FrameMaker

I am now including a MiniToc at the start of each chapter when there's either a long book or at least one chapter longer than 14 pages in a book.   Some of these chapters are have lots of major subsection headings, and the TOC runs into a second page. This is obviously not ideal. If I can figure out a way to dual column the MiniToc so that the frame holding it adjusts its vertical space without having the rest of the file in dual column or having to set up new tags so that the body of the doc is across both columns, that would be really, really nice.   Is there a way to do that, or do I have to deal with a page+ of MiniToc? There doesn't seem to be any way to put the MiniToc in its own frames, although it does appear to act like a text inset.

Some of our users in Japan are getting an error similar to (though the message is in Japanese): “Internal error, Closing FrameMaker due to critical error. FrameLog_22.09.****.dmp created. Submit this FrameLog****.dmp to Adobe technical support. This happens when the users attempt to connect to the AEM repository via the FrameMaker 2020 Connection Manager. We've submitted the issue to Adobe FrameMaker support, but in the meantime, they suggested that we also post the issue to this community to see if anyone else has experienced this and has workaround steps to suggest. Thank you in advance for your help.  

When FrameMaker adds an extra page for an even paging (two side printing) ...can that extra page, automatically be assigned a different Master Page...? I can do it manually...but rather not have to go through the whole document to check each time.

My serial number is valid (confirmed by support), and since I have a non-subscription version, no charge method is needed. It says I have 38 days left! How do I fix this? 

I can't figure out whether FrameMaker 2022 is going to be an automatic update, which will be pushed out to 2020 subscribers, once it is released? Anybody who knows it?Bjørn

Hi All, Clients are using FrameMaker 16.0.4.1062 with structured documents. I am seeing some cases where cross-references are working in FrameMaker but not in the resulting PDF. When I check the PDF, the link is pointing to a named destination that did not get created; in other words, the named destination is not in the PDF. Has anyone else seen this? So far, I have seen this with two separate clients. Thanks.

Hi everyone! I'm fairly new to FrameMaker 2020 and recently inherited a document with some chaptering issues. In the ToC, two different chapters are listed as "Chapter 5," which also appears in both sections' page/chapter headers. This happened after I'd used the "Update Book" option to try to fix some other page numbering issues. The correct Chapter 5 looks like this:  And the incorrect Chapter 5 (which should be Chapter 6) looks like it's formatted the same way, so I'm not sure what the issue is: I've tried to check the overall chaptering settings for the book file for disceprancies between that and the individual chapters, but it's greyed out:  I've been trying to fix this for a few days without any luck, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

I use FrameMaker 12 for my technical writing work. I ahve been using it for years. The past two times I updated a document, all of the chapter headers and footers from the Master pages I created were woiped out. the fitst time it happened was with a 2000 page software manual, so I thought the number of pages might be te issue. However, it just happened again with a much smaller user manual. The message in the Book Error Report is shown below. I am thinking next time I update I can uncheck the apply master pages option - does anyone know if that will work? Or can anyone tell me how I access the MasterPageMaps table?Thanks in advance!Frustrated in PA    

Hi Everyone,Query from a relative newbie to HTML5 using FM2020. Apologies if this topic has been discussed before. I am working on an FM book where the both the front cover and the rear cover are at the top level. The cover pages are needed as the book also outputs to PDF, which is free of any error.  This is the screenshot of the FM book, showing that the front cover and rear cover are at the same level.However, after generating the HTML5 output, the TOC shows front cover at top level but the rear cover way down the hierarchy. I know that the names of the FM files and the HTML5 output pages are different. [Newbie's explanation] this is because the output pages use the first (or most significant) paragraph style that is encounters in the page. To rule out any error, I have made a copy of the front cover, renamed it as rear cover and inserted both at the top level in the book. Hi--I create parts manuals with imported graphics on each page. To make my proofing/editing work easier, I'm trying to find a way to display the names of these graphics on each page. I thought a user-defined variable added to the master page footer might work, but I haven't been able to find any examples of how to construct such a variable. I do know how to generate a list of all references--my question is about whether or not it is possible to display the names of the references on the page where they are actually located.  Any thoughts or suggestions?  Thank you! 

Hi again. The books I'm working on are set up so that there's a TOC at the top of the left-facing page, then an index begins below that and continues on the right-facing page. The way I've been doing it is generating a standalone index and a TOC, then cut-and-paste into the spread. I know that's probably the FM equivalent of making 3 left turns to go right. What I really want to do is have the Index and TOC set up as they're meant to be, so that refreshing the book updates those items automatically. Is there a way to set that up so the two generated items can be on the same page and both do the auto-updates? Do I instead have to do a mini-TOC or something? Thanks.

