After Effects (Beta)

As you may have noticed, as of After Effects 24.1 build 14 (so for a while now), there were big changes to the rendering of non-model 3D layers in the Advanced 3D engine. Imported models have always used physically-based rendering for their materials and now objects created internally within After Effects do too. Any solids, precomps, text, and shape layers with the 3D switch activated are now textured and renderedwith Adobe Standard Material, a Physically-Based Rendering-material format capable of more accurate and photographic looks. This may have some impact on the way your 2D layers look when you click the toggle to change them to 2D to 3D, but it enables significantly more integrated and beautiful lighting and rendering of your scenes. Physically-Based Rendering (PBR) is an industry-standard way of building out the entire space in which every type of physical material exists and reacts to light and reflections. 3D model import was originally released to After Effects Beta in October 2022. So much has changed in the past 10 months! Steps to reproduce:I work off Google Drive, which has been fine, until the last AE beta update, where projects seem to freeze on asset download, but never seems to recover (spinning beachball, no assets downloading), and I have to force quit AE. How do i get access to ther AE beta(24) with rotobrust 3.0.At the moment, I can only find the Photoshop beta installer. There is no beta for AE installable in Adobe CC. If AE beta is complete, any idea when the 3.0 version of the tool will be released?

On Mac OS (Sonoma) I find glb files which used to show up using the Mercury renderer are now just an empty bounding box. Is this going on for anyone else?

the effects panel lets me write the name of the effect , and responds to the search , but i can't click on it or drag the effects or even scroll on it

The following Memory handling updates are available starting After Effects Beta v23.5x23.  Faster renders  After Effects now allocates memory more quickly, particularly when After Effects is processing intensely such as with multi-frame concurrent rendering. Memory allocations no longer wait for caches to be freed to create space. Instead, space is created asynchronously as needed. This change results in faster renders.  Minimum Cache size for core After Effects  Third Party plugins and Core After Effects share the memory limit as specified through “RAM available for” preference. Working on a spot with "See and Say" graphic Subtitles.I tried to use text based editing to get the timing and transcripted text into after effects for animation. To save time. 2 issues. First I created the captions, and it misspelled a good portion of the dialogue. I kept trying to correct it but it keeps changing them back. Eventually I gave up trying to edit the captions and decided to just use them as a timing reference in after effects. We have a style for the show so all text has to match the style and the brand. So I converted the captions to graphics. and then tried to transfer the timing to after effects. When I select everything and click replace with after effects composition, they come into after effects with each piece of text as a precomp with the editable text inside the precomp. It seems like if you transfer graphic text to after effects you would want it to be editable. because having to go into each precomp to edit the text and pull it out or making any

I've mentioned this before in more general feedback threads on the OCIO implementation but I'd like to have it here as a separate topic.  The current way AE shows the display outputs is in a combined list with the view transforms. While it 'works', it is not very elegant and quickly readable. The other problem is that the color space 'Raw' is defined for every display in the configuration but ultimately means the same. Due to the flat list this space becomes listed times the amount of displays present.  I just made a post on notifying that the v2 config of ACES has been released which adds Display P3 to the displays. This is exactly what I warned for. We now get a total of 4 entries to that list, of which 1 is yet another duplicate... If View Transform and Display Device are separated, the addition of a display means just 1 new entry to the displays, and whatever view transforms that are actually new will be added to it's respective list but existing ones will

Yesterday new ACES configs have been released. Some small tweaks for OCIOv2.1/2.2 and a v2.1 config for OCIOv2.3 which adds Display P3 to the displays and CanonLog2 colorspaces and curves. Can we expect OCIOv2.3 being implemented in AE soon including the ACES config updates? It shouldn't affect current projects as no other spaces were renamed or removed. It may also be practical to look at implementing OCIONamedTransform.

