Ae24 Version 24.6.6 (Build 1) - tried Ae25, same result.Tried completely uninstalling all Production Crate plug-ins using Production Crate app. Then checked all After Effects and media core folders to make sure there was not anything left over. Did a fresh restart, used Disk Utility is to repair permissions did reinstall of Production Crate LaForge Suite version 1.3.8. Nothing working. Any help would be greatly appreciated!Thank you. 

Hi!This might be a stupid question, but every time I sort through my clips to select scenes it seems to mess up or just completely shut off my preview screen. Does anyone know why this happens and how I can fix/prevent it? I've put some pictures below of what I mean 🙂I started using the app yesterday so any advice will be super appreciated 😄Thanks!! 

Hello, I was working on a project, then last time I tried to open it I had this message that Classic 3d plug-in was generarting an unexpected excetpion and AE won't open the file anymoreI emptied the cache, unistalled and reinstalled AE resetting preferences and have loads of space on my mac but nothing seems to sort this out.I also tried to drag the project into a new sequence but that doesn't really sort the issue out.Can anyone please help, I was almost at the end of a massive project and really don't want to redo it from scratch.massive thanks

Hi I've been using After Effects for many years but never had any issues. Just recently every one of my new files is fine on the day i create it. I can go back in and out with no problem. If i don't come back to them for a few days and then reopen, they are always corrupted. I get lots of error messages such as: 'File exists but couldn't be open for reading'Unable to open file''Conforming failed. Error code 1610153782' This is a nightmare at the moment as i have clients waiting on jobs and i can supply nothing. Any advice greatly appreciated. 

Hola, estoy teniendo un problema on after effects. Tengo una ilustracion (illustrator) que importe como precomposicion. Anime la escala y posicion de la imagen entera en el panel de composicion donde esta la timeline completa de todo el video. Ahora quiero utilizar el espacio 3d, pero para modificar las capas de la imagen, tengo que hacerlo desde la precomposicion que aparece separada de la timeline del video entero(la que contiene las capas de ai.), y en ese panel no aparece la imagen tal y como la tengo escalada, puedo modificar cosas y aparecen modificadas, creo que funciona como los objetos inteligentes de ps(?) pero ahi no aparece ninguna de las animaciones que he aplicado a la imagen entera, no se como manejarlo, ayuda. (contexto en las fotos, que quiza me he explicado fatal). Despues quiero crear una camara que se acerque a la parte de "bosque" y vaya como dejando atras los arboles y todo por planos 3d, m ayudaria info sobre como hacer eso tambien.

Morning Adobe.I've recently upgraded after effects 25.2.2 and a lot of plugins are not loading at start up. This only started with the lates 25.2 update. There doesnt seem to be a documented method for removing them and they all seem to be x86 binaries. I'm also having ghosting errors with the play-head leaving glitchy trails on my time line.  Mac Ultra M3 256GB running 15.4.1 (24E263) Many thanks Nick

I noticed that if file browser is in "List" mode, import files (even obj) is OK. But as long  as in "Icon" mode AE will crashed immediately. Anyone has the same problem?  I've been tried AE 2023~2025 and results are the same. Is this AE's problem or Windows??   AE crashed here

Hi there, I cannot use any of the CycoreFXHD Plugins anymore. When I try to use them I get an error message in both AE versions 23.1 and 22.6, saying "Couldn't find main entry point for xxx.aex ( 48 § 72 )"In addition, instantly when starting version 23.1 (not 22.6!) I get a very long error message, saying that the following Plugins have failed to load and that I should reinstall them. Followed by a long list of every single CycoreFXHD Plugin.Windows 10 Pro, 22H2, 19045.2486AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, latest chipset driver 4.11.15.342Nvidia RTX3060 12 GB, latest Studio driver 528.02The last system changes I made between working without the issue and the emergence of the issue was updating my Focusrite Control software and the Windows Update KB5022282.But I have no idea if these are related in any way. I'm editing a 25 second video and no matter what I do I'm unable to render my project. Everything seems fine and working in the preview. but when I try to render it in the render queue it only renders the first second and it's stuck there forever, so I stop it and the warning pops up.I removed any broken expressions, cleared cache hundreds of times, restarted my pc, I'm not sure what else I can do... this has never happened to me before. It says that the file might be damaged or corrupted but the project opens and plays just fine, and I don't think I have any corrupted or damaged files in my project.This has been stressing me out all day, any help is appreciated! 😞 

Hello,I have a project made in After 24.1.0 that I would like to be able to open on the latest version of After (2025) but I get a message telling me that projects using the Cineware effect are not compatible with other versions. My question is, is there a way to easily identify compositions in this project that use this effect so that I can delete them and then be able to open this project in After Effects 2025?Thank you in advance if you can help me!

Hi All, I am trying to open Cinema 4d project in After Effects 25.2.2. In my creative cloud is says the add-on Cinema 4D by Maxon is added, I have also created an account through Maxon's official website, but when I try to create a new Maxon Cinema 4D file from After Effects it says the following error message:After Effects error: Code (A_Err_GENERIC): Cinema 4D 2025 must be installed in order to use "Cineware by Maxon". To install from the Creative Cloud app go to After effects, choose the "..." button next to "Open" and select 'Add-ons'. (0::1) Any idea what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance

 like you can see in this screenshot, i allowed AE to use 16gb out of the 32 i have but it uses more than that,Furthermore, even when i go to edit clear memory and disk cache, there's nothing to clear as i havent launched a preview, i've only just opened my comp in AE and havent started a preview (i also have disabled "cache frames when idle").what's going on?Also my CPU keeps getting used at around 10%, still while doing nothing at all not a preview nothing.

Hey guys, can somebody help me, with my situation?When i add some mp4 or just audio file and open audio waveform , after effects starts lagging when i scrolling between layers, feels like ae workin in 5 fps, and later i tried to open ae in small window, around  10% of my monitor and there was less lags.win11, 64ram, ae on ssd   Title edited by Mod.

The short answer is YOU CAN'T...with the Render Button...The actual answer is you must use Queue In ADOBE MEDIA ENCODER to export HDR content.I am so frustrated i have been testing and racking my brain trying to adjust colorspace and settings in AFX and no matter what i do all files i export have rec 709 colorspace.If you google "after effects export hdr" the results are a bunch of old posts of people trying to figure out how to get hdr from afx.In your after effects online help guide in the color section it talks all about color spaces and never mentions you need to use AME to export.In your help guide render and export settings section there is no mention at all of HDR or needing to use AME to export HDR.I just happened to stumble across some 5 minute video on youtube and caught the 5 second section where he says "you must use AME to export HDR in after effects"Thankfully i found that or i would still be going crazy trying to figure it out.Why don't you communicate this to the user?I

I was using AE when it suddenly stopped responding. I tried uninstalling reinstalling, updating my drivers, and I can access other creative cloud apps. I have the most recent version of the app and everything. Pls help.
