I come to the conclusion there's something I don't understand about FM searches … by scrutinising .mif copies of existing .fm files, I have discovered a redundant style.FM knows it's there – because saving the relevant .book as .pdf throws a warning about a missing font that's only used in this style – and admits it in the paragraph catalogue:On the other hand, FM steadfastly the style denies exists if I search on Paragraph Tag (virtuously checking body pages, master pages and reference pages) in the files concerned.Does Find Paragraph Tag actually mean "find paragraph tag as long as it's applied to some text"? That would be rather limiting.
I have many unstructured documents. Is it possible to convert these documents into strcutured documents? I know that structured FM uses DITA which is different from unstrcutured document. This is client's requirement so I want to get community views on this.
I have a complex document set with multiple conditions to support brand and output, and now I want to add roles. Prior to the roles, I had it set up with the following conditions:BrandABrandBHelpPDFBrandA HelpBrandA PDFBrandB HelpBrandB PDFetc. When I build my documents, I would just use the Show/Hide functionality and come up with something like:Show: Brand A, PDF, BrandA PDFThis worked OK, but has been getting more complex as I have now added two more brands. Now the business wants to add Roles... for example "Read Only" and "Update"I know I can set up additional conditions for the roles, and then append those roles to each of the above conditions as well, but this number of conditions is really starting to get unmanageable. I was wondering if I could cut down the number of conditions and use complex Boolean Expressions to represent what I need.So I'd have something like:(("BrandA" and "PDF") or "BrandA" or "PDF")This would give me the same result as my previous "BrandA PDF" or "Bran
Greetings,I'm trying to figure out how to properly structure and style FigCaptions and images using DITA 1.2. The tagging structure I've been using to insert images into topics is as follows: <fig><title></title><image></fig>. In this scheme I have to set the image placement attribute to "inline" for the image to line up correctly in the left margin (which is determined by the <fig> element), but this in turn makes the image try to wrap around the caption, so to speak. Here's what I'm getting:Here's what I'd like to get (minus the stretched anchored frame kluge):Anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks,Daniel
Does anyone know how to improve the speed of the up/down keys in Frame 11? Scrolling is very slow compared to Frame 7/Win XP. Thanks in advance!
How do I get leader line after the text in the table cells? As the tab stops doesnt work inside the table cell. Kindly suggest what needs to be done?
Hello,I am looking for a good CMS for FrameMaker 11. I already tried componize for Alfresco, but it does not solve our problems. Some important requirements are:- comfortable editor which can be easily used by authors without XML/DITA/FrameMaker-knowledge- creating DITA-imagemaps (CMS editor)- creating DITA-templates without special knowledge or using FrameMaker-templates without problemsIn componize it was possible to download DITA-maps and open them in FrameMaker. But I don`t know how to format a whole DITA-map in FrameMaker - is it possible? Because it wouldn´t be very comfortable to format every single topic by using an EDD..Another idea was to import the whole DITA-map to RoboHelp for formatting, but it didn`t work because of a missing DITA Open Toolkit-Folder? I did download DITA Open Toolkit, but I was not able to install it. Why do I need this for RoboHelp and not for FrameMaker? And for the templates: is there an easy way to create FrameMaker-DITA-templates? I read a lot about
In FM 11, when I save a FM document into XML, the whitespacing between inline elements and after cross-refs is removed. Did anyone experience the same problem? Any solution available?Ann
I have a FM book with several chapters that contain 13 conditional tags in each chapter. About once a month, the book crashes and I get an internal FM error and I cannot use the FM book again and must recreate. Is there a limit to the number of conditional tags allowed in a book or file?
HiI'm currently looking at FrameMaker 11's S1000D plugin. I've read the documentation that is available but I'm confused.I've set up a project, which is a copy of the default Bike project in the same location (in my Roaming Frame directory) but when I load the S1000D Common Source Data the Data Module List is empty.I can click onto the edit button and this will load the DML document and I can edit this with new Data Module Codes and save this document. But when I follow the instructions to refresh this list I'm getting a blank window.I want to be able to see how well this plug in works for IPD Data Modules, but without the ability to insert a dmRef from the Common Source Data window I cannot proceed any further.Any assistance that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.
I watched a webinar posted on the adobe website called "How to Optimize content for smooth migration into XML/DITA" and in the conversion, it showed an element called dita (root) and elements called topic before the main content. I took a class in DITA authoring last month and we learned about elements such as reference and then refbody and concept and conbody. The class I took did not go into how to use DITA in FrameMaker which is what I need to figure out now.I'm using FM 10. I have a conversion table that is working pretty well, however, I understand that I need to import an EDD and a template into the files I convert. My questions are: What template and EDD file do I use? There are so many of them in the Adobe\AdobeFrameMaker10\Structure\xml\DITA_1.2\app folder. In the DITA folder there are folders for concept, and reference and task that look correct. However, in the DITA_1.2 folder I have no idea where to start. Is there any documentation for DITA_1.2 for FrameMaker 10? Or books or
I've been offerred a 4 to 5 month job but it requires using FrameMaker 11 and I have a MAC. Frame is not supported on MACs. [Would rather use UNIX rather than windows but UNIX isn't supported anymore either.] Is it worth the self-induced torment to finally get Windows loaded and then FM up and running on a windows-based MAC partition? Has anyone tried this and had success?
