FrameMaker

I make all of my graphics to size and I save them as AI files. When I link them into FrameMaker (11 / DITA1.2), it adds height and width attributes (in POINTS, of all things) based on the native size of the image. That's fine. However, I have had to resize graphics on a few occasions, which means the size attributes cause problems--the graphic frame is now too big or too small.Can I get FrameMaker to NOT put in the height and width attributes, and just always bring a graphic in at its native size?

I am working in FM 11. My document has an TOC, LOT, and LOF. My LOF wouldn't update so I created a new one from scratch but can't seem to get the LOF to show the chapter number in the Figure number nor in the page number. The format should be Figure X-Y Figurename ............ X-Z. Where X is the source chapter, Y is the figure number in that chapter, and Z is the page number (Figure 1-1 Architecture.............1-5 showing the first figure in chapter 1 is on page 5 of chapter 1.) The reference page for the LOT which is correct:Compared to the reference page for the LOF which only shows me consecutive figure numbers and a page numbers without the chapter prefix:I tried to copy the reference page from either the TOC or LOT. We have definited about 12 color for conditional texts in the framemaker files. One of the colors defined needs to be modified. On using View>color>definition, we are able to use the color palate and do the necessary modification, however, the "Change" option becomes inactive. Request a solution for the same.

I'm preparing to publish a huge (2000+ pages) genealogy of the Grinnell family. I did one in 1997 using Frame 5 or 6 (so long ago, I can't remember) that ran about 700 pages (covering about 15,000 names and 4-5,000 marriages), which I had printed on a Xerox DocuTech from three rather large PDF files (due to glue-edge/tape binding restrictions on the DocuTech, I couldn't go any longer than 125 sheets per volume). It was a successful project and we sold many more copies, on demand, than anticipated.Now, I'm doing it again and I want to add more value to the project by offering it not only in paper form, but in one or more electronic forms, such as ePub or Kindle (this new version will contain information on about 40,000 individuals and 15,000 marriages). The only thing keeping me from considering going with Frame for this project is the need to confirm whether or not I can include a FrameMaker-generated index (indexes are absolutely vital for a genealogy) in those electronic formats. I am working in FM11. I split my chapter to accommodate a 11 x 17" foldout page. On the continuing chapter the paragraph numbers continued correctly, but the figure numbers on the continuation chapter restarted the numbering to Figure 1-1 instead of Figure 1-2. How do I make this correction? Thank you.

I'm in Frame 12.I can find the place for gap beside anchored frame, but what about above and below archored frame? (like there is with tables, for instance)Thanks in advance.

I got a new laptop and installed FM10. To avoid getting the License expired error, I tried installing TCS update 3. But the system displays an error Adobe Application Manager may be damaged. I re-installed Adobe Applicaiton Manager, but still the same error.

Hi, this is my first project using Frame12 to generate CHMs directly using the 'Publish' command.Mostly it's going well, but I've run into a snag with the colour of text in hyperlinks.In Frame, I have some colour definitions set up (a dark green, and a dark red), and am using a couple Character styles to apply these to different hyperlinks. It all looks fine in Frame.However now I go to the Publish pod's Settings and looking in the Style Mapping tab. The output style is set to [Source], so the colour it's going to use should surely just be an RGB Hex code in CSS, corresponding to the RGB colour definition I've set up in Frame? And look the same?Well, the dark red link is showing fine......but the dark green is displaying as a totally different bright lime green! both as Source and Output?! Why is it doing this?Then it gets worse! Because here is what I actually get in the CHM output file......the dark red has gone blue! And the dark green is still light green. Any one in FrameMaker 11 having ANY luck of any kind with a check out rev controlled doc management system for a team?  So far, CMS won't work with FM11.  SharePoint 12 doesn't work with FM11.  And the Browse URL won't allow input of any kind no matter what direction I approach at.  I have been to preferences, allowing checkout of HTTP files on open, and upload HTTP files on save, but nothing works yet.I can check out and return from SP13 from the web, but all links are lost, and only embedded information carries over. Any suggestions and input would be valued.I didn't want to go Ditta simply because the company has SharePoint and it was supposed to be compatible. It isn't, so I need a back door.I would rather not run two systems for Doc Control if I don't have to.  There is much to do, and dividing resources is a waste that I would prefer to avoid.ThanksA

Hi,evidently I made an error somewhere in my structure app, the result is that I cannot open DITA topics by double clicking them in the DITA map anymore (Framemaker does simpy nothing). I can, however, open them by dragging the xml files onto the Framemaker window.  If I use the standard DITA 1.2 application everything works fine so I guess the problem is in my mapping.Here is what I tried to achieve:We need certain variations of the normal 'topic' type topic. The DTD should be identical, however different structures should be auto-inserted when creating a topic and the topic should have certain attribute values predefined.The idea is that the author can select one of these topic types when creating a topic, but when opening an existing topic simply edit it with the standard topic temple.Here is what I did:I duplicated the topic.template.fm, renaming it say "topic_a.template.fm", "topic_b.template.fm" etc. (just an example).I made adjustments to the EDD of these templates, changin

