InDesign

Ever since the last updated, drop shadows aren't displaying properly when exporting PNGs from Indesign. There are a couple of threads, but no solutions, It's becoming annoying, as the workaround is to close the app completely and reopen the file. Totally messes the workflow.

Hello everyone, I bought a new Windows 11 laptop with 16GB RAM and RTX 4050 (6GB), but Adobe InDesign isn’t working properly. Undo stops after 1–2 steps, and text or chapters disappear while editing. Tried versions 21.2–20.4, same issue. Thank you.

My Links Panel works fine.  However for the first time since using InDesign over 10 years ago, the yellow triangles or red question marks that attach themselves to images which have issues of a link, no longer show in Normal View.  No idea why it happened, and no idea how to fix it.  I don't have a Links Panel issue.  I spent 30 minutes searching, but could not find anyone with this issue.  I am sure it is an easy fix, if you know how.  any help?  thanks   {Renamed by MOD}

HelloThis is again on the issue of rendering Arabic marks in front of characters in InDesign, there were great contributions made by ​@Joel Cherney ​@Dirk Becker ​@Barb Binder regarding the rendering of marks in general in InDesign for Latin (LTR), where the mark renders in front of the base character but in Arabic (RTL) the mark goes behind it like this:In my case I have a book that it is dedicated for kids learning with custom colorized marks that must be put slightly in front of some base characters, the result is absolutely the mark will render behind the base character making part of it invisible (as shown above).To experiment this problem, we can copy this the Arabic word "اْدوبي" (Adobe) and paste it in InDesign using any font that supports Arabic script (Adobe Arabic or Arial), this word has Arabic Sukun on the first letter Alef, by colorizing the mark only and selecting them both (base & mark) using Diacritic Positioning in InDesign we can move the mark vertically (-90), t

Hi folksI’m running into a display issue where InDesign scrambles text kerning. In a current project, my text can sometimes display like this:  when it should look like this. I haven’t changed  anythign in the meantime. I’m using Optical kerning. If I set kerning to Metric and back to Optical the problem disappears.Is this connected to the current bug with text disappearing when edited? Hope this gets fixed because it’s a significant headache!I’m using Futura family from Adobe fonts - maybe an issue with that? ThanksRichard

There's weird spaces sometimes showing up randomly in the text in our text boxes (see below). It doesn't happen all the time and only happens in blocks of text (not the text in the graphics we create). We tried reloading all of fonts in the Times family and recreating our paragraph styles, but the problem continues. Does anyone know what might be causing this and how to fix it?  

Adobe InDesign crashes every time I try to place an test (unlicensed preview) image into a frame from my Creative Cloud libraries. Licensed images work fine (but I can’t license every image I think I might use), images saved to my computer seem to work, and dragging and dropping mostly works ok (but I don’t want to have to resize the frame and redo the effects every time I add a new image). It’s specifically preview images from my Adobe CC libraries.I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe InDesign and Adobe Creative Cloud, restarting my computer, and clearing preferences multiple times.I am using a Dell Precision 3260 desktop with Windows 11 Business version 23H2. The InDesign version is 21.2 and was just updated today. (The issue persisted before and after updating.)Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Hello, after the last post with at last count about 46k views, this is a major issue with a thread that is now missing? Some have said it has resolved but I haven’t been able to get it resolved because Windows Update KB5078127 isn’t available for me after checking for updates (in AUS running 25H2).The problem is that for files saved on OneDrive, InDesign crashes upon open or when trying to save.What another helpful user has said:Discovered a workaround on this, thanks to the help of our support company Air IT Group. On opening the file, make a change in the document (e.g add a cyan square to pasteboard), rather than 'save', click 'save as' and save as over the existing file name > then close the file > reopen the file again and 'save' function should now work without falling over, erroring or crashing out. Each time you open it for the first time, you'll need to do the 'save as' each time over existing file name for it to work. It's a frustrating workaround but at least you'll be

Hello, I know this has been asked before, but I have a specific workflow issue. I have one client document that requires the ME (Middle Eastern) version of InDesign, while the rest of my work uses the standard version. Currently, I have to uninstall and reinstall InDesign just to switch between versions.I tried creating a separate user profile to install the ME version there, but it affected my primary user profile as well. This issue was discussed 8 years ago—is there a solution yet that would allow me to avoid the constant cycle of uninstalling, changing language settings, and reinstalling?

I know how to set up export tags for paragraph styles for ePub output and give specific CSS directives, but for table styles there are no export tag settings. For any manual CSS styles you can add an “additional.css” file to paragraph styles to work out any particulars for those, but apparently not for tables? I’m wondering if anyone knows if there is a plug-in that would need to be added to allow table styles to be tagged so that custom CSS could be used to style particular tables in a document. That could allow epubs to have specific styles for tables in the custom CSS capabilities, I’d think.  

I’m creating an interactive pdf (catalog) so posible clients can check our products, adding a link to each product’s page. Is there a way to add a parameter to the link so it can show that the traffic comes from the pdf? (sorry, I don’t have much idea about that, and I was wondering if inDesign has a function for it. Any help is appreciated!) 

