Hi, I was taught (many years ago) to do my work in Photoshop and then save the final file as a tiff to include in my page layout program. It seems like InDesign files that have a lot of Photoshop files added to them are very large and take a long time to load. Is there a good reason to do one over the other?
Necesito maquetar un libro en indesign con el lomo a la derecha y no sé cómo configurar el documento
I designed a book and printed it using the booklet function and everything printed great. I am using a Mac and chose the 2 up perfect bound style with 16 page signatures. When orgaznizing the signatures I accidentally damaged two spreads and I want to reprint those spreads without having to reprint the entire book. The problem I have is that the book/document in its editable form is not in booklet form so I can't just select a spread and print it because the page numbers are just sequential. They are not in booklet order. When I go to print in booklet I can see the spreads I want to print in the preview but there is no option to just print a solo spread. The range button is kind of confusing because there are no options for spreads or anything and if I put page numbes in it only prints individual page numbers, not the spreads that I need to fit into the booklet. So, how do I print select spreads in booklet form? Any help would be appreciated. I'm sure there is a way, bu
I haven't quite been able to figure out the difference between TRACKING and KERNING.However, in the meantime, is there a keyboard shortcut I can use to enter tracking in (numerical) with the keyboard?
Hello, I am creating a basic end of the book index. Everything was going well until the index grew longer than the one page I added at the end of the file for the index. I added a new page now, updated the index and regenerated the index, but the entries are still only showing in one page and ending at letter i. Any ideas please?
Without warning InDesign began failing to to flow text around a second text box. At the same time it became impossible to indent a paragraph immediately after some, but not all image caption text boxes. I've used Adobe Cloud to delete and reload InDesign thinking my original had become corrupted but the problem persists.
I am wondering if there is anyway of removing the deafault list that inDesign uses. e.g TV XRef Chapter Number, File Name, Image Name, Creation Date etc I am inserting many variables in my documents and would rather the drop down list i see not have them avaialble.
Hi! Recently, while using Peter Kahre's sidenotes script I encountered an error message: "Invalid value for parameter 'reference' of method 'move'. Expected Text, Story, Cell, Row, Column, Table, or Page Item, but received nothing. (line 37)." Since this error appeared, I haven’t been able to continue using the script, and unfortunately, I couldn't convert the footnotes to sidenotes as I had intended. If someone have any advice on resolving this issue, I would be truly grateful. 🙂
My text is wrapping to the next line when there's still room in the column. This is causing a horrible rag on my column of text. Is there a way to fix this? It's throughout my document and several of my students are having the same problem.
This is a show stopper for me as I am doing a blurb book! See error dialog when loading. I have temporarily been able to get InDesign to start by removing the Blurb plug-in folder, but this won't allow me to publish my Blurb book 😞 I am on a Windows 11 ARM (Surface Laptop 7). I would be willing to use build 20.4, but it now says expired and won't start either. Please help.
Most fo the time I use Alt (Option) + drag to copy an object in InDesign, it makes Indesign crash. This has been happenign for months since I updated to Indesign 2025. It's so frustrating because I a so used to use that keyboard shortcaut to copy objects. Anyone have an idea of why this is happening?
I've uploaded files to my printer and don't see the bleeds. I checked my Package/PDF/X4:2008 settings and the bleeds are set at 0. I check the Document Setup and the bleeds are set at .125". I've checked the boxes and there doesn't seem to be a way forward. So, I can't use Package? I have to use Export? Hmm.
I want to make the image on the right the same size as the entire grouped object on the left. But I don't know how to get its geometric boundaries. How do I determine that it's part of the group?
I made an interactive document with a stack of layers some time ago.Interactive pdf works like a charm.Today I needed to make some adjustments in the file, an addition to one of the bottom layers. The InDesign document shows correctly, but when exporting the file to interactive pdf, the layer order is not honoured. The button I added in the bottom layer (while behaving correctly in the InDesign document) is now on top of the stack, and the on-tap/on-release with button visibility is not properly working. Layer is set to be(come) invisible/not show when clicking a certain button, but it shows anyway.Happens both on Windows and Mac, InDesign 17 x64.Any pointers on what may be happening? I remember I've had this before in an older version, and I had to cut/paste-in-place all the objects again in the order I wanted/needed them to appear, but this document has grown so large, it would take me days to do that.
