Hello, I have created a DITA concept document using structured xml FM 2022. I have downloaded JRE, however I cannot publish HMTL.  Questions- If I have a third party published do I even need to see the HTML output?  I will be supplying them with dita xml files. Can anyone point me to some instructions for applying styles (for PDF output) when authoring in structured xml.   There must be a way to produce the tagged data and make a nice PDF from the same file.   thanks very much keli  

FM2017.0.6.798Structured FM (not XML/Dita)I have an element with autonumbering of <n+>. n is set to 1 at the start of the document. I have a scenario where, when the autonumbering reaches a certain number, I want to change the numbering format, e.g. when the autonumbering reaches 20, I want to change the autonumbering formation to (Warning - High Count) <n+>.  I can't find a way to count the number of instances of the element itself, only the ancestors (of which there will always only be one in the whole document). All instances of the element is on the same level, so doing a level count doesn't work either.  Is this possible?

Hi all, I can find most Console messages in 17\consfile.txt. However, XML parser messages are written to the Console but on the consfile.txt file. Does anyone know if these messages are written to a file, as well as the Console? Thanks.

I'm mystified. I have an FM topic that lists a series of error code tables. It's organized something like this: Heading level 1Body text for description of the multiple error code tables to followHeading level 2 (1st category name for error codes, followed by the anchor mark, aka, upside down T)Table 1Heading level 2 (2nd category name for error codes, folowed by the anchor mark)Table 2Heading level 2 (3rd category name for error codes, folowed by the anchor mark)Table 3 ...... and so forth. The problem lives here in this section:Heading level 1Body text for description of what follows[MASSIVE GAP ON FIRST PAGE]Heading level 2 (begins the next page)Table 1 I've read numerous forum entries and watched a few videos, and I'm still baffled by the fact that I can't simply bring that first Heading Level 2 up beneath the body text below the heading level 1 and remove that gap on the first page (which, as I've said, leaves the first page empty except for the heading 1 and text.

I'm having few issues that I hope to resolve...1. I can't produce a PDFx1a2001 from FrameMaker without it giving me errors that "Annotations were found inside the BleedBox, TrimBox, or ArtBox on the following pages"... and it's practically every page in the document because there's an extensive linked index and a lot of cross-references. We are only concerned with printing to a digital press at the moment, so I'm not concerned with linked references for the print version. It would be nice to understand why this is an issue though, so when the online version goes live it will be interactive. (And I won't have to create a separate PDF for online... although that wouldn't be a tragedy if it comes to that.)2. Depending on the distiller settings I use, I get missing font errors (Times New RomanPS MT and Times New RomanPS Italic MT) even though I have the fonts installed and Distiller has the folders in the Font Locations. Hello, I received a FrameMaker book that will be translated from English to Arabic. This is new for me. I am working with RTL languages in InDesign, but never in FrameMaker. My knowledge of FrameMaker is not great. Most of the projects I worked on required simple formatting, cleaning nothing too complicated. I noticed that FM has support for RTL languages. I noticed that I have an option to set the direction of a paragraph from LTR to RTL. Does it have an option for characters? As I read in a post on this forum, in order to fix ©Apple CarPlay to read Apple CarPlay© I need to insert RTL markers followed by LTR markers.  What are they? Where are they located? In InDesign, I simply select the Latin text and set it to read and write LTR. How do I set the book and/or each chapter document to read from LTR to RTL? In InDesign, I press CTRL+SHIFT+P, select RTL reading order, and the document is set for RTL language. All columns, headers, and footers are set for RTL. I

Hello Guys, I have generated an HTML5 but the indentation, as well as the font of some paragraphs, are different from the rest of the document. Is there any particular reason for this inconsistency? In the FM document, everything looks the same... Thanks

FM 17.0.6.798Structured FM (saving as .fm not .xml) Is it possible to generate a List of Footnotes in a book? I have several footnotes in a FM book and would like to generate list of all footnotes and the pages they appear on, similar to  a TOC or Index. I tried using the List of Elements & Paragraphs, selecting the Element I use to insert Footnotes,  but all I got was a blank document.

I have been working on developing a template which allows the user to work with a List of Effective Pages. This feature is essential in many types of documentation. Lists, however, are not exported as HTML5. Some lists are, in a sense, exported , like the TOC and the Index, but a list of figures, tables etc will not appear in the HTML5 publishing output. I believe this is unfortunate and it makes HTML5 publishing a poor option in many scenarios.  Can it be fixed? Beyond workarounds like pasting the document into other documents and similar "magic"?    

