InDesign

Hello, I am in InDesign and whenever I grab an object with the selection tool and try to move it, it automatically offsets the object off to the right a bit (see screenshot). It is making it impossible to properly compose my pages. I have tried restarting, restarting the computer, uninstalling and re-installing InDesign. And I can't seem to find an answer in the forum. Thanks

Hello everyone. I use InDesign everyday, and have for a decade. I opened InDesign 2025 v20.1 this morning and started inserting some photos. My keyboard shortcuts (i.e. shift and shift+option) are not working for constraining the size of photos while I resize either them or the frame they are in. Any assistance would be fantastic, thank you.

Using InDesign 2025 in macOS Sequoia 15.3, and I've a new document I just started assigning paragraphy and character styles to.  Every time I try to copy paste a text box, the program crashes and its followed by the "InDesign quit unexpectedly" and  "Sorry, an error occured." window.  I then reopen the file and get the "(File name) may be damaged. Do you want to open it anyway?.  This is the second time I have issues like this with InDesign 2025 in two months despite installing/uninstalling it twice in the same time period.  Any advice out there? This is utterly frustrating.

Hi gang, I just noticed this yesterday: InDesign 2025 Preferences > General > Content-Aware Fit > Make Content-Aware Fit the Default Frame Fitting Option I like it to be switched ON; but if you go back to the Parent Page and change the size of the frame, and return to the local physical page, the image in the Parent-Page-Supplied-Frame will not change. If you turn this preference OFF, the size changes on the parent page graphics frame will still influence the local page graphic frame. Is this a bug?

Whenever I try to move an object or text box with the mouse, a red circle with a slash through comes up. I can still move things with the arrow keys and edit things.I have no problems with other apps like illustrator. I tried uninstalling and re-installing, deleting preferences, restarting my computer, but nothing is working.I really need to get my work donw and this is infuriating.Does anyone know what I can do?

Hi everyone!I'm working with an anchored object whose location depends on the spine of the book, like this:To make things easier I created an Object Style and it moves perfectly.The problem is that I need this object TO FLIP HORIZONTALLY every time it changes to a left or a right page, like this (it's literally a dotted line with a circle end shape):I tried to set this condition in Object Styles (corner options) and Anchored Object Options, but I don't find an way that would work automatically. I got to set everything manually, but this creates many mistakes on the workflow. I would be grateful if someone could share with me some ideas or creative solutions. Thanks in advance.

Greetings!  I created a spread with A-Parent master pages, two pages facing.  On the Parent pages I placed page number markers on both pages, and the "A" marker appeared fine.  In Document Setup, my Start Page # is spec'd as 2, Facing Pages is checked.  Within the Pages panel, the numbers "2-3" appear below the facing page thumbnails.  On the actual spread in the workspace, the page numbers show as 1 and 2.  Any ideas?Thanx,Jay

UPDATEThe answer to this is actually in the thread I posted to, and the problem I had was solved by FRIdNE and I missed it! So, if you're trying to do this too, click on the link to the other thread and scroll down to FRIdNE's comments/solution. Although he's also posted a handy video in this thread!Okay, so I'm sure we are all aware of how ridiculous it is that anchored and inline objects go ABOVE text in indesign... because who want's to read the text anyways right? BUT I found a solution to this here:https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/anchored-object-behind-text/td-p/10781132 HOWEVER I need my graphic to extend outside the text box, on the left side, which apparently you can't do, even though you CAN do it on the right side. Go figure.  What I am basically trying to achieve is this: Except the banner envelope thing needs to be anchored to the text in some way so I'm not chasing down and repositioning 1000 title banners every time s

Another day, another new installation. InDesign is now crashing everytime I attempt to use the option hold and drag to duplicate an object... and I do that a lot.   

Hello to everyone! I need your valuable opinion about something. My client told that he needs to publish a 800pages book with physics and maths equations. BUT all the equations are eps format through Mathtype, all the texts are in Word and they will gine me also a pdf as a sample to see the layout. How does this sound? 

Hey gang.I just upgraded CC - including InDesign 2020. Now I cannot overwrite any pdf that I make. I can save one, just fine. Then if I have to make changes, InDesign won't let me save overtop of the preexisting pdf. And no, the file is not open. Thoughts?M

Hello. I am having an issue where the titles to the sides of my pages are shifting away from the grid lines. I have not moved anything manually, it just seems to be happening when I switch between tabs and come back to it. Its a template of A4 portrait facing pages. Any help is much appreciated!

Il file infatti non mi da errori. Sono semplicemente spariti, come se non li avesse caricati.

Is it me, or does myText.parentTextFrames[0].parentPage no longer refer to the text frame containing myText?

 Hi all, looks like lots of the files are on my indesign layers panel, but i don't see what are they on my artboard but just a bounding boxes. do you know how i can fix it or how i can see those hidden item? Thank you so much.

I need to create a TOC with different languages.What makes it complicated, is that the titles for each language are mixed (see screenshot example). Because of some technical requirements they have to be sorted in this order.But in the TOC they need to be grouped by language. I've been trying to solve this problem without success.If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated and help me a lot.

This solution does not require merging cells, you may need to manually modify the contents of a column that spans multiple rows to the appropriate position (of course it would be best to automate this).  I think this is a bit safer and less work, and easier to implement .The biggest benefit is that only the initial discharge needs to be treated. A specific program：Insert a block at the cursor and apply the object style "point".The point object style has automatic height and width adjustments and has non-printing properties. The content of the block is  "content across columns". From the first row of the spanning column, to the penultimate row, apply the cell style "spRows-none".  Ask for a script.Thank you very much.

So I have a master document, with a Digital layer and a print layer.In the master doc I will have a questionthen in the print layer it has the answer, but in the digital layer, there is a an interactive feature allowing the reader to answer the question before showing the answer. I need these items to stay together so that if the content in the master layer is edited, the individuals layers move with the master content.  Is there a way to make this possible, such as anchoring between layers?  If I could anchor the text on both the print layer and digital layer to the question on the master layer, that would be ideal. Thanks!Wendy
