FrameMaker

I'm experiencing very odd behaviour with auto numbering when it is used in a cross-reference. I have an Element (Scene) in Document A that has auto numbering. In Document B, I have a cross-reference to the Scene in Document A. Nothing unusual. I've done this many times before. In both documents, the auto numbering matches, e.g. Document A Scene 10, the cross-reference in Document B shows Scene 10. However, I'm having some odd behaviour suddenly. When I now cross-reference Scene 10 (in Document A) from Document B, the cross-reference in Document B shows Scene 13. When I double-click on the cross-reference and click on the Go to Source button, it correctly goes to Document A Scene 10. Sometimes the numbering is out by 1, other times it 's out by several numbers. Edit: Nevermind. I had the wrong tag for the Cross-Reference format 🤦‍

Hello, I'm trying to import an SVG file created in TimeGen (timing diagram software) to FM2022 (v17). When I import the file, FM inserts extra white space around some text, as you can see here (marked in yellow): When I open the SVG using a browser, the extra space is not there:  The extra space can be seen when I create a pdf of the FM file.  Interestingly, my colleagues, who have the exact same version of FM, do not have this issue when they import the same files.  Any ideas why this might be happening, please?  Thanks

I have 2 problems during generating html from FM:1. Biggest - When generating html5, characters in the language Greek, look like corrupted. That happens in only this language.html:FM: This happens in FrameMaker versions 2020 and 2022. In version 2019 the problem doesn't exist.My settings in .sts file look like: 2. Slash and hard space are displayed incorrectly in headings html's (also version 2020 and 2022)1. slashslash doesn't exist in headings.2. hard spaceSign __160 replaces hard space in headings html's. I think that is bug of software. In earlier version program, I don't had these problems.I am asking Adobe to intervene in this matter. Thanks.

Hello! I was trying to navigate through mapping cross-references in my Adobe FrameMaker document to appropriate HTML tags. I see that the cross-reference dialogue box does not let me change the Element Tag from "Unstructured" to an "<a>" tag. Any idea how I can accomplish that? Thanks!

I am getting all confused about some really simple things right now... 1: If I make two separate text frames in a document and apply a numbered paragraph style in each frame  like this:   ... Should I not expect FrameMakers paragraph numbering to work across these two loose text frames?  Should FrameMaker not be using the counter in paragraph style?...    2: When I import styles between document using the command File->Import Formats-> I would not expect FrameMaker to import column layouts under "Document Properties". But that is what it does - but has FrameMaker ALWAYS done that?  

I am designing a template meant for a very old version of FrameMaker, 7.1. And I have a memory of <chapnum> not being part of FrameMaker 7.1. Is that right or does my memory play tricks with me?    

Is it possible to generate a toc only for files which reside in a group or folder in unstructured FrameMaker Version: 17.0.5.725 ? I do not want to insert a minitoc - I need a standalone toc? I can do it by excluding files when generating, but I am looking for a more foolproof solution  

Hello,I have created a mini TOC, and in Reference page I have put a tab stop and set this tab stop with the settings : "right with dots".But in reference page the page num does not move at right, and there is no dots. Why ? 

Hello everyone, I recently converted my files to MIF format for a translation company using FrameMaker 2022. After receiving the translated files, I converted them back to FM format and integrated them into a new FrameMaker book. However, I encounter an issue each time I attempt to open either the MIF files or the newly converted FM files. A message appears stating that "the document contains structured information." In the Edit > Preferences menu, it shows them as FrameMaker files, but others appear as structured files. I’m concerned that this may be related to the translation process, as none of my original documents were structured. I've tried opening each MIF to FM file and using "Save As" to create standard FrameMaker files, which allows me to make edits. However, I suspect this might be the reason my book won’t update or save as a PDF. After saving, I’ve reinserted the files back into the book, but the issue persists. Hello,I am trying to create a standalone TOC in a structured document.Here is the structured document :  So I have made "Insert/TOC/Standalone TOC". Here is my standalone TOC  in Reference mode :  Here is my standalone TOC in body page :  I don't understand why the TOC body page does not display the dots before the page number.

Please, someone help me. I have tried to follow instructions in a couple of other posts for creating a bulleted list that uses checkmarks instead of bullets, and nothing has worked so far. I tried using u2713 for a "checkmark" style the paragraph designer, but the "bullet" shows up as a question mark, no matter what font use. I also tried setting up a character style that uses Wingdings but that didn't work either. It's possible (okay, probable) that there are some simple instructions out there, and I'm just not finding them. If someone can post a link, that would be immensely helpful. I've spent about 30 minutes on this already and am getting nowhere. Thanks!

