Show a warning when pre-composing a layer that is referencing other layers for a parent or a track matte, and give the option to either move or copy those referenced layers to the new pre-comp. This warning can be hidden by users who prefer not to see it everytime.
Place an FX badge or indicator on layers being referenced by effects. For example, a layer being used as the map for the 'Displacement Map' effect would have an indicator on it. Additionally, a warning could be displayed when attempting to delete a layer referenced by effects, along with an option to hide the warning if desired.

When taking a snapshot and then viewing it, the snapshot should always be shown in the display state it was taken. Currently, if I take a snapshot while in one color space, then change color spaces and try to compare back, the snapshot is viewed through the active color space rather than the one it was taken in. I want to be able to always view my snapshot exactly how it was taken prior to any color space or display adjustments. So what I see when taking the snapshot is exactly what I get. Snapshots are commonly used to compare comp changes as you progress on a project, and the changes I propose will have no effect on that. But a potentially useful part of snapshots could be to check, diagnose, and compare various project settings including color space and display settings. Currently this is not possible with the way snapshots are implemented. And as the community dives deeper into things like ACES, this becomes even more necessary. This could really help in education and pip
The new project panel sorting method has created some workflow problems for myself and other users. I use outline-style naming for comps ("1" is main timeline, "1.1" and "1.2" are precomps in the main timeline, "1.1.1" is a precomp within 1.1, etc). If those numbers stand alone they get sorted as expected, but as soon as I append a more descriptive name (e.g. 1_Main, 1.1_House), the ordering reverses. This doesn't seem to follow any logic I can understand, or reflect the behavior of Finder or other operating systems. I'd like to voice support for "enabling the old sort method as a preference", as mentioned by Adobe employee jenkmeister in this thread. It seems that other users are struggling with this change as well:https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-discussions/reverse-sorting-logic-in-the-project-panel/m-p/13818927 https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-ideas/requests-regarding-sorting-order-in-the-project-panel/idi-p/13949675 Thanks!
As a person trying to get up to speed on new software to help a coworker, I am having a lot of problems with the recommended beginner tutorials for AE. This is the most promoted link: Learn | Adobe Creative Cloud But it contains files and videos from 2018. In 5 years the look, feel, and capabilities of the program has changed dramatically enough that it is very difficult to follow along if you're a true, never-touched-AE-before beginner. Likewise, when files are old enough, it asks to auto-update when you open it, and that opens a whole other can of worms. Not to be ungrateful, but I'm frustrated that I pay as much for CC as I do, and I get better tuturial files and tips off Youtube and third party creators for free than I do from Adobe...
Hi !I was wondering if it would be possible to implement great preflight panel from Indesign to AfterEffects. Or anything similar, main idea is to show error or notification somewhere in the UI, that our text is overset in some text-box-frame (something like when we have error in expressions, and it leads us to problematic layer). It seems as actually pretty easy to implement, and could be on/off option, as optional. Thanks!
Description:Sitting here brushing a million freeking frames and was thinking... Use your AI to analyze the clip you are Rotobrushing, the AI groups same frames into 1 frame, RBing that one frame applys to all frames that are the same. Why is this valuable to you?Would save a lot of my valuable wasted time editing the same frame over... and over... and over... and over....
Hi all,I have great difficulty seeing if the value is selected or not in the AE number boxes. Slight colour vision impairment may be a reason, but I must blame the UI design too.I am using a dark UI theme and the light cyan/blue focus indicator in white background is next to invisible to my eyes: Appearance settings do not help. Can we please have some improvement in luminance contrast? Cheers
I'm an AE noob, but surprised I cannot quickly reload a work area. It seems that Composition Marker Ranges and/or Protected Regions should provide an option via right-click that would allow users to "Set As Work Area" primarily for quick Export configuration. Does this (or something similar) exist already?
Option/alt-clicking a layer's lock padlock should lock all other layers apart from that one. A further opt/alt-click would reverse the process. This would be really handy when working on a layer-heavy comp, especially when working with an effect such as Bezier Warp, where it's really easy to inadvertently select another layer when manipulating handles. Currently, option/alt-clicking the padlock does nothing different from a plain click.
sometimes, especially for itertive work & translations, i wish I could lock comps/precomps at the project level (in the project window vs the timeline window).a way to still twirl down locked layers would be grat too. i dont always want to unlock a layer in order to copy keyframes or parent to something in a locked layer.or maybe its already a feature i dont know how to access?
I often go back and forth between comps to see if they match each other. Suggestion: Shift+click on a comp (at the timeline panel) and it would match the zoom/pan position from the comp I am leaving. I almost never use "zoom fit" which is the only option to match viewers position precisely - but most of the time I need to match some details (e.g. zoomed in on the corners).
Please enable "Roman Hanging Punctuation" for point text. How will the idea help your workflow? Roman Hanging Punctuation is part of brand guidelines. Paragraph Text aka Box Text is challenging to use with expressions for mogrts, templates, etc.Anchor Point [0,0] point can get offset from the boxsourceRectAtTime() attributes take into account the paragraph box size, not just the textVisually two text layers can look the same, but these 2 properties will now be totally different
https://twitter.com/snebold/status/1715069517041398232/photo/3 AI Upscaling needs to happen in AE and Premiere Pro.
