It's been a while since I have had to create an Index for a manual. I created it and wanted to use the page number formats that I have throughout the manual (example: 1-2 which displays chapter number and page number). It was only displaying page numbers and no chapter numbers. I had tried importing formatting from an existing Index in another manual. This didn't fix the issue. So I went into View>Reference Pages and added <$chapnum>- before the <$pagenum>. This still didn't fix the issue after clicking Update Book. After that, I received an error message "Book Error Report" which displaed the file for the book and it's location on our server. Under that it said "No master pages applied because the MasterPageMaps table contains no mapping information."I tried to do a search in this forum and in Help Topics but cannot find any information. So how do I fix the issue listed in the book error message and how can I fix my page numbering issues to include the chapter number-pa
Hi folks,I'm using structured FM13 and face spacing issues after table elements. The spacing between the table and the next element is specified with the Table Designer (Basic>Indents & Spacing > Below). This works fine for all my elements but the note element. To obtain similar spacing as with the other elements, the spacing below for the table must be changed from 8pt to 18pt. I tried to work around with the EDD. Here is the structure: |-table |-note | |-notesymbol | |-pIn the EDD the rules for note element would be:Format rules for first paragraph in element If context is: after table Basic properties > Paragraph spacing > Space above: 20pt Else Basic properties > Paragraph spacing > Space above: 12ptThis rule works but another possible s
Hello,I created a new figure caption tag to be used on a two column master page. I cannot get this new figure tag to format correctly in the list of figures generated. Can someone please help me figure this out? I'm sure it has something to do with the reference pages. Here are a few screenshots to maybe help.Thank you in advance for your time.Reference page:This is how the LOF appears. The first row has the correct formatting and the "Figure Caption" paragraph tag. The second row has the "Figure Caption Two Column" paragraph tag.I cannot figure out how to get the correct formatting on the "Figure Caption Two Column" paragraph tag.Any ideas?
I am using Windows 7. The crash essentially prevents me from change preferences on the menu.
Chapter 5 contains a text inset. Chapter 7 contains a cross reference link to content in that text inset. When I create a PDF, clicking the link in Chapter 7 does not make the Chapter 5 text inset display. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks!
We have a template that frequently gets updated, so we have a place on the reference page that displays which version it is. I was asked to make this field automatically update when the template file is saved with a new name, so I used the Filename (Short) variable. This works great until the template format is imported into a new document. Now the new document displays its filename on the reference page (mynewdoc.fm), rather than the template filename (template_041-112018.fm). Is there a way to use the Filename (Short) variable in the template and make FrameMaker retain its text on the reference page when the template format is imported into the new document? Or do we have to go back to manually updating the filename in the template to get what we want?We are using FM17.Thank you.
I know how to insert variables and text in a footer, but I am trying to separate the different elements for example, I would like the title on the left side of the footer and the page# on the right side. I've experimented with tab stops, but it is not giving me the desired results. Thanks in advance.
HiiI am working on DITA1.2 having some trouble while saving table ruling and shading. When I create a table structure and apply some formatting styles it saves properly and close it but when i am going to open this file again the formatting gets disappeared in Framemaker2019.can you please help me out of this problem.
Good morning,I'm running into "File named xx.fm does not exist" errors when I zip my FM book and its children files. On my team, we create a "FrameMaker" folder on our local drive for working FM files. Once we've finished working with the FM files, we create a new, separate folder called "Source Files," and we copy the FM files from the "FrameMaker" folder and paste them into the "Source Files" folder. Other files such as Photoshop and Illustrator files are placed in this folder, too. Then, we send the "Source Files" folder to a compressed (zipped) folder. The error only appears when we open the FM book in the zipped folder. The book can be opened from the zipped folder, but the children files are marked in the book panel (on the left) with a question mark. Clicking to open the children files produces the error. One workaround we've discovered is that we can successfully open the children chapter files themselves from the zipped folder. It's time-consuming, but if we open each chapter f
There may be a simple method for doing this, but my FrameMaker/DITA experience is not great yet.I have a ditamap where I would like to reuse a topic. It is a boilerplate topic that is used more than once throughout the document. When I try to attach the same topic to the ditamap, my output fails. Can I not use the same topic/filename twice in one ditamap? Is this where conkeyrefs come in? I understand how in HTML5 output you might end up with a duplicate URL, but there must be a way of reusing a file without making a copy and changing the name.
The first page of a book second document in the book list has the same number of the last page of the previous
Responsive HTML5 output from FrameMaker 2019 uses the ".htm" filename extension. How do I get output that uses the standard ".html" filename extension?

