Hi, I have a question about EPS and PDF.In one of my graphics there is a terminal with a semi-transparent foil. When I create an EPS file and import this into FrameMaker and create a PDF (or when I convert the EPS directly to PDF), then the contour of the semi-transparent part is now pixelated. When I create a PDF file from my vector graphics application, then the PDF is _not_ pixelated. Also when I import this PDF into FrameMaker and convert to PDF, the resulting PDF is not pixelated. Does Acrobat Distiller change anything on an EPS file, when it converts it to PDF? So that I can find out, if this is a FrameMaker/Distiller issue or a problem of my graphics application. Best regards Winfried
I am working with a large table with a lot of table footnotes. But FrameMaker seems to have a mind of its own with the naming of my footnotes.I want to insert a table footnote beside the "g" and according to the continuity of the other footnotes, this footnote should be "i".BUT FrameMaker can't figure that out. It inserts an "h". If I insert my footnote in another place in the same table, I CAN have my "i" (which is the right letter), but apparently not beside a "g"...What is happening? And how do I fix it? It seems like some sort of bug.?
Hi -, I'm trying to use sharepoint online as a CMS with Framemaker 2020.I can connect to sharepoint, create files and check them inBut when I go to check them out, they download locally, delete themselves and get the message that Framemaker cannot find the file. The SP log has the below information... Each time I generate a new TOC, the TOC generates, but I cannot click on a chapter and have the chapter display. I clicks on a chapter and only the TOC displays. I am using FrameMaker 2019.Also, I keep getting errors that say the book numbering is not correct. I set the first file as Volume 1 and Chapter 1. Then set all the others as Same as Previous, but the page numbers do not advance correctly. The first chapter goes from page 1 to 60, but the next chapter does not start at 61.
Hi,We are migrating from FM 14 to FM 16. While doing so we have noticed that the DITA templates that were working for FM14 are not working in FM16.For instance, we have modified the ChapterOutputTpl.fm to change the properties pf "title.0" and "title.1" as should below in the snip. Now when we are generating the PDF the output is taking the modified properties of title.0 but not of title.1 as shown in the bleow snip.Other than this the overall template with modified page layout, document properties, table properties, charater and paragraph formats is not getting picked-up at all except for title.0 format. Whereas he same ChapterOutputTpl.fm was giving correct PDF output with FM14.Please help in resolving the issue. Thanks
At our company, we use Jenkins to build software projects. With the FM2020 update, the length of the paths has changed, it is longer, and this makes it impossible for them to integrate the help due to the number of characters. In 2019 there was a folder and all the files were inside it, now in 2020 each file generates a folder where it is stored. Is there a possible way to publish it following the old structure? Or cut the names of the generated structure and everything still works fine?
Whenever I click anywhere in the document, the Structure View appears to be refreshed/redrawn (best I can describe the action). There is no smoot jump/scrolling. FM also appears to be refreshing/redrawing the Structure View three times. The same happens when using the scrollbar to scroll down the Structure View - it's not scrolling smoothly, but refreshing redrawing the text as it becomes visible. We had similar 'visual' issues in the past where document pages would only render when they become the active page - as though FM is only loading the content visible on screen into memory.Thoughts? Suggesions?
I am having a numbering issue that seems like a glitch, which I can't seem to solve, In one instance and going from an H2 3.2 followed by body text, and an anchored frame at the bottom of the page. At the top of the next page, I have the next H2, but it restarts at 3.1. This doesn't happen all the time but I can't find the condition that is causing it. Any ideas?
I purchase FrameMaker but it is stuck on a Trial, are all products like this?
