FrameMaker

I am using FrameMaker 10 now and want to use a Script that could save current opened files as mif or fm files (version could be selected).Like all open mif files to fm10 version or all fm files saving to mif7.

Issue resolved.A recently installed FM plugin (AcrolinxIQ) seem to have caused the issue.Plugin uninstalled - issue resolved.I have an issue with saving files/book files that has been occurring since October 17th, 2013.Win7 (64-bit), FM10 (10.0.2.419) installed (working in Unstructured).When I have a book open, I click the Save button for any of the files (including the book file), the button does not grey out.1. When I select File > Save all files in a Book, frame shows all the signs that it "saves" all the files.2. I then select FIle > Close all files in a Book.3. Frame now prompts - do I want to save each and every file.      I have to click Yes/No to each and every file (nightmare).4. I then manually click the Save button to save the book, and again - the button does not grey out.5. I then click File > Close Book, Frame now prompts do I want to save the book file.Here's what I tried so far to resolve, but without any success:1.

I'm upgrading from Framemaker v7.2, after long interregnum, and have installation files for FrameMaker v11. They have separate licenses. Questions:- What are the various installation files and folders? Or is there a doc, somewhere, that I can refer to for that info?- Can I run both versions on one machine, and continue writing and publishing in 7.2 while learning v11?Bill Rost

Hello, I am working on DITA 1.2 with FM11. In a ditabookmap I have added Concept ditamap (which contains two concept files) and Topic diatmap (which contains multiple files), But I need chapter 1 should start from topic ditamap. I don’t want to show concept as a chapter. I have defined templates but when I generate FM files I didn’t see any chapter number on concept files but topic ditamap is starting from chapter 3. Hello All, I am working with DITA 1.2 on FM 11. We have defined DITA templates as per our client requirement. We have two different type of templates for topic and concept. Outputtemplates are existing in the below mentioned link. Here, in these templates I have imported topic format settings. D:\Adobe\AdobeFrameMaker11\Structure\xml\DITA\outputTemplates When I generate FM files, I can see only one template formatting. My question is, on which outputtemplate I have to import concept template formatting’s to see concept template in framemaker files. Hello ,I think I am not understanding a basic concept here with regards to work flows.I have set-up a new Master Page in Document A that contains a Side Head and imported it into Document B.When working with the new Master Page Document B I decided that the Side Head needed to be larger.I go to a Master Page view and then choose Format > Page Layout > Column Layout... I get the following warning:I click OK and get the following warning:The Column Layout box appears and I can change the Side Head width but, as warned, only the Right Master Page is changed.How do I change the imported Master Page and what concept am I not understanding?

I use FrameMaker 10 on a Win 7 PC to maintain a large PDF docs set.Some of the dpcs will need to be translated from English into German and French (and maybe other languages in the future). So I'll probably be supplying the translation company with my FM docs saved in MIF format. After the initial translation, I want to be able to keep track of which bits of the English manual has changed and will need re-translating. And maybe even store translations in a translation memory so that we can re-use translated phrases.Can anyone recommend any 3rd party translation management software that integrates with FrameMaker 10? Or any techniques for keeping track of changes in an English doc, so that I can do a 'delta' to establish what needs translating 6 months down the line? (I suppose I could manually run compare, but I'm hoping that there are for tools or plugins that will do as much of the work for me as possible)Thanks

Hello,I am working on DITA topics, I have defined bodytext paragraph tag font as regular in the template. But i need some words/sentence as bold and italics. If i change a word/sentence as bold, when i close it and reopen the file i am seeing regular font again.Could some one help on this issue.Thanks,Harsha..

Hello, In a DITA map I have added Concepts .ditamap and Topics .ditamap (which contains multiple .dita files) and saving ditamap as "Book 11 with fm components". I don’t want to include concepts .ditamap (which contains two dita files) in TOC. I have defined "toc=no" in concept attributes but there is no result. Could anyone please suggest how to hide or how to not include dita files in TOC? Thank you.

