Hi beta users!    Version 25.1.0 (Build 5 or later) of After Effects Beta introduces support for the Accepts Lights switch in Advanced 3D.      Accepts Lights is on by default. When you turn off Accepts Lights on a 3D layer, that object will bypass all the lights and shadows in your scene and appear to be lit by basic ambient illumination instead, with only base color and emissive textures displayed. This allows for new 3D compositing and effect workflows and provides a quick path to simulating self-illuminated 3D elements like phone screens:    [Accepts Lights On]    [Accepts Lights Off]     Accepts Lights is also supported in the Classic 3D and Cinema 4D renderers.    Please give this new functionality a try and let us know how it’s working for you. 

Hello everyone! Today I updated my AE beta and it doesn't work anymore."The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140D.DLL was not found. Repair in Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 installer. 2. Uninstalling MS Visual C++ 2015-2022 and installing it again.3. Reinstalling AE beta 25.04. Uninstalling every MS Visual C++ from 2005 and to 2022. Reinstalling them back.5. Downloading the DLL files manually and putting them in root folder.(Of course I rebooted after every step)I want to continue working on my project which was saved in ae beta 25x, so I cannot open it with the 24.6 version of it. 

Hi everyone,   Starting with AE 25.0.26 beta, we have introduced a number of new Font fallback management APIs, to help with defining new default fonts, and to ensure that a font has all the glyphs you will need to render any given text.   As always, we have updated the Scripting Documentation, where you will find more detailed information about these new APIs. Here is a quick overview of the new APIs:   Fonts.setDefaultFontForCTScript() This function will set an instance of Font object mapped based on CTScript parameter. After Effects uses these mappings when typing or applying a font where it finds that the font does not contain a glyph for the character. In this situation it will attempt to map the character to a CTScript value and then use this default mapping to select an alternate font which may have a glyph for the character.   Fonts.getDefaultFontForCTScript() This function will return an instance of Font object mapped as the default font based on CTScrip

Today we’re announcing a small but perhaps impactful change in AE Beta x28 and we’d really like your feedback on it.   We are changing the font weight for many of the After Effects UI elements from bold to normal weight. This will make the text in After Effects betas moving forward more closely match the look of the text in previous stable releases of After Effects.   We’ve done internal testing and found this increases both legibility and readability when compared to the bolder font weight; particularly when using higher display resolutions or lower display scaling. We expect you’ll notice this change most in the Timeline panel, but it’s also changing the Project, Effect Controls Panel, and some others. Please let us know if you find increased clarity in the text or if you notice any decrease in readability. If you do have any decrease, please tell us your operating system, your screen resolution, and any display scaling.

  Version 25.0 x 28 of After Effects Beta introduces support for 3D Model Thumbnails and Previews.  It’s a basic feature. When you import a 3D Model (.GLB, .OBJ) footage item into the Project Panel and select that model, a thumbnail will appear (as shown below).      Similarly, when you <double-click> a 3D Model footage item, we will render that model in the Footage Panel.   Please note that the process of generating a Thumbnail or Preview is asynchronous and, as some 3D models can be quite large, it could take a little while to render.     Please give this new functionality a try and let us know how it’s working for you.  - Tom Olsen, AE Engineering Team  

Hi beta users!   Beginning in version 25.0x19 of After Effects Beta, we’re changing the way 3D models are imported into the Project panel.   Some 3D model formats (.gltf and .obj) rely on additional external files to render, e.g. .mtl or .bin. Previously, After Effects imported those linked files alongside the main model file and everything was stored together in a folder.   Now, After Effects Beta will manage those external dependencies automatically behind the scenes, so you will no longer see them in the Project panel. You will just see the .gltf or .obj model on its own. Dependent files will still be collected as needed if you Collect Files.   Please give this new functionality a try and let us know how it’s working for you.

I'm working on a custom extension building a cep panel. When updating to the newest version, 25, I can't open panels anymore that I've placed in the Common Files/cep folder. This includes the default project downloaded from the adobe cep resources github. Other extensions like motion4 and copy pasta open just fine.

Hi beta users!    Starting August 5, After Effects betas will switch from v24.6 to the next major version, v25. We make this switch once a year when we get close to shipping the last dot release of one major version and switch to the beta of the next major version.    If you open an existing project in v25, After Effects will guide you through the project upgrade process and automatically version the project file. Unless you specifically save over the original file, you will have a backup.   Like previous major version changes, After Effects projects saved in v25 cannot be opened in previous versions of After Effects, including the shipping version (v24.5 at the time of this post). You can open your projects in an older version by going to File > Save As > Save a Copy as 24.x.   It is also required to have v25 of Premiere Pro and Media Encoder to make use of Dynamic Link. As per title. De-installing Ae 2025 I was able to open Ps again.

