We get files created by someone else, usually they are 300-400 pages all done in one InDesign file. Many times these files are very slow to react to user input. Planting the cursor or double clicking a word to select it can take 3-4 seconds for anything to happen. Once that's been done you can select text with no delay, but as soon as a change is made the to the file, the next time something is selected it again takes 3-4 seconds to respond. I've Googled a bunch and tried clearing preferences and saving as IDML but to no avail. Recently we received one such file that was actually more than double the number of pages than usual at 926 pages, and again all in one InDesign file. THAT humongous file does NOT have the slowness problem! I captured and compared all the preference settings from that file with another file that has the slowness problem but there wasn't anything different that seemed like it would affect things, just stuff like superscript size and unit
Has anyone else had the issue with InDesign undoing italics? A project I'm working on has lots of movie titles and I'm finding myself have to redo a lot of italics. Thoughts on what is going on here?
Hey, hoping someone can help. im experienncing issues when using the font dirty headline in indesgn. im getting lines connecting come letters at the top and the bottom of text. this appears to only happen in indesign, text in illistarator or photoshop doesnt display the same. i have turn off ligatures with no effect. if i convert to outlines the lines go away so at a loss as to what is causing it. i assume its a setting somewhere im unawar of.
Is there an existing script or a way to hide certain layers in and INDD and export a print ready PDF with crops? Ideally the export could go to a specific folder or directory.

I've configured my ExpressKeys on my tablet to work with my shortcut keys in InDesign but it isn't working. I'm running macOS Sequoia and have updated my Wacom driver. My pen keys don't work either, also specifically to InDesign. Any suggestions?
Why is the text shifting down slightly when I open a doc & go to edit the text, this is incredibly frustrating & time-consuming. I have restarted the program yet it is still happening?? <Title renamed by moderator>
Hi everyone,I've grouped my index entries under several topics in InDesign. For example, I have a "*People" topic that includes various name entries and a "*Books" topic that contains book name entries. Is there a way to generate only the "*People" or "*Books" sections of the index, rather than the entire index? Thanks in advance for your help!
Hello,I have been dealing with an issue involving the way InDesign exports to PDF. In images and boxes drawn in InDesign the black value is being reduced to 95% while the text remains full black. I thought it was a printer issue but I looked more carefully at the PDF and sure enough it's in the image I outputted to PDF format. How would it be possible that the blacks in images and drawn boxes could loose the 100% black but not the text? Do I have a bad install or just a setting misplaced?I am running CS5.5 with all the latest updates on a brand new Mac Book Pro.Thanks, Brett
Having a world of trouble running InDesign. It's impossible for me to work sometimes. I get the spinning beachball almost constantly. This happens when I:• Switch to InDesign from another appOnce I actually get ID to open:• Click any palette to open or close it• Switch between open ID docs• Click on objects or text• Copy and paste from other apps or within ID• Select a tool• Change a colorVirtually anything I try to do.I just upgraded to a new iMac because I thought the age of my old one was the problem. Apparently not. It was brutally slow on the old iMac, taking 30 seconds or more to do any of the above. On the new iMac, that's down tp maybe 15 seconds, but still incredible frustrating.I followed some online ideas but nothing seems to make any difference. One thing I tried to do was to trash IDs preferences but of a few methods I tried, I couldn't find the pref files / folders referred to.There are several posts here of people with the same problem. The potential solutions offered hav
This has happened to me twice today - I didn't see the document was still exporting and clicked save. It created a corrupt PDF file, and the InDesign file was also corrupted and would not save. I restarted InDesign, and tried it on another computer even, and neither one will open. Looks like I'm starting over again. I'm working in InDesign 2025 on Windows 11. When InDesign tries to recovery the file, it says, "Not all spreads can be hidden." and gives me the option to Unhide Spreads. I click this and then it either crashes or just sits there and spins. In the past when I clicked save during an export it I have never had a problem. Maybe something with this latest update?