It's very simple: Using the scroll wheel on the mouse to navigate trought the font menu is very slow, especially because for every scroll on the wheel, just a few fonts scroll on the menu. So, it would help a lot if there was a scroll bar on the menu, making it possible no navigate more easily and fast.
Make After Effects stealing focus only optional. Why?App stealing focus disrupts work. After Effects steals focus every time render finishes."Play sounds when render finishes" is an option in After Effects, why is not stealing focus?Copying or zipping files don't steal operating system focus every time they finish then why is After Effects?Imagine you're rescaling an image in Photoshop or you're drawing a precise curve in Illustrator and it's all being interrupted and stopped by After Effects which swiches to itself because a render has finished.Basically After Effects stops whatever you were doing to announce something you might not be interested at the moment. So Adobe team please make After Effects stealing focus optional so we could turn it off when needed to focus on our work. It's a simple and easy fix on your end and it would make a big difference on the workflow.Thanks.
I'd like to see some upgrades to the Exposure effect to make it more usable for compositing. Problems:- Exposure value is additive but the math is multiplication. Makes it unsuable to link to color with expressions.- Offset slider despite being float is way too sensitive so can't be used as log exposure in grading with normal mouse sliding. Even holding cmd/ctrl is too sensitive.- Bypass linear conversion still needs to be checked when project is managed with OCIO. Makes sense as it isn't guaranteed that the working space is linear but would be better to have a checkbox in the project color settings to let AE know you work in linear. (I would personally remove the option all together from Camera Lens Blur and Exposure and always do no conversion, it's not that neccesary for non linear anyway) Solutions:- Display Exposure slider as multiplication with 1,0 as the base value.- Greatly reduce the sensitivity/range of the offset slider.- Either remove the conversion checkbox and m
After the appericiated revert of the Exposure Slider value box instead of a dropdown I think we can expand the feature set even more for compositors. There's plenty of space left.I'd like to see a Gamma and Saturation slider too. It is very common to adjust these for checking comps.Their values should be 1,0 default meaning no change. Personally I would also prefer the exposure slider to be 1,0 at base because it's math is actually just multiplication, it isn't really stops in + or -. Doing 2,0 to add a stop makes more sense because we want to multiply the light by 2. 0,5 for 1 stop down etc.
I'd like to see lots more professional features in AE.A big place for improvement is amount of info shown in UI. Problem:Right now your only awareness of resolution is to open the comp settings, or select the respective comp or layer in the Project Panel. For Bit Depth the only reference is the small indicator on the Project Panel which counts for the project only. Layer/Footage depth is never shown. Only Floating Point is indicated but not even if it's 16 half or 32. Solution:Display the current comp resolution and bit depth above the composition viewer. This makes you much more aware of what you are working with and is very common amongst other compositing software. Secondly this same information can also be displayed in the Info Panel below the RGBA/XY information.Additionally for selected layers in a comp we can also easily add important info. You could potentially show even more info similar to what's shown in the preview pane on the Project Panel like the file
I've used AE in the past, it's the best software I found to create Logo animations. However, this software requires 3rd party plug-ins inorder to work smoothly. Like importing multiple vector shapes from a logo and animated them, I guess this can't be done smoothly so we need a plug-ing called 'overlord' by Battleaxe. I need to know from the developers, why can't they enhance AE to fully support adobe illustrator shapes by using clipboard copy paste?
With all the 3D things that have been coming to AE latley, it would be great to see 3D splines/paths import supported. Specifically so effects such as stroke could be used on them. I need to have them be camera aware of course so they will match my renders from C4D. I do alot of medical animations, nervous system and such, with signals traveling thought the body. I know about the import of 3D light animations but i much prefer using stroke effects. I assume this would happen inside a shape layer? Anyway, thanks.
I have a brand color palette Ai file I have to import for every project I work on. It's only purpose is to be a color reference so I have to set it as a Guide Layer, but that's only allowed per composition and I have to set it as Guide Layer over and over. My idea is to allow user-specified footage to be set as a Guide Layer Only in the Project Panel so wherever it is used, it will automatically be a guide layer. It could go under Interpret Footage>Guide Layer Only or in a similar place/name.
It's well known C4D and AE don't play nice, especially when they're both trying to render. But the "Cache Frames When Idle" is such a nice feature I hate to turn it off when I know c4d is going to be running and then forgetting to turn it back on after I'm done with C4D is a bummer. It would be very handy and a nice timesave if we could tell "Cache Frames When Idle" to not do any Cache'ing when Cinema4D.exe or the program of our choice/s is/are running.
Add a checkbox to the "Cache Frames When Idle" preferences to start caching the other comps in the project after the Comp in focus has been cached. With the profliferation of large cache drives and spare cpu cycles these days if a computer is idle for awhile, it would be greatly beneficial to have After Effects chugging away at all the other comps in the project if there is nothing else going on. I also realize that is potentially a lot of data and cpu power to be used so having this turned off by default might be wise.