One problem I have been having in adopting the DITA model and using structured Frame is that, every time I change a file name or location, all the links and cross-references and mappings in my DITA system get broken. They are then hell to track down and fix.In the old days, I remember using Dreamweaver to create web sites. This had a brilliant feature which tracked and fixed all broken links. If I had to rename a file, for example, the new name would automatically be updated everywhere the file was referenced. Hi everyone,I have been using TCS4 on my computer at work, then upgraded to TCS5 and then my computer was replaced. Brand new computer, no useless software installed. Yesterday I have been trying all day to install TCS5 on the new computer, but it always failed to install different components. At first it failed to install Distiller, then it failed to install FrameMaker 12 and eventually it failed to installed almost all of the components. I have been uninstalling it and reinstalling it a million times since yesterday, deleted every Adobe folder I could find, cleaned evey Adobe registry entry I could find and here I am still trying to install the suite.My guess is that some registry keys with impossible to guess names are still left behind. How can I do a complete removal of EVERYTHING related to Adobe? I have tried the Creative Cloud cleanul utility, it didn't have any effect, didn't remove anything.I am quite lost at this point and I'm wasting precious time trying to install 13 GB (!

In Edit Preferences in Acrobat XI, I can find Save As Pdf but there's no Framemaker there.In Frame 12 Edit Preferences, there's no PDF setup.Where do I find the setup for the "default" Save As Pdf?Thanks in advance.

So this is probably a longshot, but wanted to put this out there just in case anybody had an idea:Running Miramo 5.4, FrameMaker 6.0 and appendPDF 3.4 on a windows 2000 box and have been creating output PDF files successfully since 2000 up until a few weeks ago.  My company has expressed interest to upgrade to all current version of software on a 2012 windows server, but in the meantime we are having to restart the 2000 box every other day or so because the jobs sporatically get hung up and seem to open many instances of FrameMaker and never close out.  I have not changed anything as far as code goes.  The server team seems to think it maybe an antivirus scan that is the culprit, but all paths having anything to do with the Miramo, FrameMaker, AppendPDF, and my output folders have been excluded from the virus scan.Again, probably a longshot, but has anybody experienced anything like this?Thanks,Ana

I have a bunch of small tables 3-6 rows each and I have a couple of footnotes that apply to multiple cells in multiple tables across several pages. I would like each footnote to appear once per page and just reuse the number in the cells as appropriate. However, FM automatically assigns a footnote in a table cell to be a table footer and places the footnote after the table. Any suggestions as to how I can do this?

I'm working on a book which will become an ebook.I chose as my starting spot the "User Guide" and am having trouble getting the Cover, Legal, Contacts, TOC and Index modified, so I imported my entire document into a copy of the Chapter file. I did not begin with an emty file because there is no place for the text to start; instead I clicked "Show Sample" and then deleted the files contents on the body page.I am unable to modify the object properties of the main flow on the master pages to remove room for side heads. Or rather, I can remove the side heads on the master page but when I move back to the body pages, the file does not update. I am not asked if I want to apply/not apply the master page formats.Thanks in advance.

I am working in FM11. I have a bulleted list of my heading 2 name and numbers. When I add a cross-reference for source type Paragraphs and insert my heading 2, select my reference format for HeadingName_and_Number, it changes to a cross reference marker. I am trying to copy and paste one heading (with name and number) and select that one to quickly increment the heading until I go through the list. This works in some of my other chapters, but keeps changing from paragraphs to cross reference marker. How can I make it stay a paragraph cross reference? Thanks again for your help.

I'm starting a new project, making a book which will become an ebook. I want to begin with the new Framemaker 12 Smart Catalogue enhancements by using some sample or template document.My problem? None of the book templates use the enhanced catalogue. The templates which do use the enhanced catalgoue are thr Reference Card, Parts Catalogue and User Manual. If I use any of these as templates, I will have to do a lot of work to get rid of all the fancy formatting.Is there a place where I can get a complete-ish LIST of the paragraph tag names?Thanks in advance.

Hello,I'm working in a bilingual document with two side-by-side flows and I cannot find the way of adding an anchored frame that runs accross both columns (to host a graphic for example). I could manually split the flows after the required line and add a frame between them but this document is revised every couple of months (adding and removing big amounts of text) and it would be too time demanding.Do you have any tip for me?
