Lovely. The TIFF file will do no good. Reopening the file and it all works. PS got itself into an internal state of confusion but didn't know it was confused. I could try to reproduce this, but I don't get paid for debugging software anymore. Mark this as a one-off until others complain. It doesn't matter which tool I use, I can no longer make changes to the image. I started with 8 stacked images and aligned them. Next, I duplicated the layers, de-selected the originals and then blended the copies. That was the end of my ability to change the image. I cannot paint on any layer or layer mask, even newly created ones. Same for healing brushes. And filters. Solid color layer. Anything. It has become immutable. I've saved it as a 4GB TIFF, if anyone at Adobe wants a peek. Oh, the layers are all 100% visible and normal and I did reset my brush, just in case. No go.

Unfortunately, the "Adobe ID" isn't the one I remembered it being. It has been several months since I last logged in. I've remained logged in until this latest update decided I had to login again. The IDs that I remember all say that I don't have a paid up subscription. I do. I need to talk to a real person, but this web site keeps sending me around in circles teasing me with hints that a real person is just around the corner. Too many corners now, so now what?

That is actually not possible. Adobe uses a service called, "Get Satisfaction" to manage their bug reports. *AFTER* logging in and filling out their form, I'm asked to login again. If I do so and try to submit the bug, it asks me to login again. If I do so and try to submit the bug, it .... So, either and Adobe employee sees it here and submits a bug on my behalf, or it perforce goes unreported. Or else, Adobe needs to choose another vendor. (Hint: Bugzilla works great, and it's even free.)

The solution is for Adobe to fix the issue. The workaround is to, in fact, right click the task bar LR and select the "go to the running program" menu item. After that, it works normally.

Since I've learned that LR has some fatal import flaws when running full screen, I decided to move it off of Desktop#1. Now when I click on the LR in the task bar, it goes to the new desktop, fine and dandy. 1/4 of a second later, I get thrown over to the original desktop. I am unable to do much during my 1/4 second visit to the LR desktop. It looks like I'll have to kill the program from the hover-over menu in the task bar and then restart LR once I am in the desired desktop. Since LR is not full screen this time, am I nevertheless still facing a 5K screen problem?

OK. In that case I can say I am very disgusted. Apple sells a heck of a lot of iMacs to people (like me) who only have them to edit photos. That's a long way of saying that Adobe has clout with Apple. They need to get their collective acts together and fix the problem. Meanwhile, *ADOBE* is responsible for making it abundantly clear that they do not handle 5K screens very well, so its clients would be better off not going into full screen. That reminds me, Photoshop already has full screen disabled. Maybe Lightroom should do the same thing. Surely *THAT* kind of workaround cannot be too hard to do. It would make obvious the need for Apple/Adobe to put some engineers onto the problem.

Photoshop won't go into full screen mode at all and now I find that Lightroom has a lethally inconvenient bug. Most apps don't have a lot of trouble with full screen mode. I like understanding things, so I'd really appreciate knowing why full screen is difficult. In any event, is there an ETA for a fix? Needless to say, I'm in full screen mode because I want to use every pixel I can to see as well as I can. Dropping out of full screen mode is "inconvenient", albeit less inconvenient than restarting.

Yes. That is absolutely correct. I knew that. I am looking for a solution that does not require shutting down and restarting Lightroom. Some way of telling LR that what it thinks it knows about the state of the file system is wrong and it needs to reacquire the directory contents. I had just finished exporting some JPEGs and loaded the files from another computer. LR was doing nothing else.

I can reproduce the original problem. OS/X decides to unmount the NAS file system. Photoshop decides it cannot save its output to the original directory, so it *QUIETLY* saves it for me in some other place. Lightroom becomes confused on the import request and *QUIETLY* refuses to do an import (i.e. it asks me to select a source, but the "cancel" button won't show up). I go and remount the NAS. Lightroom won't go into proper "import" mode, however, until I shut it down and restart it. I now know how to solve the problem without having to "futz" around. LR/PS are behaving "as expected" except for the "QUIETLY" parts. They put out a lot of annoying alert windows wherein I need to click "don't bother me about this ever again", but these two alerts are needed. Leastwise for those of us who want multi terabyte RAID file systems that are not integrated into a sealed iMac computer.

"Clever". I still have this problem when loading images into new directories, but I'll have to reproduce the issue since, at the moment, it is the .PSB stuff I'm missing. Here I thought the whole point of "maximal compatibility" was to let LR at least catalog the things. (I do understand that LR is only able to cope with a single layer, so when I save them back for LR cataloging, I make sure there's a coherent view on top.)