Hi Everyone,I have some questions regarding "g" element level tags. How do I modify the translation XTS file to remove the following? <g translate="no" id="ID0EYX3O" />, where the "id" could be any value. My translation provider has flagged the <g translate="no" id="........." /> string as being incorrect.Example below <trans-unit resname="p[Bullet]" restype="x-paragraph" id="ID0EL3DQ"> <source xml:space="preserve" xml:lang="en-US"> <g translate="no" id="ID0ET3DQ" />The charger is for indoor use only. Do not use outdoors.</source> </trans-unit> I have noticed the application of <g translate="no" id="........." /> seems to be related to paragraph styles that include bullet points etc. But it also seems to apply some what randomly as in the example below which contains no bullet points or character formatting. <trans-unit resname="p[Body]" restype="x-paragraph" id="ID0EZYDQ"> <source xml:spa
Dear friends and experts, I want to find automatic hyphens in a selected text. It turns out that both oDoc.GetTextForRange and object.GetText eliminate these characters which are in the text (e.g. they are are present in MIF) - char code \x06. In the example output from GetText such characters are expected at the end of lines 1 and 2: Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the coun tries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Sepa rated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean Of course they can be found with the Find method and the following Find parameters: oPropVal2.propIdent.num = Constants.FS_FindObject; oPropVal2.propVal.valType = Constants.FT_Integer; oPropVal2.propVal.ival = Constants.FV_FindAutomaticHyphen ; Any ideas? I imagine a brute force method: Save the document prophylactically (mhm, the user might not like this). Get the start location of the text range
For some reason after obtaining a subscription to use Technical Communication Suite, I'm unable to activate my Acrobat Pro that should come with it. Since it's a subscription, there's no serial number to enter. It knows I have an Adobe account, but it won't acknowledge that as being part of my Technical Communication Suite subscription.
Hello to all!I am new to this amazing world of Extendscript but I have been using Framemaker since version 5.5.I am working on a kind of cross-reference manager and it works really nice. I can list all cross-references at book or document level, select the cross-reference to be shown in the current document and so on. I am using non-structured FM.The problem I am facing is the creation of cross-reference itself.I know how to create a Cross-Ref Marker for the Xref, but I don´t know how to insert the Xref into the content. I tried with NewAnchoredFormattedObject function with objType, format and textLoc parameters. Also there´s the XRefSrcText property (string containg unique ID:pgf_tag:text). The question is: Should I use the same string (the content of XRefSrcText) as text for the Cross-Ref type Marker? Or just the pgf text that contains the Cross-Ref?I have found several examples using Framescript but I am unable to replicate the code using ES.Thanks for reading me. I will appreciate
Greetings,I'm in the process of sanitizing a document and need to find all instances of graphics that are imported by copy and not referenced to a file on disk. Is there a way to find those? I can search for anchored frames in the Find/Replace dialog, but that includes referenced graphics too (which is the vast majority). Best regards,Mats
I am working on massive standards project and I need to do a search and replace for a lot of terms. I need to, for instance, search for the term (USB-C) and replace it with the same term but cross referenced to a reference term. Right now I am making the first cross reference, copy it, and the searching for the term, and replacing it manually with the cross reference on the clip board. While this works, it is cumbersome, because I have to activate the document every time I want to do the Paste. There has to be a smarter way for this. Is there a script, plugin or merely a standard FrameMaker way to do it?
Either because of my novice-level of FM knowledge or the limitations of FM itself (I'm probably too much of a novice to know the difference yet), there are things my company would very much like to automate in assembling data and then formatting and publishing books for print and web. I/we have the master pages/styles and that covered; we're not looking for a designer, more like we want to be able to string together specific actions in specific situations (i.e., "when a bulleted list is encountered, substitute the bullet points with square glyph, apply styles 1, 2, and 3"). So, kind of like what I'd do with making a Nested Style in ID and then an Action using the nested style, but with a functionality where it is automatically applied when importing formats. Does that make sense? Is this something we should/need to hire a freelancer/contractor for? And if so, could anyone recommend a good way to find one? Thanks.
Dear Friends and experts, Has anyone of you ever tried to find something programmatically in a text selection (aka text range)? The Find method works from a starting point (Text Location) towards the end of a document. When I select a part of the document and issue the search, it obviously starts just after the selection... oTR = oDoc.TextSelection; oFindParms = GetFindParameters (..); oTR1 = oDoc.Find(oTR.beg, oFindParms); Even if the searched item is within the selection, the resulting oTR1 is behind the selction. I have no idea how to do a search within the selection.