I designed a document in InDesign that has some interactive text fields so that clients can fill in their information and print the document. I have been asked to make a black and white version, but I can't find a simple way to do it that doesn't result in flattening the whole file or removing the interactive text fields?Any help would be hugely appreciated!
Hi All,I am looking for a way to batch rename hyperlinks in my In Design files. Currently I have Hyperlinks linking every product in a printed catalog to the the product page on the web. However we have websites in 3 countries, so I want to be able to change all the .coms to .au and then again to .ca. Previously we have been achieving this by exporting the idml file and then find and replace in the design map text file. However, when I reopen the idml files this year the same way I did last year they are completely blank in Indesign.
I have a print catalog which I'm converting to a single pdf. There is a 5 page introductory section numbered with lowercase Roman numerals. Then a large multi-page section numbered with Arabic numerals. The layout defaults to the first page of the second section starting with page 6 on the left side of the spread.I need this second section to begin with page 1 on the left side of the spread. When I change the page number, the layout moves the first page of the second section to the right side of the spread, breaking the layout, as shown here. Is there a way to fix this? If I combine the sections into a single one, I can't use two different style of page numbers. Thanks for any ideas.
I'm working on a book and am using vertical justification on all pages BUT I want the last page of a paragraph to use align top. Is there any way to set that within stylesheets?
Stop me if you've heard this one before! I need to convert 30 or so Pagemaker files. (Actually just need them exported as TIFs or JPGs - don't need to edit them.)I've tried converting with numerous online file converters - but the fonts are always messed up, ruining the whole design.Maybe that will always be the case? Or would they render perfectly with Indesign CSx?Anyone running a verson of CS who could help please?I've attached an example - with the .P65 extension changed to .docBTW... bearly bought 2nd-hand from eBay earlier, then read about Adobe stopping activation. Eek.I'm a CC PS/LR subscriber, FWIW.
I have data consists of languages Hindi and English and I am not able to merge that data into indesign even if I put the source of the data as .csv or .txt. I have tried everything. Even coverted csv to UTF-16, but nothing seems to works. I am also using a versatile font family that works for both hindi and english, i.e, MUKTA. Indesign doesn't seem to process hindi language whereas I am having no problem writing them all individually.
I see others have had the problem in the past, but I'm not seeing a solution. When I share my Indesign publish online link to Facebook, the thumbnail of the first page doesn't show. It's just blank. I tried Facebook debugger and it gave me this error message:"Invalid Image Content Type: Provided og:image URL, https://indd.adobe.com/view/publication/12a56d22-aa20-4b1b-8bd0-538304b1457c/1/Thumbnails/Share/share.png could not be processed as an image because it has an invalid content type." (Uploading my own thumbnail image doesn't resolve the problem, either). Using Indesign 19 on Windows 11 x64. Latest chrome browser.
I had to downgrade my version of inDesign to 18.5 (and run in Rosetta) to run a pluggin supplied by my Client. Now that is installed can I download the lastest version 20.0 and run both version on my Mac (M1)? Any help welcome 🙂
Hello everyone. I'm experiencing a problem with InDesign. I want to copy and paste text from one page to another, often copying the entire existing page. However, when I scroll through the page, there are always small but noticeable differences (and I'm talking about text that I've copied, so it should be the same). For example, the line spacing is slightly different, or the text appears darker than it should be. How can I resolve this issue?
Hi Community, thanks in advance for your help! Problem trying to solve: I have engineering spec sheets with up to 7 "list thread levels." The engineers formated the information in Word. We are redesigning the info in InDesign and I am looking for an easy way to streamline this workflow without having to manually apply paragraph bullet styles to each part of the document once it's in ID. 1) Is XML a good use case for this? 2) Any tips to preserve Word formatting when placing text into InDesign3) Anything I'm not aware of, or thinking of that would help -- I'm sure this has been solved before, thanks so much!AE
For the first time we recently received a color settings file from a client along with PDF export settings. When using a preset that doesn't match the current color settings file the export dialog displays this in the summary: Is there a way to detect this mismatch with a script?
