My InDesign file is 5mb. When I export it to a PDF, it becomes 80mb. Compressing the file didn't work because it is too large. I don't think it is the images in the document--when I used the Optimized PDF function with Adobe, much of the issue was "x object forms" (taking up 90% of the file size). Any thoughts?
I am working on indexing a >1,000 page, 18 document book. I would like to have ALL index terms from all documents in the Index pallette regardless of which/how-many document(s) are open. Currently, only the index terms from the open documents appear in the index pallette. How can I get that done? The book container .indb is open. Having all >1000 pages (with LOADS of large illustrations) open makes ID slow and crashy (iMac 18 core 64 GB RAM: not a hardware limitation). Having all terms available is important for consistency and to be able to search for existing index entries. Thanks for letting me know.
Hello,I have read multiple posts on working with mixed text and am pretty experienced with it myself but this time Im just stuck! I am working with a doc (coming from word) that has mostly english text with hebrew salt and peppered throughout. Im using world ready par composer, middle eastern indesign, left to right text direction and even have paragraph styles for english and then charachter styles for hebrew- but- some of the text is still getting jumbled/ out of order. Attaching screenshots below. 1 is from indesign, 2 is from word where the hebrew words are in correct order. (The real file is a large booklet....)Happy to send a file to anyone who thinks they can help. Much appreciated!!
Hi! I'm new to indesign and trying to use data merge (multiple records feature). All the information from my excel sheet is transferred correctly, however even with margins at zero everything is shifted slightly down and to the right. My master page has a margin of .15 and I have a bleed of .125 all around, and what happens is the top left corner of my design, which is normally on the top left corner of the bleed, shifts down to the top left corner of the canvas. This is also how it shows up on preview. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I have been racking my mind for hours trying to figure this out. I used various Open Ai sources to no avail too. Please refer to the screenshot above: You see, when I type the address, the number portion of the address automatically places itself at the end of the sentence. No matter what I did, even making a new paragraph style did not work. In one of the online solutions I was following, I turned on number only to find out that this too only appeared on the right hand side of the composition. Any punctuation marks I made then shows up to the left. I checked the indent tab, I looked for invisible elements, under character, I changed the language from Hebrew to English USA, and countless other things and I am at my wits end. Hopefully someone here knows the answer and can help me to solve this. Thank you so much in advance!
I work on long documents. They are comprsed of an InDesign book, about about 50 or so different InDesign documents. Most of the InDesign documents have (and are supposed to have) an even number of pages. But at the back of the book are engineering drawings. While some contain an even number of pages, some contain an odd number of pages. I've recently started experiencing an issue where InDesign automatically is adding an extra blank page to the documents containing an odd number of pages. This happens across dozens of InDesign documents, used in about 2 dozen InDesign books. I have tried manually removing the pages, but they just keep reappearing. I have tried exporting all the documents as IDML, then reopening them as INDD. But the issue persists. I've been working on various iteriations of these documents for over a decade, and this problem just started last month. My workflow has not changed. I am using InDesign 2024. What might cause InDesign to st
I am trying to draw curved lines indicating movements on a map using the pen tool in In-design as instructed in the manuals and online help. This seems to be limited to 's' curves. How can I draw a simple 'c' curve, with one curve in between points?
As you can see from the screenshot, when I add a new text box using the type tool, it is adding weird spacing in between the words so they are being spaced into these groups of words. I've tried adjusting the default paragrpah setting, changing the spacing between words, see if there's a rule page issue, but nothing has worked. Everything else on the page looks fine it's just when I add a new text box. Please help!
Hello beautiful Adobe Community!I'm using a PC with latest InDesign.I discovered that InDesign's Transparency Flatten will never stay on high quality. Always changes back to Low quality. Even when no document is open or closed.A business card we always do got rejected because the drop shadows and transparencies are low quality on export. I have tried exporting use Press Quality with correct compression settings. I have tried High quality and I have tried PDF/X-1a2001 (<---this usually always works). No matter what I do it is always low quality on export. It just the transparencies though. Other images are always good vector or raster. IThoughts?--------------------I have tried many different PDF versions. I am missing something. Chatgpt AI's thoughtsSince you said “It just the transparencies though” and “flattener always resets to Low,” you're probably exporting to a PDF version that ignores the flattener setting, and the flattening is ha

Some windows cannot be closed by pressing Esc.Is it possible to add code to make it simpler? If it's too complicated, I'll give up. As in this script, pressing Esc has no effect.https://creativepro.com/files/kahrel/indesign/grep_editor.html
Hi.I'm trying to export png - social media banner. Quality is maximum, ppi is 72 and antialias is checked from options. Despite this in final png text is w/o antialias and very ruff on edges. Here a gif attached - what it is and what it should suppose to be. How can I fix this?
