Hello,Thank you for this forum; I hope you can help me and thank you very much.I have a problem with the order of the pages referenced in a generated index.I have composed a 340 page book with many index marks; the index generation works correctly, but the pages are not in the order of the book. This is an example (the problem is the same in almost all of de 728 index entries) :It drives me crazy...Thank you very much in advance.Jonas.
With nested styles: is there any way to control the last character of an irregular paragraph. For example, the two paragraphs below are basically the same, except that the first paragraph has two extra sets of brackets.I now want to use only one paragraph style, nested control of the last "(Idealism)" and "(Best Memories)". Characterless styles are applied to the text before them. Is it possible? Or do I have to use regular? I feel that nested styles are rigid and inflexible. This has never been an issue before. My document is in English: USA, this has never changed or been reset to something else. My brochure that I'm designing has content that has already been edited and peer-reviewed and contains zero spelling errors. InDesign has almost every single word underlined in red, and suggests spelling changes to what APPEARS to be French, but by no means can I speak French, so I'm not sure. I will say that this template in InDesign was provided to my company by our sister company in Germany. I've asked them what language it was created in and they claim it was created in English: USA. I think that this HAS to be related to the issue, but I'm not sure. Other documents do NOT have this problem. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Hi guys I have search the internet for a solution to converting an old PageMaker file, so i will be able to open it again. The answer seems to be Adobe InDesign CS6 - which i do not have. CS6 should be able to open PageMaker files and then save them as a indesign file. Thats is why im looking for a kind soul, who has CS6, and is willing to help me convert the file. InDesign will no longer package files even if they're saved locally and working locally. The package process starts but never completes. My files are small in size (13MB), I'm running the latest INDD using macOS Sonoma 14.3.

I wrote the below code to get username + hostname within Indesign. Works on windows but doesnt work on mac. It justs brings back username@null. I assume its not possible to get hostname through Indesign. But can someone offer a solution or direct me to the right place. My goal is to limit the scripts I wrote to a specific computer with a unique identifier. If I can only do it with username than I guess that would have to do.Any suggestion would be very helpful. Thank youvar userName = $.getenv("USERNAME") || $.getenv("USER"); // For Windows/macOSvar computerName = $.getenv("COMPUTERNAME") || $.getenv("HOSTNAME");var uid = userName + "@" + computerName;alert("Detected UID:\n" + uid);
Below are my own notes that I made in Swedish while investigating a problem where InDesign documents, as well as exported PDFs and IDML versions of the same document, were 15 MB too large.I have had it automatically translated into English to help as many people as possible: Sometimes you encounter InDesign documents that, upon export, result in enormous PDF files, without any obvious explanation. A page with just a few lines of text can result in a 15 MB PDF file, even with the [Smallest file size] option selected. The explanation may lie in the document's metadata. Perhaps you received the document from an advertising agency that used IgniteTech's Xinet, and the document, for some reason, went through their software. This was the cause in my case. It was components (programs) from XINET that had written a large number of JPEG image files in the form of base64-encoded sections in the XMP data; even with export and countless attempts to resave the file in different formats, the XMP
Wondering if someone can assist with this problem. Our workplace has installed InDesign for me on a Windows based computer. The QR code generator works well for others in the office (Mac users). For me, it is producing thick lines and I cannot see how to adjust them. The QR code still works but it looks wonky ... more like a blob. How can I fix this?Me: vs. colleague
This problem has been going on forever, but as I'm doing more and more work at the office and at home each week, this has become unbarable. Problem: If I use InDesign (current latest version) on my laptop, and then plug in my external screen, all content becomes "hidden", and the only way to get it back is to quit InDesign and start it again, opening up all files manually. The same then happens, when I remove my external display. So this happens twice per day. Any suggestions for how to solve this problem?

Hi all, I am creating an interactive pdf that needs to contain a table that is currently formatted for a landscape A4 print. The interactive pdf is being formatted to be predominantly used on Mobile devices, and the landscape format of the table does not work well with a portrait layout. Trying to turn the phone landscape doesn't work unless the user turns on the orientation lock - which will never happen. The table is a parts list for various size scaffolding structures. Columns 1,2&3 are the part number, part description and unit weight - all of which have to be kept. Columns 4-25 are the columns that show the relevant qty of parts required for 21 different heights of tower that can be made. Only one of these columns is really needed at any one time.I have been trying to find a way of incorporating horizontal scrolling and/or horizontal accordions to be able to view the whole table. The other thought I had was to use buttons/combo boxes that let you pick the corre
Please help, I have been trying to sort this myself but have drawn a blank so far. I have created a list in InDesign and every item is bullet pointed. Some of the items start with Lato Light others use Lato Black. However, I cannot seem to control the weight of the font for the bullet piont itself, which means I have inconsistency across the document. How do I control this?
Indexing newbie, second question for the day I am using Adobe ME because I work in English and Hebrew. My cross references ("see", "see also") are coming up in Hebrew instead of English. It's not just the style as it's actually translated the word for "see". How can I change this so that it indexes in English?