I've spent the last week making revisions to my 50k+ manuscript (Book) in Framemaker, using the Track Text Edits function turned on, saving each document within the manuscript before closing it. When I opened the manuscript  (Book) today, all of my changes are gone and Tract Text Edits is turned off. Where I inserted text, it now shows as blank lines in the document.Any way to recover the changes, or have I just lost a weeks' worth of revisions?

When writing my manuscript (I use FM to write my fiction novels), I sometimes add comments for myself in the side heads. These comments can sometimes be fairly long - too long to fit nicely into the width of the side head. As en example (the text is in Afrikaans, in case you were wondering 😊):I'm using Structured FrameMaker, so the Structure view for the above example looks like this:The EditorComment relates to the first Paragraph only, but because of the length of the EditorComments text, it pushes the text below the Paragraph beginning with "Iets wat Rudi gesê..." down the page. Is there a way to have the text in the side heads rotated vertically instead? The EditorComment is specific to the Paragraph, and can appear anywhere (and multiple times) on the page, so having a text frame on the page isn't practical. I tried insertig it inside a Table, but can't seem to find a way to set the Cell Rotation, and when I manually rotate the cell, it automatically changes width to

I have about 20 different Framemaker books I manage. One of them is defaulting to 2 copies in the print dialog, the rest are set at 1. For this particular book, it creates 2 sets of every chapter (i.e., 2 covers, 2 preface, 2 introduction, and so on). In other words, in just this document - Copies defaults to 2. In all my other books, default is 1. I've also checked my printer dialog and it's default is 1.I create .ps files, then use Adobe distiller to create .pdfs.  

Hello,From my FM file I would like to export a specific page to a PDF file. How to do it ?

Hello All,I figured I would ask this question and see if there might be an answer. I am working on an update of a manual that is about 700 pages long. In updating I changed the book and all the file names to the next letter (i.e. 82932A to 82932B). In doing so, any cross references across chapers were broken because they are looking for the source document 82932A. Is there any way to update these broken cross references without doing them one by one by just updating the source document name? I even saw in Find & Replace you can search for unresolved cross references by their source document name, but I don't know what option to choose in the Replace field to change that source name. Was this something I could have done when I started creating the updated version?  Thank you so much. 

Hi all,Using FrameMaker version 17.05.725.I have been using lists of tables and lists of figures for ages with FrameMaker and PDF, and it works fine as long as you read the manuals in Adobe Acrobat or Reader.Now one of my colleagues brought to my attention that when you open the pdf in a browser and click in the list of figures (or tables), the figure or table is not visible on the resulting page ☹ The figure or table title is placed at the very top of the page, and since I have my titles below the figures/tables, the figure or table is not visible.Have any of you experienced this, and/or do you have an idea what I can do about it, except place the titles above the figures or tables (which I don't think looks right...)?Thanks for any help,BR Christiane

Didn't have time to capture the error message, which basically said an unrecoverable error occurred and FrameMaker had to quit. My file was saved as "filename.fm.492." It is 0 bytes in size. File cannot be opened, even if I remove the "492" appendage. Not too big of a deal. I lost about an hour of work. Has anyone else experienced this error with FrameMaker 2022 unstructured?

The team I am on is upgrading from Structured FrameMaker 11 to Structured FrameMaker 2022. There is an issue with line breaks being inserted after importing an xml file via FM 2022. I think that this may have something to do with the new ‘Last Line Right’ feature that has been added to FM2022, but have not been able to resolve it:   In the following example, line breaks are embedded above paragraphs, which should not be there, and are not there when importing into FM 11:   It appears to be occurring in the XML when a tag that is embedded in another tag have no data between them. Hi team, I work in FM 2022, but my teammate works in FM 2017. I saved my book as MIF files, but she is still unable to open my project. Did I have to save each chapter separately as a MIF file? But I couldn't find such option. Please share your experience.Thank you,Mariya

Hi, I am having issues with a file in my book. Everytime I try to print to PDF I get this error message:  However, I didn't insert a Mini-TOC in this file and when I go to Insert>Table of Contents> Delete Mini-TOC is disabled. Any idea why this could be happening? Do I just create the file from scratch again?   Thank you!

Hello,First I have created a new document with these settings : So it created a document with one single page. Then I have done File/Import/File and chosen a Word document.So I have imported the Word document inside the FM document.Problem : FM has imported the Word document inside the FM document but with facing pages (instead of single pages). Why ?