I'm trying to figure out how to get InDesign to access stylistic alternates in a specific font (Bembo Book MT Pro in my case). I want to update an .indt file so that any books laid out using the template (with paragraph/character styles, etc.) in the future will have the short-tailed R swapped in instead of the long-tailed R that ships with the font by default. Does anyone have any ideas, beyond using Find/Change with glyph ids? I'm looking for a way to "set it and forget it" in a template file, rather than always have a Find/Change (or script) that needs to be performed as a subsequent step after a book has been typeset. I don't know why Monotype ships the long-tailed R as the default and doesn't even enable the short-tailed one in a stylistic set... or why InDesign seems to have stopped exposing salt via the GUI. Seems like many people must have this issue. I'm not sure I can shell out for Monotype to create a custom font modification, and the font license indicates pretty clear
Hello, I can't figure out what I am doing wrong with the spreads in this book. When converted to PDF the pages seem separeted at chapters. (see screen shot). I've added pages, deleted pages, trying to get the book (when in PDF format) to flow properly. Thanks in advance for you help!
It appears that bullets and numbers have been implemented by hijacking tabs and indents. As far as I can tell, this makes it impossible to do a hanging indent as you see fit. So now, to get lines of text after the first one to show up with a hanging indent, I have to put a hard return at the end of the first line and create a whole other style for subsequent lines. Lame, to say the least. Am I overlooking some other option? And no... tables are not an option for us. In this screen grab, the examples at the top show what the text needs to look like. The underline is created by a tab with a leading _ character. The apparent hanging indent is accomplished with the hard returns. The one I'm working on shows why:
Dear all,I have recently received a shipment of new titles from my printer. The printing run comprised 3 titles of 25 units each. All titles were packaged and shipped in the same way. One of the title had ink stains on all 25 units, with 5 units being unusable (see the kind of damage in the pictures below, one picture per damaged unit). The printer saw the pictures and said that the damage is caused by rubbing during shipment and they refused to issue a credit note for more than one damaged copy. They also insisted that this is due to the non-laminated covers. Please note that none of the titles had laminated cover, yet only one title contained significantly damaged copies. Everything was shipped in the same big box with four smaller boxes inside.Their price for laminating the covers for less than 50 copies is 200% the single unit cost, which makes it unviable. Two questions:(1) what do you think caused this damage? (2) what good printers are available in mainland Europe? These a
I have been a PS user for years, but am just now beginning to use InDesign. I may be so new at this application that I might get this question posted wrong, but I will try. My first real project is to convert an existing in-house newsletter from MS Publisher, to InDesign. For the most part this has gone well. The older publication has used "border art" for the boxes/frames that contain text and/or artwork. Publisher offers a wide range of style options for those. InDesign does offer a few, and they are modifiiable to some extent...but there doesn't seem to be any path to adding actual "art" or other styles..... (hearts, flowers, etc. ...new or different styles). I suppose my question is...have there been any "packs" or other additional sources created, that would give users more choices? Is there some process inside of the application for doing this ?
Hey gang,There are 60 languages (if you include regional variants) built into InDesign. Why is there no Latin? (Now there is!)
Weird problem — My InDesign files on my home mac will not sync to my Adobe cloud storage. All other file types sync ok (eg: pdf jpg psd). Only the InDesign files are missing. So when I go into work to continue working on a file, I can see the PDF that I made from the InDesign file I just cannot see the .indd file itself! Weirdorama. Yes I have checked the log in credentials and re-installed the desktop app on my home mac. The error alert on my home desktop's Adobe CC icon says 'File suncing error. Some files failed to sync'. Any ideas hive mind please.
Hi everyone,My indesign acts a bit weird with some pdf files. If I want to insert a pdf file I get following error: "failed to open the pdf file". It works on another computer so I really don't know what the problem could be. This is what I've already tried:- removing the creative suite and installing it again: doesn't work- placing the pdf file and opening the options: doesn't work.Hopefully one of you guys can help me.Regards!Daniëlle
