When i opened the help system, the navigation panel looked good but the content page looked small. I went to the font settings and switched to Largest, BUT all the text on the screen became smaller, around 6pt. I switched to Larger, Medium, etc, the font was much smaller. How can i make the font bigger? I hate to read small text.Is this help system generated through FrameMaker? If yes, i am very very disappointed with FrameMaker.
I inherited a publishing workflow from a company that uses Framemaker. I started my own company (and hence no loner work at the place that uses Framemaker). Since I knew I would be converting the workflow to InDesign, I saved a bunch of the files as MIFs. However, I didn't get them all saved as MIFs. Now I need to extract text from some of the FM files, but I don't own Framemaker. And I am on a mac, so I will never own Framemaker. So, my question is this: is there a way to somehow extract the text from these old FM files? I've tried making a PDF online, but FM is not one of the file formats that Adobe supports for online conversion. Is there maybe a way to open the files in a text editor and extract the text?Or perhaps is there a reasonably priced online service that will save them as MIFs for me?Thanks for your help.
I am using FM2020, structured with DITA.I am having what appears to be same error posted in an older post (https://community.adobe.com/t5/framemaker-discussions/has-anyone-seen-this-conditional-text-error-show-hide-setting-is-inconsistent/m-p/7842474), but the solution there does not work. I am guessing that the difference is that I am using structured DITA. The error message is: maker: Error in <filename>.fm while updating UntitledBook13.book: maker: Show/Hide setting for DITA-Comment is inconsistent. It does not matter what ditamap I publish, i always get this error for DITA-Comment and DITA-Prolog for all files in the DITAMAP.I have reviewed all DITA files, and used the "import format " to make them consistent (as per the above the suggestion) and that did not fix the problem.I then used "import format" to all of the template files to ensure that they were consistent with each other, and that did not fix the problem.I then us
Hi,I have an index. The page numbers are right-aligned with a tab to the right side of the text frame. When the text extends too far to the page number area, I want to insert a line break.I can get the TextRange or the TextLoc of the single characters in the text. However, I do not know how to get the distance to the text frame border.I did not find any LocX property of the TextRange or the TextLoc.How can I tackle this? Which object and which property do I have to check?Thank you very much for your help!Best regards, Winfried
I am running the new updated version of FrameMaker and it seems it has stopped generating pdf hyperlinks on miniTOCs. Am I the only one to experience this?...
I opened a structured fm file wrongly in unstructured mode and saved it. When I opened this fm file again in structured mode, the structure view has been blank. Does anyone no how to withdraw this?
We run an old application in a structured FM. Now that we must switch to win 11 and frameMaker 2022, do we have to update the EDD and DTD files as well? or will it still be working with the old settings?Maybe a strange question, but I normally don't work in FrameMaker and I'm trying to get the app running in the new environnement. Hi, Immediately when trying to publish books or separate documents after updating to FM 17.0.5 all attemps crash with Internal error 17054. Have mif-washed and also tested on local machine. Working with structured FM. Any hints? Best regards,Mats
I found an answer from last year related to lock files, which was... turn off the lock file feature in Preferences. While I can do this, there are some concerns about fallout. For example, one book has +200 files. The editor might touch 30 to 50 in any given month. If he were to leave one open (perhaps he minimized or otherwise failed to close it without noticing) and run a book-wide operation, I'm not sure what might happen. More vexing is this simple fact: it hasn't happened since an update problem some years back, but its happening again after the last two updates. Does anyone have any theories about what might be setting off these behaviors for files? Is there some other solution besides turning off lock files altogether? Should I be poking Adobe's bug report system?
Good evening all, In an Fm 17.07 project I've created a generated list of elements, and on the reference page I am asking for the value of a Date attribute using the following code:<$attribute[Date]> Unfortunately, though I believe the building block to be correct, it returns <$attribute in the generated file, rather than, say, 10/9/2025 Has anyone seen this, or know the reference page syntax I need to do this?
Hi thereI'm new to Framemaker. I've downloaded a trail version with the hope I could add hotspots (for use in technical publications/S1000d) to either a PDF or CGM illustration.I can't seem to be able to open either of these file types? Can anyone help please! Thanks
I have a customer who has some dire issues with the font Aptos. FrameMaker is installed locally on C, but the documents reside on OneDrive. The font is installed in the Windows font directory, but for some reason it is not available for FrameMaker. Any ideas what may be the issue here?
I'm using FM 2022 and I use Hypertext links. When I do a Save as PDF the links are not working. Is this a known bug and is there a workaround?