Hello folks, i'm using Geo Layers 3 extension in order to create maps, however, when i want to use 3d models as you guys know i have to use After Effects Beta. I can't add extensions to After Effects Beta, can someone help me?😬😬😬😬😬😬

If I have a 3D model in C4D with condensation on a can, what would be the workflow to export as a .glb or.OBJ and import that into AE Beta to have thecondensation show up within AE Beta, is this possible?Has anyone here run into this sistuation?Thank you.

Will there ever be a 3D space like other 3D programs? It's mostly about the view and how you move around this space. For example, I open Blender and there it is very easy for me to move around the entire 3D space, everything works very quickly, despite the many objects on the scene, and the orientation and position of the camera around the selected element is just pressing one key on the keyboard and the camera orbits around the selected element.In addition, everything is clear, despite the large scene, I can see all the layers, because I can easily zoom in and out of the camera.Working in 3D space in After Effects is very strenuous for me, everything is slow and illegible. Even on smaller scenes, the camera often gets lost and I don't know where I am. Or maybe there are already some settings that make it easier to work in 3D space and I don't know about them?

Brighter than white values seem to be clipped to 1.0, which is a shame - means we can't do HDR stuff without weird workarounds. And if you want to add a glow to just the hilights on an object, catch just the light glinting off the edges, you can't use >1.0 values to isolate the brightest bits any more. Have to be a bit more conservative with your lighting/exposure. Behind the scenes, what colour depth is the Advanced 3D renderer using? Seems to be 32bpc (at least I haven't noticed any banding) and displays as floating point, but .. is it? Why the clamping? Also - that new (? [edit: no, apparently it's been around for a while. I tried scaling some of my images down, so as to improve performance; although, I have 128 Gigs of RAM and plenty of hard-drive space. But this is really destroying my productivity now, having to accommodate for this issue. As a prelude to the problem, I've recently started getting an error message opening files that I've changed on the fly in Photoshop. I edit an image I'm using in After Effects in Photoshop. Most often, when I save the image or export an image to the used file, the image changes automatically in After Effects. I've "never" had error messages related to this process. I've had several since the update before last.And I can't go back to nice-and-tiddy AE, because my project is in Beta.Thanks.

This has been bugging me for years.If you make a mask with bezier vertexes, you get handles on both sides of the vertex, right.Now, when you create the mask, or create a beier vertex through conversion methods, both of the handles are connectd, meaning they move in unison - that is their default behaviour. You can disconnect them by dragging a hande with Alt pressed - from now on the handles are diisconnected and you have to move each separately.That is all fine, that is the expected behaviour.Now,if you have a mask and you animate its shape, the properties of the vertexes are taken from the previous keyframe, as they should.So you create the mask on frame 0 - all your vertexes are bezier vertexes wiith connected handles.Move to frame 10, edit the mask - all your vertexes are still beziers with connected vertexes, fine.Move to frame 20, edit - still fine, all handles are connected.But now create a keyframe between two existing keyframes, let's say frame 13 - all of a sudden all of the

I haven't had this issue yet, but I have noticed similarly-related issues regarding layers not appearing properly or disappearing. Namely, masks. But in this instance, it's an entire layer that wasn't showing up. And then, the layer appeared when I scrubbed through my composition. But another layer disappeared.I've got 128 Gigs of RAM at 5600 Hz and a 3090 GPU with a i9 139500 CPU.Wasn't having these problems before Beta.

I can create a shape layer and trackmatte to get a mask, but this is not optimal, of course. There's no feather. But if I create a new mask within a layer or create a shape layer with a layer selected, the mask appears in the layer panel, but it's as if the maks is set to none. The mask isn't working.Anyone experiencing this? Or does anyone know how to fix this?

Ive been trying to make this video and then render then video but everytime i render the video i get these weird green boxes on the video. I already had to make the video shorter because i could not render the video at all if i kept it at the 5min mark, whatever i used it kept crashing.Anyone know what i seem to be doing wrong ?