Is it possible to create a cross reference that has a "space" where text can be inserted later? I am thinking of a reference like "see No. __ in Fig.42 on page 8-3" with __ being the space where the number from the image can be inserted. My idea for a cross reference would be like this:see No. <$inputChar><$inputChar> in Fig. <$AbsNumExkl> on page <$chapnum>-<$SeiteNum>. The tag <$inputChar> being a space for an insertable character. Is such a  thing possible in FrameMaker or is there even a default tag in FrameMaker for such a "space"? I haven't a clue what I should be looking for to find a solution, hence posting my question here.Any help or ideas would be very mucha ppreciated!Thanks

We upgraded from Structured FrameMaker 9 to 11. Now I can not open, edit, or add files to a large, multi-filed book created in 9. We are still on Windows NT, but will upgrade to Windows 7 soon. HELP please!!!

Since I got FM11, I can't print books anymore. Do you have the same problem? How did you manage to print books again?

I have a document that contains many hyperlinks to external PDF files. Not sure if I created the link correctly to start with, but when I save the book file as a pdf none of the links to the external pdf files work.  I entered the location of the files as the marker tex as shown ../Vendor_Data/Show/vendor_manual.pdf not sure if I need anything in the hypertext field. can someone assist. the directory structure is:  c:\techpubs\Frame\files.fm  the vendor data is c:\techpubsVendor_Data\data.pdf.Thanks

I am performing testing in a Windows 7 environment with Structured FrameMaker 11. I currently work with Structured FrameMaker 8. I am encountering some issues with the FM11 error console and with losing formatting in FrameMaker files and would appreciate assistance. I am using an internally automated process that imports an xml feed into a FrameMaker template and produces a formatted FrameMaker document. In the FrameMaker 11 error console window under XML Parser Messages (Document Instance), there is a list of errors with line numbers indicated.  It is my understanding that the line numbers correspond to the line numbers of the xml file. I am viewing the xml using Notepad++ and I am not finding that the line numbers for the errors correspond to the line numbers displaying in Notepad++. If I format the FrameMaker file and save it, then reopen it, there is a message box that reads:Validation of XML file failed.Continue?When the FrameMaker file opens some of the formatting is lost, p

I am attempting to build an IETP from the sample S1000D bike data provided with TCS 4.  I have opened the S1000D bike sample Publication Module (PM) in Framemaker 11.  I followed  the help file instructions but have encountered a couple of issues.  First, when I attempted to set global applicability for the book, there are no applicability values available (see help file instructions below).To implement applicability (Global) at a book level,When the book file is in focus, select S1000D > Common Source Data.The S1000D Common Source Data dialog appears.In the Common Source Data dialog, select the Applicability tab and then PCT.In the list of products, select the applicable product and click Apply.I am beginning to think that the Book/PM is not properly set up with applicability values.Second, the "Publish IETP" menu item is grayed out and not available.Any ideas on what I am doing wrong? I am creating a parts list manual with exploded diagrams and other mechanical drawings. The parts are in numbered lists. I am trying to have the callouts in the drawings be associated with the corresponding number in the list. So that way if I need to update the list and insert/remove a part in the middle of the list then the associated numbers in the drawings change automatically.We can do this in iLeaf using autonumbers and autoreference but I cannot see where this can be done in FrameMaker. We are presently in the process of moving away from iLeaf over to FrameMaker and this is one of the challenges I have found. We have large parts lists and drawings and having to manually move callouts is something we need to avoid if possible.Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have a paragraph style for tutorials in my unstructured FM books.The number style is:T:Tutorial <n+>:\tIn one book, the numbering carries on as I want, incrementing throughout the book. In another book, the tutorial numbering resets to 1 in each new chapter.Does anyone have any idea why this would happen?

Hi, is there a way to (temporarely) suppress the validation? I have a large amount of DITA files created with an old FM version. For some reason, the doctype "dita" has been written into the headers. All I need to do is open each file, confirm the validation error message, and save the file again. FM then automatically writes the correct doctype. However clicking through all these error messages would be very time consuming.This is FM11 with FMx 1.1.Robert