Is it possible to change the default setting in the FrameMaker 11 PDF Set UP window to RGB. The current default setting is CMYK.I have not been able to find a way to do this.Thank-you for your assistance.Brenda
I'm working on a conversion table to move our legacy products from unstructured FM to DITA. I understand the basic concepts but I'm having a problem with the table cells. In my conversion table I have P:CellBody in the first row, mapped to entry with a qualifier of cellbody.I also have TC mapped to entry. The same holds true for P:CellHeading and TH.Consequently, my text is wrapped in two entry elements. The Show Element Context tab shows:entryentryrowtbodytgrouptablebodyNoNameNoNameI'm pretty sure it should be the same as above with only one entry element (and of course with the NoNames fixed which I think I know how to do; I just haven't gotten there yet). How do I avoid having my cells wrapped in two entry elements? Thanks in advance,Marsha
I just switched to a new computer. I'm running Windows 8.1 and FM8. the cross-reference dialog box mpw appears with different proportions from Windows 7, and I can't see enough of the format names to read them.Previously I was running FM8 on a MacBook with Windows 7 and a 22.5 inch monitor (1650x1050). Now have Win 8.1 and a 24-inch monitor (1920x1200).
HiI am importing an SWF to FM11. The dimension of the SWF at its 100%, as I have verified in source FLA file and after importing it to Captivate (just for testing purpose) is 700 x 450 px.However, while importing the same file into FM11, the dimension at 100% is 873 x 566 px. Any idea why this is happening? What is the solution?Sreekanth
Our 3 FrameMaker products says that the license is expired. Why?
I copied a book and files from a coworker and I am getting unresolved cross references to a file called Revision History.fm. I am using Framemaker 11 (not structured).
Is it possible to downgrade FameMaker v10 to v8? Please advise how to.
Dear forum members,Has anyone else noticed this behavior? Insert an anchored frame with an image (like a jpeg) inside it and then insert a text box and enter some text. If you move the text box across the image, the text starts jumping around as it crosses the edge of the image and doesn't settle down until the text box is at least 1/8 inch away from the image boundary. Is there any way to eliminate this behavior? I tried sending the image back and sending the text box forward but to no avail. This is on Frame 7.2 on Windows XP.Yours,Michael F========
I am working in a Structured FrameMaker 11 | Windows 7 environment. I have been working on a test computer. Another testing site was built today, and I am currently working in this newly built computer. I am imported xml files into FM 11 using an automated process. The imported xml files are formatted upon completion of the import into FM11. In the previous computer that I used for testing, when I saved the newly imported FM11 file, I had to save the FrameMaker file using Save As the first time. When I did this, the FrameMaker file saved with the existing file name. I did not need to apply a new file name before saving. If I attempted to save the file the first time using Save, when I closed and then reopened the FrameMaker file, some of the formatting was lost, particularly with tables. In this newly built computer, I am finding that when I perform a Save As, I am receiving an error message that reads:This document was saved to a temporary file, but FrameMaker can't rename it to have
Seems like it should be simple and straightforward, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to style my xrefs. Customer wants them to display as underline and bold. I thought I could just go change one small setting in some style sheet, but I can't find anything that resembles a style sheet. The EDD file shows that under this or that circumstance the link.external or link.asis character format should be used, but I can't seem to find where link.external and link.asis are defined. I found one document that seems to address the issue, but it has a really long and laborious process for applying styles. Surely it's not so hard? Where in the world do I set display styles for xrefs?
I have a Framemaker 11 add-in, which is built in VC++ 6.0 and has a COM server, is returning the error RPC_E_SERVERFAULT on any COM call backs. This happens only on Windows 7 and 8. It works correctly on Windows XP. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Hi All,I noticed a weird behavior of tables in our DITA topics. All tables are supposed to have a left indentation. If a table is preceded with a paragraph, then the table appears with the indentation. That is, everything is fine when we have something like this:<conbody><p>A paragraph goes here</p><table>...</table></conbody>However, if a table is inserted right under <conbody>, then it's displayed page wide without any indentation. That is, there no indentation if we have something like this:<conbody><table>...</table></conbody>The most interesting thing is that this structured application works perfectly fine in FM8. After moving it to FM10, we are having this issue with the indentation.Does anybody have any ideas why it might happen?Any help is greatly appreciated.Thank you very much!PS. We are using the "native" Adobe DITA plugin.
Using Frame 11, I cannot create a PDF because of unavailable fonts. I dutifully change them to what the console says using the Character Designer. That works. But when I open the files back up later, the unavailable fonts message come back.I need some help with this. Thanks.-- David