BMP graphics imported into files created in an older version of FrameMaker are not displayed in FM 17.0.5.725. What should I do?

How do I get Framemaker to remember the text I enter into a particular heading row of a particular table style? What I want to do is click insert table, select the table style of choice, and have the table pop in with certain information already populated to the cells. Anyone? 

Hi,An error says that I need to fix a cyclical loop before I can save the book as a pdf. Does anyone know what this might be. I've also noticed that everytime I try to update the book the program crashes. Thanks, Julianna

Adobe suggests us to use itsrules_override.xml when configuring the XTS file, but I found out the override doesn't take. I had to modify the rules directly on the itsrules.xml before FM would take the modifications. Do I missed a step?

I have multiple monitors and my Paragraph Designer (which also had other panels attached) disappears and cannot be pulled "off screen." How can I reclaim it? I tried system reboot, no change. 

Hi Dave,   I happen to have a minor issue related to creation date, too. I maintain two documents in different language, one being Japanese.  The creation date works perfectly in English font, but after I format the creation date with Japanese font it lost the string month. What should I do to have creation date prints out the month in Japanese? In EN font, the date would be April 2011. But here in JP font, it becomes simply '4 2011'   Regards, Andy

I'm having two issues with conditional text that I have not been able to find explanations for in these discussions or in the FM user guide. 1. I have used conditional tags to hide content but the content still appears in the table of contents. Specifically, I have figures with conditional tags that I want to hide for a specific version of the document. However, when I hide the figure with the conditional tag, the figure is still listed in the table of contents/list of figures. The same issue happens with paragraphs hidden in the document still being listed in the table of contents. Are there ways to keep the hidden content from showing up in the table of contents/list of figures?  2. A related issue I'm having is that when I hide a figure with conditional text (e.g., Figure 1.1), I would like for the remaining figure numbers in the document to shift to accommodate the hidden figure so that when I hide Figure 1.1, Figure 1.2 then becomes the new Figure 1.1. Is

I use unstrutured FM 2022 (17) with Windows 11 and was asked to programme some variant publishing automation into it.So I read some community articles, read about the FDK, theExtendScript Toolkit, and the FM DOM and about how to access the DOM via File > Script in FM. I installed all apps, but nothing is connected to anything else, or even not accessible (as the FDK which is installed but not available anywhere).They're all standalone apps with no hint of how to connect them and transfer data from A to B.And I found an "fdkinstallguide.pdf" from 02.2022 and also "fm-scripting-guide.pdf" from 09.2022. And the installation guide contains a download link that leads to error page, and  the giant guide with 1,000+ pages is also not helpful.I honestly do not know how and where to start anymore. Does anybody have a start-up link for me? Or can that issue only be solved by BUYING into a course offered by some Adobe Certified? Thanks very much in advance!

Hi, My Framemaker template has two para tags for numbered lists: NumberedListFirst (for the first step) (item 1)NumberListNext (for all succeeding steps).  (items 2-n)When I generate HTML using the Publish command, the numbering is not ccorrect in HTML.The first item in the list  is 1. The second item is also 1. The succeeding items are numbered properly, 2-n Also if there is more than one list on an HTML page, the results are even worse: The first item is 1. The second item n+1 (the next number after the last step in the first list).The succeeding items are numbered n+2, n+3, etc. Does anyone have any tips on how I can map these styles to make the numbers show correctly? We have used this template for a long time and no one has ever complained about the numbering in the HTML files so I think this is something new that I introduced. Does anyone have advice on how to map these styles so they are correct in HTML? I have many many numbered list

Hi, I recently upgraded to FrameMaker 2022 and had some problems (see this post). FM was struggling to pull in referenced images that were stored on our server. The solution was to put everything in Dropbox. FM is now able to pull the images, but whenever I try to update the book, it's saying it can't update because a lot of the files are locked. I know they aren't locked--I'm the sole FrameMaker user at our company and the files aren't even open. It will say that, for instance, Chapters 5 and 7 are locked. I'll go in and unlock them, run the Update Book, and then it will say that Chapters 3, 4, 8, and 10 are locked. I've gone into the file explorer and deleted the .LCK files manually, but new ones get created when I try to update the file again. I'll literally click Update Book and then watch as the .LCK files appear in my file list. No matter how many times I update the .LCK files, new ones pop up and I'm never able to complete a book update. I am wondering if the

Hello FrameMaker experts!I'm trying to consolidate multiple documents into FrameMaker for translation purposes. The document has several text strings that would be easier to maintain/validate as variables. I was wondering if anyone found or created a script they'd be willing to share. I started this project in InDesign and have a script for that program, but it doesn't work in FrameMaker.