How should the end of my book file look in InDesign? Is it ok to end with a spread, or do I need an extra page like in the image? What Is standart?
I'm working on updating a former InDesign document and need to change all the character and paragraph from white to black. I've clicked on each style and tried to change the font but it only made a black stroke around each character and when I try to make the text black it keeps it white and puts a black background under it.So I'm not sure what to do to fix it.Can someone help?
Hello!Does anyone know if there are plans for Indesign to be made available for the M4 iPad Pro? I see that there are many discussions over the years for Indesign on an iPad. Adobe! This is a real need. Hoping for something soon . . . <Title renamed by MOD>
Hello, I'm very new to InDesign and I have a maybe dumb question. I'm making a book and created a template with InDesign, the dimensions are A5 (5.83x8.27in). The bleed area is supposed to be 0.13in and when I have made the template it shows the bleed area outside of the white canvas, does this mean that the space between bleed line and white canvas is accounting for the size of the paper or is the size of the canvas true to size and it extends 0.13in do I have to put the bleed lines inside of the canvas? <Title renamed by MOD>
My indesign version has menus in Dutch, probably because my Windows has Dutch as its language. I am working on a book in English, so I want the cross references in the index to be in English. The list of words plus page numbers is no problem, but cross references look like "SSC. Zie ook standard contract clauses." In an English book that should, of course, be "SCC. See also standard contract clauses". Any idea how I can teach the index function to use the language of my text? I know, there is a work around using search and replace every time I generate the index. But I'm looking for a real solution. Thanks for your help <Title renamed by MOD>
Hello. I'm designing a book. The author requested the first chapter have a strikethrough on the first word, including in the table of contents. It is applied using a character style. The Table of Contents (TOC) list shows up correctly, with the strikethrough. Everything in the book is styled. The problem is, the strikethrough style is being applied to the TOC header each time I update the contents. It seems to be taking this style from the first chapter - the strikethrough style is not in the TOC header style. If I remove the strikethrough from the chapter, then it also stops being applied to the header. So each time, I have to select the header and remove the strikethrough style. Screenshot attached, content blurred for privacy. The file is created using a professional template from a book publisher so I don't think I can post the file. Possible bug, or problem with the style that were not seeing?
I encountered a couple of unexpected problems when placing linked content in my document. First, "Place and Link" creates an identically-named object in the document, with no indication that it's linked to anything. There's no symbol next to it in the layer list to indicate a dependency, and not even "(linked)" appended to its name. Do you seriously have to rename every instance of the item manually, in order to track dependencies? Second, I can't find any option to update the linked instances automatically when the parent changes. Isn't automatic revision the primary reason for linking? Sometimes a tiny yellow triangle will appear on an instance of the item when the parent changes (but this is not at all reliable), or you'll see an "error" indicated in the status bar if you look. Then you have to manually trigger an update. Must you really baby-sit every change? Thanks for any insight.
The title of the TOC I've got set up in my document is picking up the character style applied to the first entry in the TOC. If I remove the character style from the section heading being pulled into the TOC as the first entry, the TOC title goes back to its proper dark gray color, but as soon as I reapply the character color to the section heading being pulled into the TOC as the first entry and update my TOC, the title changes color to blue. Is there a way to fix this?Or maybe there is a different way to accomplish what I'm going for. Each section of my document is color coded, and I'm trying to pull that color coding into my TOC. Here is how I'm currently accomplishing that: Each section heading being pulled into the TOC is white text on a colored background. I've made the section heading paragraph style have a character color of gray but at 0%, so it appears white. Then I've applied a character color on top of the fake white to change the text to match the color coding of the secti
Hello,I have an InDesign document with several pages. Now a script should always save 2 pages in a new document (page 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 etc.).In InDesign 2025 (20.2.) everything works perfectly, but unfortunately not in 2024 (19.5.3). There the empty pages are not deleted correctly. The function removeEmptyPages is probably not working properly. Can anyone help? I have attached a sample file.if (app.documents.length > 0) { var doc = app.documents[0]; } else { alert("Kein Dokument geöffnet!"); } extractPagesInPairs(); function extractPagesInPairs() { var doc = app.activeDocument; if (!doc.saved) { alert( "Bitte speichere das Dokument zuerst, bevor das Skript ausgeführt wird." ); return; } var docInfo = pageinfos(); var totalPages = docInfo[0]; var docPath = docInfo[6]; if (totalPages < 2) { alert("Das Dokument enthält weniger als zwei Seiten."); return; } var exportFolder = Folder.selectDialog("Wählen Sie einen Zielordner"); if (!
Hello there, I've noticed an odd occurence recently, where my imported JPGs are doing fine in InDesign, even after closing program multiple times. Then suddenly, I open the project and it's distorted with a glitch/artifact looking image (still attached). If anyone has any pointers, it'd be greatly appreciated. I've tried to re-install the program. I started with TIFFs intitially, then downsized to JPGs. Thanks,
