InDesign

IF I didn't rely on this program, I would deleted it from my computer.  InDesign "help" is beyond useless:  difficult or impossible to find answers to find anything.  Now answers to many simple, obvious questions.  <disparaging personal remarks removed>  Unless they were instructed by Adobe Management to cut costs until "support" was a joke that they would not have to maintain anymore.  Seriously, this is criminal, especially in light of subscription raises. At the next InDesign event I'm going to bring a bullhorn and make the lives of all the Creative Pro sycophants who think Adobe is so god-like, as miserable as possible.  If it wasn't for Googleing actual users for solutions, I would never have anything explained to me.  

I'm working on a book created in PowerPoint (eek!). I know I can make PDFs of all the PPT pages and then place them page by page (126 pages) into a blank InDesign document, but is there any way to export/import the whole PPT doc into InD? HOLD THE PRESSES! I found https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/place-a-multipage-pdf-in-indesign/td-p/11343293 and it worked perfectly!!

Bonjour à toutes et à tous,Je fais face à un très gros problème.Un fichier a été validé (livre de 440 pages), donc je m'en vais générer le sommaire. Ce faisant, je m'aperçois que j'ai utilisé un même style pour deux problèmes distincts, je créé un nouveau style et me mets à l'appliquer aux endroits adéquats. Et là : erreur adobe, le document se referme. Je l'ouvre et lance la récupération, et c'est là que les embrouilles commencent. Le texte a disparu. Pourtant, il doit bien être là, car on voit distinctement les séparations des notes de bas de page.J'en ai par la suite fait une copie, un export en idml... toujours le même résultat. J'ai tenté un assemblage pour me l'envoyer sur un autre PC, plus rien ne répondait. Après 15 longues minutes, j'ai mis fin avec le gestionnaire de tâches. En rouvrant, ils me proposent de lancer une récupération. Lorsque j'accepte, l'ensemble du document se ferme avec un message d'erreur, et cela, en boucle.Je ne comprends pas du tout ce qui a pu se passer

I might be asking for the moon... To avoid bogging down while working. we have documents linked to low-res JPGs on our smb network. When it comes time to print, we make a temporary copy of the document and relink to high-res PSDs in order to make a print PDF. The "Relink to Folder > Match Filename but this Extension" is perfect except... most of our thousands of high-res images are in individual subfolders. Right now our individual users search for and copy high-res images (might be 60+ for one document) temporarily to a single folder on their desktops and relink to that folder with the "extensions" option on... Ugh. I found a cool script on YouTube to search subfolders, but does anyone know of a script to both relink to images with different extensions AND search subfolders? Thanks.

Bonjour à tous,  Je suis une jeune graphiste qui utilise donc beaucoup Indesign et récemment il ne cessait de mouliner. Dès que je bougeais un bloc texte ou que je commencais à écrire , il ramait (avec le curseur qui devient multicolor). Et depuis hier, j'ouvre l'application, tout semble fonctionner et d'un coup j'ai un message qui me demande si je souhaite enregistrer mon ficher et indesign se ferme tout seul.  C'est entrain de me rendre folle, d'autant plus que je travaille sur un projet pour un client... Si quelqu'un à une solution je suis preneuse !  Merci d'avance

I placed a .psd into my InDesign project from the creative cloud, and for a while it was working great. Whenever I would update the Photoshop document, a simple reload would refresh the changes into the InDesign doc. However, I had some technical issues and was forced to uninstall and then reinstall InDesign. Now the .psd needs to be relinked, but for the life of me I can find no option to link a document from the creative cloud.  (I know I could just dowload the .psd and then relink it from my hard drive, but I feel like I'm going insane not being able to find this button.)

I recently finished my book and am in need of a good editing and layout program. I'm looking at indesign vs Pro adobe and am wondering which one is the more comprehensive app. Any experiance advice would be helpful. Also, what is the learning curve?

PLEASE HELP. I've been using InDesign since it's release in 1999 and I've never had this problem till after the latest update. My work requires me to be on the latest version.    Hey, Ive recently been learning Indesign and there is load of useful stuff online answering every question apart from this one! To acsess the color picker i understand you have to click twice on either the stroke or fill icon, however when i double click this does not happen! I have tried looking everywhere for this and restarted my indesign but nothing seems to work. Please can anyone help! Thank you!     <Title renamed by MOD>

I have a multi-page table that leaves huge gaps where large rows move to the next page. I had found a script that split table rows across pages, and it was terrific. However, I changed to a new computer and, alas, the script didn't make the trip with me 😞 I can't remember the name of it and I haven't been able to find it again. Does anyone know of this script?  I see many votes in the community for this feature, and it's hard to understand why Adobe can't manage to do this if an independent scripter figured it out.

