InDesign

Hi, I am new to using InDesign software. I have a large book with footnotes. I am using the tool Type>Insert Footnote. I have adjusted the Document Footnote Options. However, the first footnote numbered 1 but the next footnote also numbered 1. I tried to adjust the footnote options on the second page to start numbering at 2 but then the first footnote renumbered to 2.My first page was set up as a parent page and then I just duplicated that page for page 2. Could this be the problem? If so, how can I change that.Thank you for any help you can give me.

As shown in the image;It is very frustrating cause I need my last work to be shown there and not the work of last 6 months randomly, all opened at the same time according to confused InDesign. Someone has a solution? 

My InDiesgn keeps crashing when I add a swatch. I add my first Swatch. I then go to add a second swatch and once I give the swatch a name and type to enter a hex code Indeisgn quits - no error message. 

I have set up a larger book and would now like to create automatic numbering to go on each page.I want the numbering to be based on a paragraph style that is numbered using numbers bullets. I have tried to do this by creating a text variable using the running header paragraph style option, but it doesn't work. I can't use the running header character style option because there is no character style applied to the numbering, it is just automatic numbering done through number bullets.Please advise how I can do this?Thank you!

Hello everyone! For the past few days, I've been getting this alert in InDesign that keeps coming back. I've uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign, cleared preferences, and emptied the caches in user/name/library/cache/Adobe_Indesign, but none of this works. Do you have any ideas on how to fix this? Hallo,ich habe leider die Abmeldung meiner Programme nicht korrekt durchgeführt, sodass ich meine Lizenz nicht mehr aktivieren kann, da die Grenze überschritten ist.Die Adobe Hotline kann mir nicht helfen, verwies mich auf Euch. Eine Offline Aktivierung fällt weg, da ich trotz Neuinstallation und Test Lizenz meine Seriennummer danach wieder wieder.Nun ist die Frage, kann jemand diese Lizenz zurücksetzen, damit ich diese wieder nutzen kann. Mein IT-Admin meinte evtl. per cmd Eingabe einen Befehl eintragen. 

Hello, I am working on an Indesign file a colleague has provided and this symbol is on one of the pages. Does anyone know what it is? It's not in hte layers, I can't delete it!

I am running Sequoia 15.3.2 with the current version of InDesign. I've always been able to select a whole word (Comm-Shft-right arrow) and then if I wanted to omit the last character of the word, I would simply release the Command key and, keeping the Shift key down, tap the left arrow. Now when I do that, the selection expands to the space to the left of the first letter of the word, instead of contracting the selection by one character at the end of the word. I've trashed the InDesign Preferences to no avail. Would appreciate some help, or is this a new bug?

Auto Styles is annoying. I have created my own style palettes for years and I don't want to use this. Can it be disabled? Also, I use to be able to copy and paste into my InDesign layout client comments in Acrobat "Comments" that included editorial revisions, and the new content would take on my layout paragraph styles within copy that had been given a paragraph style. All of a sudden, copy pastes in with no style and I have to reapply the paragraph style. This is annoying, especially if I have done kerning on the paragraph previously. Is there a work-around to this? It has really slowed down my production.

I'm trying to see analytics for the documents I have published in the publishing dashboard for InDesign, but it is showing up as 0 on all the analytics for it— does anyone know why?

I insert column break inside the table and later if I do not wantit, it is impossible to find and delete.I have to insert new rows and copy the rows back in there.

I have a large document that I am trying to track the changes on when I or someone else edits the document.  "Enable tracking in all stories" is on, the eye is selected, the little power button is on, the screen mode is normal and not preview... what else can I do??

I am working on a book of poems. I need to make sure that the (left aligned) text running within each page is centred on the longest line. As far as I am aware there is no mechanism for doing this automatically in inDesign and besides, the optical centre will always be different from the actual centre.So I need to manually add an indent to every page to indent the text until it feels centred on the page. My problem is that some of the stanzas/paragraphs run between two pages which each need different indentation. I can only apply indent to a whole paragraph, meaning it will effect the beginning of the paragraph on one page and the end on another. If the second page requires a different indent this means the end of the paragraph that has run over from the previous page will indented correctly for the previous page and not the current page or vice-versa.Is there any sensible solution to this problem?

I've activated change-tracking as documented here, but no indication of changes ever shows up. Screen shot attached. Anybody have any insight on that? Thanks! 

HiSince a couple of weeks, InDesign is behaving strange. Sometimes starting InDesign takes minutes, saving a small document also. Opening a document from Bridge can take a while too. My Windows 11 Pro system is new and powerful (it's eating the system requirements for breakfast) and all the apps are up to date. All other apps are working smoothly (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects). I reseted the preferences many times, deleted the preset folder etc.  I searched for solutions but the most recommended procedure is reseting the preferences.Is anybody experience the same issues? Hi,I've created a simple presentation using InDesign and exported as an Interactive PDF.When I open and test this using Acrobat, the videos I've placed run perfectly fine.However, when I send to client using PC, it seems the PDF opens by default in a browser window and the video placements are not clickable.Any ideas from anyone would be appreciated.Thanks,K

Data Merger created 9991 pages as a result from a .csv file that had 94 pages of data. Now When I force quit it won't open because the file is too large and teh spinny wheel is running and won't open 

Hello, I've been asked to create Interactive PDF documents for commerical use and am using adobe fonts in them how to I ensure i am compliant with the Adobe fonts licencing? Do I embed the fonts into the document and then password protect the editing? Also if I end my adobe subscription would my client need to get a subscription in order to continue selling the documents? Any help is greatly appriciated!

Hi,I'm looking for a way to create a presentation / deck featuring one continuous audio track playing seamlessly across all pages.I currently have a 10-page PDF designed in InDesign, and I want the audio to play continuously without stopping or restarting as viewers navigate between pages.I've managed to add the mp3 file into Indesign and publish online, but it stops after the viewer clicks to the next page. My goal is to publish this presentation online, but I'm also open to other solutions, perhaps Epub. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!Thanks so much! 

Hi, I am trying to place a word document in indesign. Everything is ok except for the text wrapping.is there a way to carry the text wrapping properties in word to indesign?thanks

In Indesign, unable to to change "Number of Recent Items to Display" from 0. The option is grayed out and up to date on Indesign version. Any suggestions to remove the gray out option and to be able to show recent options? 

Hello, I am working on a document that I've edited numerous times. I drop in a new png or jpeg of a QR code (tried both). The files is crystal clear in indesign, but when exporting to PDF, the QR code (no other images) is fuzzy or has a small grey outline round it. I tried creating a brand new document and using the same QR code and it exported fine. I assumed then that the document was corrupt, rebuilt it and started again, but to the same issue. Is it a size thing? As it's a QR code? Surely not, .id can handle tiny, intricate graphics. I've set the QR at over 1cm, the recommended minimum size for QRs. I'm completely stumped!ThanksKim

I'm trying to download InDesign but it says I have to update my sistem. I'm running a Windows 11 Version 23H2, and the website says the latest version of InDesign requires Windows 11 Versions 21H2 or 22H2. Is that the issue?All other requirements are being met.