Background: We use red font to indicate changes in the draft document. Then we change the red text back to black before issuing the final version of the document. We sometimes have master page borders and artwork that we use red text with that we do NOT want to change. Four questions: Is there a way to manually search for red text and find it? I didn't see it in the find and replace options? (If I could find it manually, I would be better able to find a way to script it.) Is there a way to script this? I found a script on here to find and replace text, but I don't think this would be the same thing. I know tables present some difficulty, in that if press Ctrl-A to select all and change the font, I usually have to change the tables. My lead would prefer for the script to find the red text and prompt if you want to change it or not? (He's worried about the automated script changing the artwork and/or occasional (rare) times that we actually want red text in the docume
I have been using FM 2019 for years, on a Windows 10 pc, publising pdf, chm and repsonsive html5. (The upgrade to FM 2020 didn't include a sts file upgrade, so I decided to stay with FM2019.) This week my PC died, and I got a new one. This one running Windows 11. I installed FM 2022 and converted one of my FM 2019 documents. The pdf came out perfect. But the sts file conversion from FM 2019 to FM 2022 didn't turn out well. Font and other formats were lost, both for chm and resp html5. Can I from a FM 2019 chm file extract the sts file contents? Can I from FM 2019 responsive html5 files extract the sts file contents?(I can spend some time manually entering the sts values in FM 2022, if required.)
I have a book containing many .fm files, which is a complete manual. I'd like to also create PDFs from specific collections of these same .fm files, where each PDF is to address a specific user type. However, I'd like each PDF to be able to continue to use the cross-references that link to what will now be a location in a separate PDF. For example, I would have a general info PDF and both the user PDF and the admin PDF would need to be able to link into the information in the general info PDF. How would I set this up? Thanks for any tips.
I am updating a FrameMaker book in which a previous author used an indexing technique I haven't encountered before. There are conventional markers of type "Index", but these are replicated as text with a conditional tag called "Index" applied to it. The markers use this syntax: .i.[topic]:[sub-topic];How do you turn these conditional text markers into an index, and why might an author use this approach? Thanks in advance for any insights!
I recall a couple of earlier posts regarding ES support for assertions; specifically, that while ES supports lookahead assertions, it does not support lookbehind assertions. In my experience, while the Find/Change panel appears to support both, and I've successfully used positive lookbehinds in the FrameMaker 2022 scripts, negative lookbehinds do not appear to work in ES. Can anyone confirm this and/or point me to a more definitive discussion regarding ES support for assertions. I use these extensively to search documents for capitalization, hyphenation, spacing, and spelling errors that are outside the scope of the dictionary. My other question is regarding capture groups. While capture groups seem to work OK in the Find/Change panel, I've run into problems using them in scripts. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Any suggestions welcome.
I want to update the master pages of all docs in a book using a jsx script but im not sure how to do it.I have a template.fm file which contains the desired master page format . One of the layers in a symbol I've made keeps disappearing while the other ones are still there. How can I fix it so it doesn't disappear?
Is there a way to configure chapter autonumbering that skips over single page files that are section dividers and not content chapters?
BackgroundLast week I started production on a large translation project (4, 100+ page source files into 9 target languages). Worked on Latin-based and CJK-based documents without issue.I use Extensis Connect (EC) to manage my fonts. The workstation is Windows 11.All software is up-to-date. IssueAs of yesterday FrameMaker is suddenly reporting: The "HelveticaNeueLT Pro 75 Bd Bold" (HNLTP) Font is not available. To the extent of my knowledge nothing changed between Friday and Monday on my workstation. Steps TakenVerified that HNLTP activated through EC displays correctly in EC, and that the font is available and working in other apps (INDD / AI / PS 2025 all show the font correctly).Deactivated all fonts in EC (Vault / System / User / Google) and activated just HNLTP form my Vault. (No change)Deactivated all fonts in Creative Cloud Desktop (CCD), and removed an locally installed fonts, while having only HNLTP active from the EC vault. (No change)Deactivated HNLTP in EC and u
I have a book with a bunch of tables. I want to generate a TOC or a List of Paragraphs BUT I want that list to be in the shape of a table. I have tried various trick to cheat FM into generating the list inside the table but to no avail. Can it be done?... FrameMaker Version: 17.0.7.842
Hi.I have a custom dictionary that I want Framemaker to use. I have inserted a path to it in Maker.ini, but FrameMaker does not seem to get it. When I try to get Spelling Checker to Import Personal Dictionary, Framemaker just crashes.