Hello, I need to have latest JQuery support in HTML help files
The Extendscript method doc.DeleteUndefinedAttribute and the equivalent FDK F_ApiDeleteUndefinedAttribute are not available for a book. There appears to be no other way to delete an undefined attribute or even a normal attribute for that matter. They are available for a document, as discussed in Delete an attribute. I have used the nomenclature ele.Attributes = changedAttributes a lot. It appears that the Extendscript implementation just goes through and updates any attributes with changed values. It does not remove any, should changedAttributes be one less. 😉 .pop() also appears to be ignored for attributes, in that the attributes length says the same. Am I missing something easy here? Jon
I need to have FrameMaker search for at text string like this: USB-C i<XREF>But FrameMaker refuses to do so. I expect it has something to do with it resembling code... or something. Can anything be done? How do i make FrameMaker do a search for this string and make it find it?
Hello all, I will be using unstructured FrameMaker 15.0.6.956 for the project below. I am working on a document in Word that I will be moving to FrameMaker a little later in the process. (The original doc is in Word and there are multiple writers who are still working in the Word version using Master Docs.) The document is an engineering textbook that uses several hundred equations, for which MathType is used in the Word version. I will be moving it to FrameMaker for the ease of formatting, indexing, styles, cross-references, etc. I have never used the MathML Equation feature in FrameMaker, but I see that it seems very similar to MathType--a kind of MathType for FrameMaker, maybe? Anyway, I am wondering if MathType will be importable into the FrameMaker doc. It doesn't seem to be copy/pastable, and I'm concerned that I may need to recreate every equation in the Frame version. Thank you! Nina
I have to admit I have never understood the behavior of pagination controls in FM. For example, in the book I am working on, when I say not to change the page count - to control whether the next chapter begins on a right or left page - when I update the book, pages are added. When I assign a master page without a header (i.e. no page number) and update, the default left page (with page number) is tacked on.Advice?
I'm running Framemaker 11 on a Windows 7, 64-bit machine with an i7 processor at 2+ ghz and 8.0 MB RAM.My Frame files, with imported/referenced images, are scrolling extremely slowly. When I say slow, I mean as the page scrolls into view it freezes for 10 - 20 seconds before "catching up" and displaying the page.I have a "background" image on my master pages that contains simple graphics for the top header and some borders to delineate areas of the page. Those backgrounds are imported. Thjese imported files are about 1.1 MB.My remaining images are imported by reference on the various body pages. They are .ai files and are 2.5 - 5 (ish) MB in size.I've been searching for an answer. My deadline is going to pass my by while I wait for pages to load. Please help!
We work in a structured environment in Frame2019. Our writers currently use the draft-comment element to add source references about the content (which may not be the best element for this type of comment?). We want to retain this content for reference from year to year but we do not want it to appear in the final published pdf & epub. Increasingly, we are also using the draft-comment element as a form of communication between the writers, subject matter experts and editor (as an action type comment, e.g., "I added this paragraph, can you validate?") The communication back and forth needs to be visible in Frame, Oxy Web Author and a pdf. This communication back and forth is removed when the issue is resolved and is not maintained in the dita when the content has been finalized. What we have found is that the comments addressed to the writer, editor or subject matter experts are getting missed because we have so many sources referenced. We publish a pdf for Subj
Dear friends,on https://www.daube.ch/docu/fmaker86.html you find version 0.8 of the script FMfindRepl. As pointed out earlier, it is not possible to have the Replace function in the script itself (I'm no more able to do such complicated things) and hence I had to follow the old principle of divide and conquer:Find functions in the scriptSave/retrieve settings in the scriptReplacement function in the standard FM F/C panel to which the settings are automatically transferred.I hope that the script is still useful with this constraints.Find in book is not yet implemented. Please communicate problems/errors directly to me (klaus, daube.ch)You can test it also in a German FM version - the installation routine and the script adapts to the FM UI language (de, en, fr). French translation was done with the help of Deepl. So far the development took 427h - you see, my performance can no more be commercialised...
