InDesign

Formatting newbie author, who, for some strange reason, hit the return key after EVERY SENTENCE. I just want to remove all those extra returns --ONE PER LINE--but leave the return that naturally goes at the end of the paragraph, which begins a new indented paragraph.I attach a screenshot of the situation I recreated with a chunk of text from one of my own books, so you can see what I mean. End of paragraph is, "you woke up"; "I fell," begins the next indented paragraph. Hard to see, since those other returns make everything indent. Anyway, I wondered if find/replacing beginning of paragraph with an asterisk (or hashtags) will allow me to find all of them after I somehow figure out how to remove all extra ones. Like a command, "Find and replace all hard returns, except when they precede an indented paragraph."

Howdy?I have a couple of completed manuscripts done in Indesign.I synced all my styles and chapters and made the books.All went well.However, I want to change or add some text to one of the chaptersand wonder if I have to re-sync for the changes to go through.I believe that is correct and the same process is used as the original syncing. Does this sound correct? Can anyone confirm that for me? Thanks

Hello, I am trying to align my text to the top of the frame, the lines are not aligned to the baseline grid, the text frame options were set to cap hight, but it still won't align. What am I misssing?   <Title renamed by MOD>  

I wonder if it is possible to create mini cells within a cell just to make a color of? How do you do this? See attached with the grey boxes filled under weeks of the month. 

InDesign becomes unresponsive and crashes ALL the time!!! It is my go-to program for my design documentation, but I am unable to complete a single presentation document without the software crashing at least once! I'm a Mac user and keep both my Mac and Creative Cloud apps up to date, has anyone else had similar problems?    I use a combination of image files (jpeg, png and pdf) and Adobe fonts in my documents.

I shared an Indesign file to a colleague who used the "replace text" function to make changes.Is it possible to add text replacements just by clicking a button in the "review" panel, and not by copying and pasting each piece of modification?Best regards,

I have a text frame and I want to move the ruler origin to the top left coordinates of the textframe. i.e move the zero mark to Top Left side of the text frame. Bonjour, je souhaite supprimer la partie "Polices récemment utilisées" dans le menu déroulant Polices de Indesign afin, je l'espère, d'atteindre la position de la police sélectionnée dans l'ordre alphabétique. Tout cela pour faire mes recherches de début de projet en faisant un tour complet de mes polices. En effet, ce "Polices récemment utilisées" me ramène toujours en haut de la liste charge à moi de retouver la police sélesctionnée et les suivantes à tester. Il doit y avoir un endroit pour configurer cela, le menu déroulant de d'illustrator est conforme à mes attentes, mais je ne trouve pas comment faire… Merci 

I was working on my design portfolio when Indesign suddenly crashed. Although my file is saved on the creative cloud, every time I try to open it, Indesign crashes straightaway (this happens only with this file). Then I tried to download the file from the cloud, however, an error occurred each time so it won't download at all. It says that my file is 700mb so I'm sure everything is still there. Can someone please help me as the file is for my uni assignment? Thanks!

I am working on a little book with my friend. I used Adobe Illustrator to make the cover and in the pricess of working with InDesign to make the book. I am new to KDP book formatting, but have used these programs before - there is so much murky information out there its a bit overwhelming.  I was hoping to receive some help to make sure that I am starting out with the right dimensions/template for the print version interior pages of the book.  Interior pages: Black and White only with no bleed. (Small black and white images at each chapter.)  Paperback trim size: 5 x 7.5 inches (custom size)Page Count: 24-150 pagesInside margins: 0.5 inchesOutside margins: 0.5 inches  Also posting here the document size etc.  Also any free resources to learn about this process (design with Acrobat programs to publish with Amazon for both print and ebook) would be awesome - it has been a steep learning curve for sure.  Thanks so much! 

Hello!I put a multi-author anthology together last month and using tutorials got it so that one of my Master page types always took the author name from "Section" on the right-hand page header. I am not sure what that tutorial was, I seem to have lost it. Now, I have deleted an extra page that was occurring halfway through, and although I've successfully applied the right master pages everywhere after the subsequent pages got shuffled forward, the first instance of the master page in each story now has the wrong author name. I need to change what sections apply to ehich pages, but I'm not sure where to do this. Can anyone help please?

Is there a script to set all columns of a table at once to a specified width value?I have almost 50 tables with column widths that need to be adjusted to the same value.I can only use the align to reference line method for now, as too many is quite time consuming.It would be nice to have a script to set it.It can set how many columns there are and specify the width of each column.Thank you.

Hello everyone,I recently upgraded to Indesign 2023 (v. 18.1) and I can not scale the user interface in the Preferences menu because the slider is greyed out. I know I should try downscaling the resolution of my monitor but it did not work. Is there anyone who found a fix? Thanks for any kind of help!

Hi, I open an old document, and the font is open. When I copy a text box into a new document, the font is no longer open.Also, if I make a save as of my first document and reopen it, the font is not open.Could it be because my initial document is 2017 and my new ones are 2018?I tried to save in idml but it does not change anything.Forgive my spelling mistakes, English is not my first language.Thank you

Hi there,   as in the topic I've been trying to publish a document using short videos, that seem to be correctly put on the page, also they're all h.264 kodeq with mp4 format so it should be fine, but once published it won't work online.  Altough it works in Adobe Acrobat.   2 errors show up: 1. on the media panel saying (that's my own translation since I'm using the app in polish): "interactive pdf might not support elements steering the playback of audio and video".   2. This is an error poping next to sharing option saying (again it's my own translation):"Interactive elements, such as buttons, forms, animations, audio, video, MSO objects, and page transitions are currently not supported".   Did anyone came across this?   help! 🙂   <Title renamed by MOD>  

I have an indd book (11 sections) that was produced for print. I would like to convert to fixed format ePub displaying as spreads (facing pages - single page beginning and end is okay).  It looks like I would need to change document setup to Facing Pages first, but my layouts and images shift when I do that.  How can I avoid that? And should I export the entire book (700 pages) to ePUB all at once or by chapters?   <Title renamed by moderator>

Oh dear - I seem to have got myself into a muddle over the threading of my 190 page book. I have inserted pages and deleted pages but that didn't seem to work and now I have turned on the 'show threads' option and my pages seem to be threading all over the place. Is there a way I can re-thread the entire book so that everything threads properly from one page to the next?

If I place a PDF with hyperlinks in an InDesign document and then save the InDesign document as an Interactive PDF, the hyperlinks do not work. Who knows the solution for this?<Title renamed by MOD>

Hello, hoping someone might be able to help me. I created an illustrator file where I used multiple links of a photoshop png to create a pattern. I then brought the pattern into indesign, but I forgot to embed the pngs. I sent the indesign file (packaged) to the printer,  (when indesign packaged, it did NOT include the original png's that were linked within in the illustrator file so the printer didn't have the original photoshop artwork).  For reasons unclear to me, the printer did not have an issue outputting and the resolution was fine. I then had a seperate issue with something unrelated, realized that I didn't embed the images and went back and embedded all of the png's into the illustrator file. When I did this and updated the artwork in indesign, the output is brighter in appearance. My guess is it's because the png is now updated and it's rgb since it's a png, but maybe what they were outputting before is a "memory" of the artwork and it translates to CMYK? Curious to