I specifically chose the word "futz" because I was trying lots of different things and suddenly when I clicked the folder, the missing images and/or subfolders suddenly showed up. While "futzing" around, I tried very hard to remember the sequence so I could reproduce the sequence next time. The last thing was clicking the folder with the items and they were suddenly there. I had been doing that for quite a while. Actually, this time I used Photoshop to collect several photos into a .psb. Normally, PS tells LR "here you go" and LR is told about the new file. This time, there was a process interruption (PS fell over or "crashed") so I recovered the work, but now PS didn't know to tell LR anything. I am now trying to import that PSB, but LR refuses to see it in the "import" state. So, to be completely clear: my complaint is that LR is not seeing new files and directories while in the "import" mode. Also, WRT the "import" menu item: please tell me there is no difference in behavior between clicking the button and selecting the menu item. Having different behavior would be beyond the pale. In other words, if the photo has already been imported from a different folder, and an identical copy is also in the folder you are trying to import from, LR will not import the identical copy. Could this be what is happening? No. Also, "Always maximize compatibility" is set.

I am using a NAS device for storing my images. When I load new images, the "finder" program sees everything just fine. When I go to import the stuff into LR, it does not see new folders or images. Leastwise, not right away. I can futz around for 5 or 10 minutes -- or even shut down LR and restart it -- and I don't see the stuff until I do. I've never been able to capture exactly what I've clicked to make them become visible, but then it happens and all is well. 1. Why is LightRoom caching its own idea about what is in the file system folders? "finder" (the OS/X file system) knows a lot better and LR should rely on that. It has some excellent caching algorithms and won't slow stuff down very much. 2. How can I straight forwardly tell LR to go look again and to do it right now?

P.S. (menu)View -> Screen Mode leads to three choices, two of which are greyed out. "Standard" is the only selectable item. Both full screen entries (with and without "menu bar") are grey. And this is the case for both states (almost full screen and default size).

Clicking the green plus dot toggles between last non-full size and almost full size (not pushing the menu or launch bars off the screen). Going into full screen mode is supposed to create a new virtual desktop with the two bars only visible if you bump your cursor against the top or bottom of the screen. Nope. The window toggles sizes in the current virtual desktop. Is this a new feature, or is there a new setting somewhere that I don't know about. This is a new computer with a fresh install, even before I've taken the time to add any of my own shortcuts or actions. Any guesses?

After reading No full screen with Lightroom Classic on iMAC and following the suggestions, still no joy. I am not in loupe mode. I am trying to get the menu and launch bars to disappear and use that real estate in LR. No joy. Clicking the little green thingy toggles me between default size and almost full screen mode. Full screen mode should wind up on a private virtual desktop with the menu and launch bars hidden. So, is this a new feature or is there some obscure setting I need to fix? This is a new machine with a fresh LR installation. Thank you!

I guess I was not quite clear enough. Yes, indeed, it is correct for PS to say it cannot find the file. Once I have reconnected the file system, however, it would be pretty nice to still have the recent entry still in the list. Instead, *AFTER* reconnection, that entry is no longer in the list because it could not find it earlier. I am sure it is "as designed", but the design is not as helpful as it could be. P.S. For many good, historical reasons, I do *NOT* trust Windows to be free of intrusions. So, I keep my files on a file server and carefully allow write access only to those files that I will be working with. It would be nice to convince Windows to mount foreign file systems at boot time, but Microsoft knows what I want better than me, so I need to double check the mounts at boot. Sometimes, I forget. I do not like Windows.

I use an external file system. It is safer. Sometimes, Windows decides it isn't going to remount the external file system right away. So when Photoshop comes up, it finds that the recent file I want to open cannot be found. After manually remounting the file system, it is there, but Photoshop has cleverly decided to remove that entry from the recently opened list. Except that doing that is not particularly clever. I'd report this on Adobe's bug reporting system, but Get Satisfaction is not satisfactory in their login behavior. I've registered, I can successfully go through their login process, but the submission page will not recognize my being logged in. I've reported this issue to Get Satisfaction, but they told me directly that Adobe pays their bills (implying that they do not care). Someone with an actual contact with a real Adobe person ought to run this up the line. That cannot be me because I have no official way to contact Adobe.

I am glad that that works for some people. Unfortunately, "Get Satisfaction" is a pile of useless dung, leastwise for me. Whenever I try to login, its login manager says "all good" but the reporting form still acts like I am not logged in. Get Satisfaction is *COMPLETELY* unsatisfying. Adobe should -- and can -- do better.

Please do not mention "Image -> Image Rotation -> 90 [Counter] Clockwise". That is way obvious and readily found via Google. That will rotate the image without rotating the canvas. My solution is: select "image -> canvas size" Copy canvas width/height and paste in height/width select image-to-top-left click okay invoke "Image -> Image Rotation -> 90 [Counter] Clockwise" select unpainted bits invert selection crop It seems like this could be made a little easier. If there is already an easier way, then it needs to be made findable 'cuz Google can't find it. It very readily finds the image rotation menu thingy. So does this forum search.

3. When the dialog box comes up, select "Don't Show Again" and Open Anyway - as described multiple times in this thread. Single photos work. No dialog box at all, let alone a "Don't Show Again" check box.
