Captivate

I am not a user of Captivate, but rather a software developer who has been tasked with integrating custom software with it, so I would appreciate additional context or ideas that solve my problem but deviate from what I have speced out here.  I have the following need:  - On the first slide, collect a phone number from the user and somehow save it. Ideally it would be validated, but if not, I can live with that. I know that I can collect this with an text entry box, but I cannot find anything on saving that text entry to a variable and referring to that variable in JavaScript on a later slide to use in the API call (it is quite possible that I am approaching this too much like a coder or getting all the terminology wrong).  Or another way that would work is if each user of a Captivate instance were assigned a unique ID and that could be accessed via JavaScript instead (as then I can just save it to our API with the phone number and ID and use the ID to send the

I am new to Captivate but used its predecessor, RoboDemo, back in the day (when it was easy and straight-froward). I need to create software demos that involve a piece of software with two distinct views (leader and follower). So I want to use a split-screen effect to display the effect of actions performed on one screen to the second screen in real time. Do I need to import and superimpose video from the second screen alongside the first screen video to produce that effect?I also want to apply changes in frame rate when appropriate to permit a longer display of key actions, as well as apply highlighting to draw attention to key actions (zooming, highlight boxes, onscreen text, etc.) I know I can use these existing features, but want to know if I can adjust the frame rate per slide (yes, I know I can cheat by simply copying/pasting additional copies of slides to extend the time the image is displayed, but I prefer to use the tools rather than apply a farmer hack).Thanks in advance!

I am using a Captivate 2019 trial to see if it will suit the needs of my school.I have created a basic project and now want to publish and share with students to see how they find it. When publishing I presume I just publish to computer and share, however this is then just showing as a blank screen when opened by others.Am I missing something? We don't use an LMS, just share files through MS SharePoint.Thanks for any help provided,Daniel.

I created a presentation in which some "next" buttons are hidden until an event video has been whatched to ensure all the important contents are seen. The problem is that when the user opens the file he can see a bottom bar with some play/stop/next buttons in the window, so all my work becomes useless.  Is there a way to not display this window bottom bar? Does it depend on the Captivate project preferences?Thank you!

We have stopped published our courses to the EXE format due to the removal of FLASH in browsers.  Is there a way, perhaps even through a 3rd party software, to take all the files created when publishing as HTML5 and package it into a single EXE?  This would simplify having  people review the course.  I believe it would also allow a course to be (easily?) loaded to a web page.  (Not in my skill set but I have been told there are challenges loading all the different components and folders of HTML5 rather than the single item of an EXE.)  We want the full interactivity of the course so publishing it as a video isn't a good solution in this case.

I'm very new to Captivate and I'm trying to figure somethings out.  I currently have a slide with 9 buttons that take you to 9 different quiz questions. Once all the questions have been visited I would like a continue button to appear on the original slide. The only info I can find on how to do this involves using multistates and I haven't ran across a way to make a quiz question a multistate.  Can this even be done and if so what am I missing? Thanks

My Captivate 8 application suddenly stopped working (would not run), and showed the screen in Screendump 1 (attached). I uninstalled and the reinstalled Captivate 8, but the same thing happens whwn I try to run the application. When I clicked the link to Customer Support, the screen in Screendump 2 came up. The referred serial number on the screen does not match the serial number I entered during the reinstallation. Hello - I have a projectc where I must have Closed Captioning available, but I don't want Text to Speech running on every slide.  It has been my experience that most folks turn off the audio on training, and one of my slides has an embedded video that I need them to hear.  What is the best way to handle this?Thanks!

The two videos below show the error I'm getting. The first slide plays fine, the 2nd slide skips about 2 seconds. The remainder of the video is fine.My export settings are below as well. I've never had this problem before using the same settings. This just started happening this week. Release is 11.5.5.553 2019 - just updated the software and that didn't fix the issue.  Any help is appreciated!  

Hello!  I need to recreate two Adobe Captivate courses.  These courses contain audio narration.  The problem is, I don't have access to the source files.  I can only access the courses through my employer's LMS.  Is there any way to export the audio narration from the published courses?  Or, is there a free software tool I can use to transcribe the audio narration?  I'm not hopeful, but I thought I would ask.  It will be really painful to manually transcribe the audio narration, especially since there is no pause button in these courses.  I'll have to keep replaying the slides. Thanks in advance,Shannon Siwicki

Hi all,I have received great help from this community for doing my course. Currently, I am at the tail-end of my interactive course and the last slide is throwing a bit of an issue, I am going to elaborate that below with screenshots.  So, I tried to create a slide where the Navigation for next(nextbutton_187) would be disabled upon entering, and I created a Next button (Next_button_2) on the slide, which would be enabled at the end of the slide.Below is the screenshot of the action chosen for Slide 43. for each pink button, I have created variables named as button_1, button_2 and so on.I am providing a screenshot for the script where I specified that the buttons would be disabled upon entering. On the same script, I have created the condition that all of the pink buttons needs to be clicked to enable the Next_button_2, shown in the below screenshot. In the below screenshot you can see that the Next_button_2 has been given the action of Going to the next s

Captivate 2019. The publish to computer / video has a Bitrate Encoding options of VBR 1 pass and CBR.VBR 1 Pass is the default. I also noticed that in the Adobe Media Encoder CC 2018,  that comes wiht Adobe Captivate 2019, I have an additional option of  VBR 2 Pass.  Would appreciate any insight as to wheether to choose VBR 1 Pass  or 2 Pass or CBR?   Thanks.