Starting with AE Beta 24.5x40, Camera and Light Options available in the Timeline are accessible in the Properties Panel. Simply select the appropriate Camera or Light layer and the available properties will be shown in the Properties Panel.   Camera Options The Camera Options will adjust based on the composition Renderer (Classic 3D, Advanced 3D, Cinema 4D). Quickly access additional settings such as Focal Length, Film Size, Angle of View, etc., by clicking the Camera Settings button.   Light Options Change the Light Type or any of the associated properties of a light directly from the Properties Panel. You can also change and adjust multiple lights at the same time.   When the composition renderer is set to Advanced 3D, you can also choose the Environment Light Type and then pick from any HDR or EXR environment source layers from the Source drop down menu.   We hope this makes it easier to set up and customize your Camera and Light settings for your projects. It's already been a while since the beta with OCIO got introduced. I'm really happy with it's implementation but it's not perfect yet. There are some serious issues that need to be adressed and some other quality of life improvements needed to make this work smoothly for everyone. Here is my summary of things I hope to see improved or added. It's quite a lot and no fancy pictures so bear with me! 1. OCIO 2.x Display Transformed exportsThis is probably the most important one to adress. With OCIO v2.x configs the ACES display view transforms are separated from the colorspaces. This design is a good step forward because it removes the need to list all the viewing conditions paired with every display space as it's own unique color space inside the list itself (making the list unnecessarily long) and can be it's own list for the viewer. Problem:What "breaks" here is that whenever we have the desire to send off tonemapped exports for review we can't bake the view in. Hi everyone,   Starting with AE 24.4.0.24 beta, we have introduced a number of miscellaneous Font management APIs which we hope will be super interesting to some of you who have more refined workflows around Fonts - we created them to help our internal testing, and decided to expose them to Beta following your feedback.   As always, we have updated the Scripting Documentation, where you will find more detailed information about these new APIs. Here is a quick overview of the new APIs:   app.fonts.fontsDuplicateByPostScriptNameHaving more than one Font instance which has the same PostScript name can lead to surprises when the Font instance you thought you were going to get was not the one the FontServer handed back. Earlier releases of After Effects were prone to crash in this state and one of the focuses of the last year of FontServer work was to make this situation work.   Simply use the TextDocument.font API to select a Font by PostScript name is problematic

effects panel stops responding after 2 -3 clicks ,refreshing the workspace or refreshing the list doesn't help

For a very long time now, After Effects has used a sort order in the Project Panel that hasn't always sorted files containing numbers in an expected way. We are making a change today, starting with the AE Beta 23.4x18 release, that switches the sort order to a more expected case insensitive sort order that will work better for names containing numbers.   Please give it a go and let us know if this is better for you or if you prefer the previous sorting method. 

Dropped an imported 3D object in to AR beta. I can animate it, drop effects on it, but when it comes to rendering it doesnt appear. Even PNGs dont work!?!?

It'd be nice, when I drag a guide onto my comp then right-click it to specify its precise location, to be able to specify, instead of pixels, its position as a percentage from the top-left corner; i.e. on a 1920px wide comp, if I dragged out a guide, I could set it to "50%". Currently it sets its position to 50pixels.

I’m curious about the ongoing development mentioned: "Fixes a crash when running a very long script. IN DEVELOPMENT. Prevents switching of hardware accelerated views, which was causing a crash when running long scripts." Will this update address the issue with ProRes Raw not working properly in After Effects on Windows, especially after applying effects or doing significant work on ProRes Raw files? Regular ProRes file types work fine in After Effects, but ProRes Raw has been problematic. I’ve worked with support multiple times, but they couldn’t resolve it and said it’s a known issue. However, I haven't found any official documentation about this problem—only reports from users in several forums.  

Rotobrush can now take advantage of pre-existing propagated frames when performing the Freeze process.   Our internal testing indicates Freeze is now 1.6x to 5.8x faster to complete. Performance results can vary depending on platform, OS version, and GPU. Older GPUs will see the biggest performance gains. Version 24.5x4 of After Effects Beta introduces support for two new 3D features in the Advanced 3D renderer: shadow catchers and shadow colors.   Shadow catchers are 3D layers that “catch” shadows cast by 3D models but are otherwise transparent. They’re a great way to make a 3D model look like it’s part of a 2D video or image.   Beta users can also customize a shadow’s color tint and opacity for a more realistic composite. Color can be set per-layer rather than per-light, which makes it possible to do things like cast pink-toned shadows on a model while the model casts blue shadows onto the ground. Shadow Color also works with shadow catchers.      Getting Started Shadow catchers and shadow colors work with any 3D layer that can accept shadows using the Advanced 3D renderer. The Accepts Shadows and Shadow Color properties can be found under Compositing Options for 3D model layers and Material Options for native AE 3D layers (3D text, shapes, solids).   To

Starting with Beta build, AE 23.0x11, H.264 is now available as an option in the Output Module Settings dialog allowing you to encode to H.264 directly from the AE Render Queue.     This integration utilizes the Adobe Media Encoder (AME) UI along with AME’s backend encoding system all without leaving After Effects. We have also included 3 H.264 presets to get you started.   If you need more control, you can customize the H.264 settings by clicking on a Format Options button in the Output Module Settings dialog. Not every option that is available in AME is exposed inside AE, and some settings such as resolution, frame rate, color management, are still set from AE’s Render Settings or Output Module Settings, but there should be enough to tweak for most users.   H.264 export also supports both Hardware and Software Encoding modes. LUT processing in After Effects now has the option to use a more precise calculation method called Tetrahedral interpolation. The result is smoother gradients and better-looking results when applying LUTs.  The old method is called Trilinear and is still available. This option can be found in the Project Settings.   Below is an extreme example for illustrative purposes:    ORIGINAL:  Your basic ramp . . .       TRILINEAR (old method):  Notice the severe banding.  This occurs when you have smooth gradients and the LUT doesn’t have enough precision to handle the small steps.  In practical terms, outdoor shots with a blue sky are a good example of smooth gradients that you see often.       TETRAHEDRAL (new method):  Notice the smooth gradient.  Tetrahedral uses a superior method to interpolate values in between the steps, so even with a low precision LUT, you get ver