Please help!I am using a multi column (2 column to be exact) master page layout and want to have a table that continues on the same page. I have two problems:1. The table continuation does not align with the table next to it. (The rows do not align.)2. The table title repeats on both tables, even though I want the title to span across both columns.I have played around with all of the settings. The table title is selected to "span across all columns" (I am not using side heads) and the title still repeats itself.I have played with each objects character and paragraph settings, as well as the table settings and nothing seems to work. Any ideas? I have a tight deadline so any help is greatly appreciated! Here is a screenshot:
Hi!Im having problems because when I take the video to put it in the sequence, just sound but I can´t see the videoCan you help me?
Some of our XML documents contain "included" subdocuments.I have a pre-processor stylesheet which replaces every<include href="relative-path-to-doc" />with<included href="relative-path-to-doc"> ..content from included document..</included>Framemaker runs this correctly when loading the outer document and all the subcontent is included. The stylesheet calls<xsl:apply-templates select="document(@href)/*"/>to do this and the relative-path-to-doc is evaluated relative to the outer document which was passed to the pre-processor.The problem I am having is when the full document is saved. There is a complementary post-processor stylesheet which is supposed to identify any<included href="relative-path-to-doc">...content...</included>,replace the included element with the include element in the output document, and process all the included content within<xsl:result-document href="relative-path-to-doc"><xsl:apply-templates ... /></xsl:resu
HiiI have installed FDK2019(32-bit) and Framemaker2019(32-bit) and created a new DRE file from the existing DRE files in FDK Directory. When i am going to save it as abc.dre the framemaker gives below mentioned error.
HiI'm writing content with XML and I want to use the notice, caution, warning and danger labels in my content. For example if I'm creating a concept I can see those in the reference pages. I also found a way to add frames above and below from Paragraph designer. But when I save the file - close - open, the same file, my formatting is gone. (I did the same thing with fm-file and there this worked.) I created a new style, for example "notice" and imported this style to the template. When I create a new concept I can find my style from the catalog but I don't know how to use it (meaning, how to use it so that it remains when file is closed). Is this related to using the elements? Which element I should use for a custom style? If I try to apply the style in paragraph element (p) the style is again "body" when I reopen the file.
I have a well-established book file that was already successfully used to publish context-sensitive help for our previous release, and now it is no longer generating an .h file, or apparently reading the one I include.Facts:* my FM documents contain TopicAlias markers* in the same directory as my FM book file there is a .h file called <my_book_file_name>.h* this .h file contains definitions of mapIDs with unique numbers* when I generate HTML5 output (even if I do it to a "clean" folder, so not overwriting old output), no .h file is generated.* the csh.js file in my HTML5 output is empty* if I look into the source of my individual html files, there is no CSH marker in therewhat am I missing?please help!
System (currently) Windows 7, but I also need an answer that applies to Windows 10.I've always saved my custom templates to the ...\Adobe FrameMaker \Templates directory so that they are easily available when I want to create a new document from a custom template. This makes templates easy to find, prevents inadvertent changes when I'm creating new documents, and also ensures that I am always using the most current version template.Since Windows 7, though, there's this thing called User Account Control that is playing hob with all sorts of things, including my ability to update the template files. FrameMaker 2019 is now giving me the following message, even though I have FrameMaker 2019 set to run as administrator by default.I do not want to have to hunt all over my hard drive for my template files. I want them in the default template directory so that when I click "New from Template", I can use my custom templates or one of Adobe's. What, precisely, do I need to do so that I can do th
hi there,we use FrameMaker12, it is part of our commercial installation package. Unfortunately, it has some bugs that need fixing. I generate HTML5 from FrameMaker 12 (NOT RoboHelp) and in my German docs, headings with umlauts lead to file names with umlauts, which is a problem for our system. Is there any way to supress the umlauts in the file names? I have my publishing settings configured as follows:Topic Name Pattern: <$paratext>OutputLanguage: GermanEncoding: Unicode (UTF8 without BOM)thanks for any help,s.
I use a format that requires a double space after ther full stop but can not seem to get FM to do it. Any suggestions?CheersIan R
Thanks in advance to the great denizens of Adobe's Blogs for the assist here.My company is managing a large technical document -- hundreds, possibly thousands of pages -- that's scrutinized by government regulators. We've run this document in MS Word in the past, breaking the work into multiple files. We have to Track Changes. It is a nightmare. We're exploring FrameMaker as an alternative, as we want to produce a document more easily (and swiftly) to PDF.However, in my digesting of what FrameMaker can do, it sounds like the way Word tracks changes isn't really present in FrameMaker.Neither is there capability to have multiple people working on the same document at once without somehow breaking it apart, just as we (hate to) do with Word. NOTE: We cannot use cloud computing or a separate CMS for this; the program's got to meet these requirements on its on.Is this a correct reading of FrameMaker's capabilities?