Help ! I've been printing labels from InDesign onto Avery labels for years. Suddenly the top margin has changed and is not aligned with the template. It's not a printer issue, I've tried it on both Epsons I have (ET-2750 and ET-2850). Has an InDesign update changed something ?
Hi everyone, I often import Word documents into InDesign, but I end up spending a lot of time cleaning up messy styles and formatting. Is there a faster or more efficient way to handle this? Maybe a workflow, script, or best practice that helps streamline the process? Any advice would be appreciated!
Alright, I’m having the following problem:If I copy a colored object, say, a simple square, that has a color value of #30b1f2, this WILL change to #30b0f2 when pasting the square in Indesign. When I copy from Indesign to Illustrator, no changes take place. It’s only when copying from Illustrator to Indesign. The following settings are the same in both documents:– identical color space for flattening transparencies: RGB (even though no transparencies exist)– identical sRGB as working profile (no CMYK elements whatsoever exist in my Indesign document)– identical color conversion settings: absolute colorimetric RI, no black point conversion (even though this probably should not matter when it comes to simple colord vectors)As I need to copy a large amount of colors, it is not feasible for me to double-check everything. The difference that occurs in the example I’ve given is not even visible—yet, the colors do absolutely have to be the intended values and not randomly different by a d
If anyone is interested in a Javascipt version of my InDesign to Photoshop Layers AppleScript, I’ve converted it to JS via BridgeTalk and the current version is here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/fgl2b67v7iuyu701twgc9/h?rlkey=gygixac74tr4mp9l87oa2l1a9&dl=0 Click the Download link, save to your InDesign Scripts folder, where you can run it from the Scripts panel. I also included a layered test ID file. I have tested on OSX High Sierra with CC2020, and it seems to work fine, but would welcome feedback if there are any problems. I would like to know if there is some way to automate the layout process of a magazine? I have an 84 page book with multiple ads on each page (over 175 ads per magazine). Currently each ad's indesign file is "placed" on its corresponding page manually. Is there a script (or some other feature) that would allow me to automate this? I assume there would have to be some sort of file naming protocol (and maybe a corresponding excel sheet) that would determine where each ad is meant to go. Any ideas or more efficient solution would be greatly appreciated.
Hello. My instructional book is being translated into Chinese, and the translator has all of the formatted text. I'm not concerned about pirating from the text, because this book would require having its 1,000 plus images in order to make it worth pirating. The book is technical and difficult to understand without the images, which means that the translator will better understand what she is translating if I share a stripped down version of the book with images flowing within the text. So I'm trying to figure out solutions to protect a pdf that I share with her. Watermarking looks pretty easy to remove. Password protection doesn't sound to be worthwhile either. One thought I had was to alter the export settings to make the images low quality and require effort to see them. Any other ideas? Thanks!
Hello, I am seeking help as I try to get the total ink coverage of a document below 240%. I have viewed the document using color separation in inDesign to determine where there it is over ink by 241%. I have opened the art assets in Photoshop, and used Convert to Profile to create a custom CYMK profile that is set to 235% total ink. Then set mode to RGB and back to CYMK to apply the profile. All my art is either .psd, .tiff, or .jpg (I believe they all can embed color profiles). Upon updating that art in inDesign, the art still appears over ink. I have inDesign set to preserve embedded color profiles. I can't see to get the total ink changes in Photoshop to be reflected in inDesign. Any tips? Thank you!
Hello,I need my first footnote on the first page of each section to be an asterisk rather than "1". After the first one, the footnotes need to continue normally (1,2,3...)Is this possible?
Hello guys,I`m trying to make sure that the main text that contains the definition has the same width and coordinates (x and y) in all pages, but i feel like doing it manual might take a long and painful time, so i was wondering the following: ¿Is there a script or plug-in where i can fit all the content of the text in the parameters of all pages?
Hi all. I have a curious one here where my before + after spacing options are suddenly not working. They were working fine earlier today and I haven't updated or done anything out of the ordinary, but those options are mysteriously greyed out now. I can't insert the cursor into any of these. I've restarted and tried a brand new document. Not too keen to replace settings yet as I lose all my shortcuts every time. 😄Any thoughts?
When I create a documentin indesign and then export as an interacvrive PDF, the colours, when the file is opened in photoshop don't match. The example is this:Background colour is #d6002a. Colour profile is set as sRGB IEC61966-2.1, Conversion Options as Adobe (AVE) and intent as Absolute Colouremtric. When I open the file in Photoshop from the PDF the #d6002a has now changed to #f90027 I checked my profiles and everything matches. When I export the file as a PDF normally, but with settings set for web, the colours match exactly. The lack of ability to choose any colour settings when exporting as an interactive PDF is quite irritating when I know the colours are right, but the export process is obvioulsy changing something. Anyone have any ideas as to how to solve this, because it's driving me mad.