Hi EveryoneI am having very strange audio issues with a published Captivate file. Before I explain what that is - the audio files are all mp3 imported into Captivate, as these were the files provided by a client. I have read many of the forums saying the preferred is Wave, but that is not available with this project.Some of my audio files are set to play on slide enter. Others are part of actions. I am testing the file in SCORM Cloud and here is what I have found: When listening through headphones - all audio sounds fine to me.When listening without headphones - slide audio sounds fine, but any audio associated with actions sounds distortedWhen the client tested this with headphones, same as aboveWhen the client tested without headphones - they could not hear any sound on any slide Adobe have not been able to help me - I'm desperate for answers!

HI All - I'm new to captivate and would be grateful for your assistance. I've published to SCORM and HTML5 and when uploaded it to Workday LMS it will not play. Workday advised it's because of flash. I republished the files and deselected SWF and only published in HTML5. On trying to open it keeps redirecting me to adobe page saying - flash retired? I figure there must be smething i'm missing - appreciate your help.  Steve

I am getting random crackling noises when I render video in C9. The audio is very clean, and I don't hear any problems when I preview. I have tried so many different settings my brain hurts. Anyone have a solution?

Is it possible to copyright elearning projects just like you would copyright books?   

Hi,I just upgraded to Window 10 and Captivate 2019 (11.5.5). When I try to open a local Cap 9 file, it will not open if I'm on our VPN. As soon as I disconnect, it will open. Why would the VPN matter if I'm trying to open a file that's on my machine? I have chosen the "aspire" project. I have a chosen a "click to reveal" project slide.  In the "preview" mode, when I click a tab I can see "Topic 01, tell me more, etc" I cannot find any way to edit these sections or even find these sections. In the "timeline" I don't see a place to find and edit this text. 

Hello experts,maybe somebody can help me out here, so far I couldn´t solve it on my own, in fact I am also a new user of Captivate too.What I did: After open up Captivate (testversion) and creating a new project from powerpoint, loading the presentation .pptx file into Captivate without changing any project characteristics I couldn´t help noticing slides content went missing or became greyed out (in fact "blacked"). It keeps staying like that after viewing HTML5 within the browser.... This problem occurs only on the right part of the slides and it is not all "blacked" out either, just some pieces, looks almost like an artifacts problem. I also couldn´t fix it by changing the slides size.What am I missing? Or does this something have to do with the testversion? I need to know that in advance of buying Captivate...Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

Hi, I am a begineer in captivate. I have few presentations, which are completly of learning slides. nothing sort of questions. But i want to get a end result which includes time spent by the user. is it possible to get that? like something we see for the quizz results. Good morning all!I am planning a quiz-type activity in Captivate with a number of personal attributes, and a series of questions to measure your strength against each attribute. At the end of the quiz, I want to disply your highest ranked attribute.I initially thought this would be easy, I planned to have a variable for each attribute and use an action to increase the score for the attribute variable based on each answer. So, for example:varAttributeA, varAttributeB, varAttributeC.Q1: Do you prefer x or y. if x, increase varAttributeA by 1, if y increase varAttributeB by 1.However I can't see an obvious method of ranking or sorting a set of variables by their value in Captivate. Does anyone know if there is a way to do this, or a good workaround? The best I have come up with so far (on paper) is to have an advanced action with a bunch of conditional tabs comparing one variable to another, then another, and storing the highest variable overall from the set of comaprisons in another

Dear all, I have made a slide with fluid boxes and have set up on some buttons on it.  I have then made copies of my slides as I want them all to look the same.  Now I am finding that if I put a text box on slide 1 it is copying to every other side and I can get rid of them unless I deleat the box on slide 1. dont know why.  I created several projects now and cant see I have done anything different to what I have done before.

 Is there any way to add 2 drag sources such as  A1 , A2  and 6 Drop Sources sush as B1,B2 and C1,C2 and D1,D2 in single slide which perform 3 drag and drop activities ?

Found directions on how to clear adobe captivate cache from within the application. My question now is: How can I delete (or relocate without risking program behavior or functionality when projects are re-opened) the memory consuming "Adobe Captivate Cached Projects" folder contents from my PC without ruining the impact/look/feel/function of my existing created and in -progress Cp9 projects? Please help!