HiThe company I work with has several FM subscriptions; we're all using FM 2019 (15.05.838) because (since updating to Win 11) we've been unable to run the more recent updates. Next week a new user is joining and will need to install a new copy of FrameMaker. So several questions which I had been deferring because they were not urgent have now become more pressing.Because our maker.ini etc are under source control, we all need to be on the same FM version; install together, and update together.What might be the simplest option: can I install a brand new copy of FM 2020 myself, run it simultaneously with my current FM 2019 on my laptop with my single subscription while I identify any changes/improvements and document them for the rest of the team, and then we can all jump to FM2020 next week?The more complicated option is expecting the new user to find the 15.05.838 installer and run it on her laptop, because I expect that she would have exactly the same issue with completing the instal

All of our chapters and book files are saved in our network drive. The network drive has not been touched or moved at all. I got a new computer. I downloaded FrameMaker. When I opened a book file, all chapter files were not linked even generated files such as Table of Contents. It can find/relink it if I opened the chapter files from file explorer while I have the book file open.Is there a better solution to re-link all these files?

Hi,I am using FM 2015.The following has happened to me many times. I have not found a pattern as to why or when. Has anyone else seen something like this?The case is like this. I have text and I want to insert a space and a new word.For example, today I had the following text:"Each checker actual output argument shall be variable_lvalue or net_lvalue."I want it to read"Each checker actual output argument shall be a variable_lvalue or an net_lvalue."adding " a" after "be" and " an" after "or".However, when I typed the additional text, with the space before them, I got the following:"Each checker actual output argument shall bea variable_lvalue oran net_lvalue."Track edits is on.What I actually see are the inserted spaces, but they are crossed-out red, i.e., deleted by FM.I work around this by forcing spaces, using CTRL + space, but I should not have to do this.Any ideas?I have already asked Barb Binder privately, but she said she never said or heard of this.Thanks!Shalom

I am generating pdf files from FrameMaker 2019 using Publish. I need print marks, but it seems it is TOMBO print marks I am getting and not Western. Where can I control this behaviour?

I have never before had any need for password protecting my pdf files, but now I do. FM 2019 had built-in password protection in the Publish dialogue, but what has happened to that feature in FM2020?...Has it been moved somewhere else? ... 

Dear experts, You know the access keys which are indicated in the label of a button or menu item by underline. For example, you press the Find button in the Find/Change panel by using Alt+f. I have discovered that this mechanism does not work in ES palettes, but works correctly in ES dialogs. You can test this with the following script by exchanging the window definition. Run it in ESTK with taget ESTK or in FM with the appropriate target definition. I have not found any documentation about this, neither in the CC Javascipt Tools Guide, nor in the Adobe FrameMaker Scripting Guide. Even Peter Kahrel does not mention this 'feature' in his famous ScriptUI for Dummies. → Is this a bug or a known difference? Any documentation about this? FrameMaker 2020 (16.0.4) refused to start AGAIN this morning: no splash screen and no FrameMaker process running in the Task Manager. At first, I thought this was the same bug as in Frame 2015. A couple of weeks ago, I was able to fix the problem by renaming or deleting the Linguistics folder in: C:\Users\Your.Name\AppData\LocalLow\Adobe But now, this little trick does not seem to work. I have created a one-page template and added one layer component so within that layer component I have added two images one by one. So my requirement is if I drag or resize the component second component automatically gets up in one line. e.g first image is left side and the second image is the right side. If anyone suggests one to me.

I've had this happen a few times... I have a document with equations and they all suddenly disappear. The equation boxes are still there but there is nothing in them.  Anyone know how to resolve this?

Using FrameMaker 16.0.2 with DITA 1.3 We have maps that are filtered for various products. The product-specific cover page content is stored in the prodname element of the ditamap. The title element is a generic "Operator's Guide" and we want the product-specific information to appear as the title page bookmark in the PDF, we also want the product-specific information to appear in the PDF title bar. For example, the operator's guide map is used for a series of products. The map metadata includes a series of prodinfo elements to record the system name. The map title is Operator's Guide. On our cover page, the prodname element is used for the main title. The map title (Operator's Guide) is used as a secondary title on the cover. See the attached image. Currently, we are manually altering the PDF title in the rendered document as they all appear as Operator's Guide. We want them to display the full title and prodname element contents. Is there any way, for example, to