An ePub I created for a client has the following error messages when she tries to upload it. I can fix the date in the metadata (oops! I always forget the order). However, I don’t know how to find the “PKG 26” “Obfuscated resource…” or what this error even is. What am I looking for in the file? Thank you!

I'm dealing with opening many file copies on daily basis and clicking on checkbox with mouse is very slowing me down.Is there any other way how to open copy? I have tried modifier keys on keyboard while clicking to Open, but no success. 

Hello everyone,I’ve recently started using InDesign CC 2025 (Debug build) for plugin development. While debugging, InDesign frequently stops execution in Xcode with errors like:Thread 1: EXC_BREAKPOINT (code=EXC_I386_BPT, subcode=0x0) If I click Continue, the application usually resumes and works as expected, so it appears these are handled internally and not fatal crashes.I also see similar behavior where execution stops on assert-related lines inside the InDesign SDK code.My questions are: Is there any recommended setting in Xcode to prevent breaking on these handled breakpoints while debugging InDesign? Is there a way to ignore or disable SDK/internal assert breaks, similar to ignoring Objective-C exceptions? Environment: Xcode: 15.2 macOS: 13.x InDesign SDK: CC 2025 InDesign: Debug version Any guidance on best practices for debugging plugins with the Debug build of InDesign—especially regarding breakpoints and asserts—would be greatly appreciated.Thank you.

Originally posted this on Jan 21 and post has disappeared likely due to the migration:I have the latest update 21.1 and ever since I have been having issues converting pages to PDF from a file I am creating using InDesign. When I try to convert certain pages to PDF, it either will create the PDF but it is corrupt and when I try to create the PDF again, it says there is a background task running and that task is preventing me from doing anything else. Ultimately, I have to End Task and restart the program. It will work for a bit then I will have the same issue again. This is happening daily. I have not been able to pinpoint which background task is causing the problem. Running on PC, Windows 11 v23H2**NEW** Since my post last week, I found the issue but have no control over it. I always use File > Export within the same document when I export pages to PDF. Constrain proportions for width and height in InDesign 2025 (20.0) is broken. In previous versions of InDesign the constrain-status would stay the way you selected always, now you have to link it every time you scale something, it's quite annoying and adds an extra step to workflow.   <Title renamed by MOD>  

Each update of InDesign just makes it clunkier and clunkier and yesterday I had multiple lag/crashing issues. I am on Windows, the latest version. One of the issues that I believe is contributing is the green Share button in the top right corner. Today it's just constantly spinning. I NEVER have use of this feature and I'd like to disable it. I'd also like to disable the cloud storage option since again, don't use it. I've searched the forums, and while these are questioned in some previous posts, they're all older versions and don't have solutions that help with the newer ones. Any assistance is appreciated. Thank you!

The latest version on InDesign was not working on our Windows 11 systems: it either wouldn’t launch or when using it, text will disappear in text boxes (even though it is still there) and the Undo action only performs one or two undos. Uninstalled and went back to InDesign version 20.5.1 which appeared to work fine until today: now I am having the same undo problem. Tested in a brand new document.It should be noted that coworkers with Macs are not having this issue.I saw a previous post that said this could be fixed by unchecking the GPU option in preferences, but that is NOT checked in mine (it is greyed out because it says it does not detect a compatible device).It is almost impossible to work knowing you only have one undo, please advise how to fix this!

Estoy trabajando con Indesign y al querer grabar el archivo aparece, de forma  consecutiva, diferentes mensajes de error, pero en concreto todos dicen que el archivo está dañado y no puede acceder a la base de datos, o la base de datos está dañada. Ej: “No se pudo concluir la operación debido a un error de base de datos. El archivo “DBTmp222801908943437” está dañado (código de error: 2)”. Tampoco me deja guardar como .idml, lo intenta, pero luego se cierra abruptamente el programa.   Incluso eliminé el Indesing y volvi a instalarlo  y ocurre el mismo problema. 

Hello everyone, I've upgrade to Indesign CC 2018 (13.1.0.76) from CC 2017 and now everytime I want to save a document (new or existing)  the same error message appears."Cannot save the document. It may be opened by other aplications. Close applications and try again. You may also use Save As to save it into a new document."   The Save As option works fine, but for my worklow this is unacceptable. When I work localy, the problem doesn't present itself only when I want to work from a company server. I have permission to read and write on the server. I have no idea what the problem is.   Before updating everything worked fine in the 2017 version.   I know there already exist a topic about the same issue, but it was never solved and its already a few years old. So i thought I open up a new one.   Does anyone have a solution??<Title renamed by MOD>

I want to create a guide where the rows have fixed height, in order to align with my baseline grid. However, Layout>Create Guides only gives the option to choose how many rows there are. Is it possible to choose row height?

I’d like to keep both the superscript formatting and the Roman numeral style in the converted static endnotes.Is there a way to convert endnotes to static text without losing the Roman numeral superscripts?