Hello! I have 1200 single InDesign files which I need to save as high resolution pdf's.I cannot find a way to make a shortcut key to the pdf preset I made.Is there an easy way to save all these files with a simple click of a button? Susan

After extracting the IDML file, I checked the `TextFrame` elements in the `Spreads.xml` file.   However, when I calculate the position using a matrix, I get negative values.   The document size and the `TextFrame` size are calculated correctly, but I’m not sure how to properly calculate the position.   Can you help me with this?     * I am using Python.     <Title renamed by MOD>

I am having a significant issue with ALL of my InDesign files not saving after I make a single change. An error message comes up. See the screenshot attached.   It says I have another version open, but I do not, and I am the only one in our system working on these files off a server. It won't allow saving, and it also won't allow SAVE AS. Is anyone else having this major issue? I can not work on any of our art files.   <Title renamed by moderator>

Hallo liebe Community ich habe folgende Frage.  Ich möchte gerne Doppelseitige Karteikarten erstellen. Auf der Vorderseite soll die Nummer der Karteikarte stehen und auf der Rückseite einfach nur Text. Da es über 200 Karteikarten werden sollen, wollte ich die Nummerierung so anlegen sodass diese automatisch fortgeführt wird. Auf der ersten Karteikarte soll auf der Vorderseite die Nr. 1 stehen und auf der Rückseite nur Text sein. Dann auf der zweiten Karteikarte Nr. 2 usw.  Allerdings habe ich das Problem dass mir durch die Rückseite die Nummerierung nicht richtig angezeigt wird. Die Rückseite der ersten Karteikarte wird mir nämlich als Nr. 2 angezeigt (auch wenn diese keine Nummer hat) und die eigentlich zweite Karteikarte erhält automatisch die Nr. 3 Wie kann ich die automatische Nummerierung so anlegen sodass diese sozusagen nur jede 2te Seite übernommen wird?  Ich hoffe ich konnte meine Frage verständlich stellen. 🙂 Liebe GrüßeAlex

Dear communityI am at a loss here and can't find a solution. This is part of a script which opens linked InDesign files, changes the layer visibility on the documents placed in the opened links.   If I put an alert() somewhere between opening and saving the document, everything works fine. If I remove the alert() I get an error, telling me that the file is already open.  The error points to the last command in the changeLayerVisibility() Function: layer.currentVisibility = checklist[ft][k].checkedState;   I'm thinking it has something to do with async or timeouts. The alert slowing the process, allowing the loop to finish. But I can't understand why it would ever try to open the same file again...   Here's the relevant part of the script. Whether exporting to PDF or printing to a physical printer, I suddenly don't have the ability to print just specific pages. Only All Pages is an option. It's a drag having to output all to PDF and then delete pages before printing just the ones I want.I've attached screenshots of my settings.Any ideas on how to fix this?V19.5 x 64.

I'm working on a book about Quantum applications, and it's filled with mathematical symbols. When I import the Word doc into Indesign, at least half of the symbols (usually in Symbol or Cambria/Cambria Math) aren't recognized, so I have to go through and apply the fonts manually.  I don't expect InDesign to recognize fonts I don't have, but is there a way to get it to recognize the ones I do have and import the symbols correctly? Thanks!

I'm working on an update to a textbook of the usual cinderblock size and heft. A late step will be, of course, to generate an index. Exactly how and what balance between proper concept indexing and keyword indexing isn't determined yet, but it's going to be more or less the author's task (both as SME and as in "I don't wanna do it"). But in looking at the process to offload this on the non-ID, non-InCopy, typical-Word-user author... I can't seem to find it. Everything revolves around entering the indexing info in InDesign — which as author/editor, is how I've always done it.   Isn't there a process to import a plain text topic list? Other than vague handwaving about "go find the INDD file with the list," are there any specific guidelines about how to structure such file for hierarchical entries, see-alsos, and the like? Or am I imagining that this alternative approach even exists?   Do I have to import a Word file to a simple InDesign file in order to do this? Or... what? &nb

Hello,  I made this document last year - 112pages. Worked through it got it ready to send off. Done. I went back in - and "somehow" the page view changed to this (see attachment). I don't know why? or how it happened. And I want it to be turned back to single pages as it was originally intended?. Any help? Hi, I am having a serious issue with exporting a document with about 8 links. This is a critical failure and I cannot diagnose any issue because the task alert is not specific:I cannot identify any elements on page 5 that would be causing a failed export. When I delete the spread, it just tells me that the next one has the critical failure. This is really bad and I can't export my project!

I am trying to right align the numbers which occur after a colon (:) And it would be good to add the leading dots too. Thanks.
