In my strucutured document, I have a ChapterTitle element with conditional formatting:If the 'ChapterType' Attribute = "Prologue", the Autonumbering is "Prologue".If the 'ChapterType' Attribute = "Epilogue", the Autonumbering is "Epilogue".If the 'ChapterType' Attribute = "Chapter", the Autonumbering is "Chapter <$Chapnum>".These are working as expected in the document.However, when I generate the Table of Content, the Autonumbering isn't picked up - I only get the page number:When I look at the Reference Page, it has the following:This makes sense as there isn't any actual text against the element. What I'm actually after is something like this:I am stumpped as to how to achive this. Replacing <$elemtextonly> with Chapter <$chapnum> works fine for those documents where the ChapterType Attribute = Chapter, but not for the others.How do I have the TOC pick up the full autonumbering text? 

Hi,I am in the process of finalizing a TOC for a book I'm working on. The TOC is complete but the Table of Contents header at the top of the page is missing. The TOC Head entry is available when I view Master pages. How do I get that TOC Head to appear on the TOC page?  Thank you for any help.Elizabeth  

Hello everybody,I'm trying to create expanding text in Frame 2022 for the first time and it's not working for me.For the caption and body of the expanding text, 2 charrtacter formats have been created and applied.I've selected the DHTML effect option of Expanding Text.When I publish to HTML5, the caption and body are both visible (see screen shot).When I click the icon, the only thing that happens, is that the plus icon changes into a minus icon and that's it.See the attached screen shots for details.Can anybody shed some light on what is going on please?Thanks in advance for your feedback. Regards, Carel.

After years of creating and updating the Enhanced Tool Bars I feel the time ready to develop a utility. Although this could be a script running in FM I envision an external utility: All necessary data can be accessed without FM processes (*.ini,*. xml). I will use AutoHotKey for the script. This can be compiled so that a used do not need to have AHK installed. Envisioned UI There may be multiple FM versions installed, hence a first step will define where to build the TB. Toolbar entries can be collected from existing tool bars: here we have all necessary data available. More challenging will be to work from the commands: The icons are in DLLs and their names are not harmonised with the command names. The icons can come from various dlls... Major obstacles Icons for the built in tool bars are located in dll’s. Hence they must be extracted for the use in the utility. This can be done with ResourceHacker (legally, since FM is not modified). Placing the icons in the UI. Others

I need to put some text boxes in the flow of my manual. This box will have instructions and it shold move when I add text to the main document. I know this should work, I just can't remember how to do it.

Hi,I am in the midst of trying to update a cover page that I have copied from another book. My plan is to rename the title and other information, and add it to the book I am putting together. So far I am unable to access the title in the cover page. I am including two screenshots to try and illustrate what I have. The screen titled 'Python cover page' is what I currently see when I click Body Pages. The second screen, 'Page in Master without title' shows what I see when I click Master Pages. I believe the three lines of text are variables that have been added to the cover page. Is there a way I can edit the text?Any help would be great! Thank you.Elizabeth   

I am publishing a large FrameMaker 2019 book as Responsive HTML5 using the Indigo skin. I want to make some changes to the template, but cannot figure out where to make the changes. I want to change: The "Welcome to Our Help Center" headerThe "What can we help you with today?" subheadChoose different icons for each of the topicsUpdate the copyright notice at the bottom I have RoboHelp 2019, but want to try and make it work to publish directly from FM if at all possible.  Converting from FM to RH and then publishing would be a monumental headache, especially since I am not the only person who edits this document.

I have some loose text frames which are not part of the main text flow. These text frames holds tables with table footnotes. I need to have the table footnotes to start at a specific number. I can't use the books numbering properties. I would expect it was possible to force a specific number as the first but can't figure out where?  

I have a FM 2022 document with two columns. Each column is a separate text flow, so I have text flow A and text flow B. Two columns  - two languages. When I generate a standalone TOC I would ideally like FrameMaker to generate two TOC's. The TOC has the same page layout as the chapters. So two columns with a toc in each column. But I can't figure out how to make FrameMaker generate a toc in each column. FM insists on putting all headings in ONE column. Which is what I kind of expected,  but can it be done the way I want? Having FM separate the two toc's?

Does anyone know how to publish a Framemaker Book as an ePub file with fixed layout. I see how to do it if I don't require fixed layout. Of course, I can save as a PDF, but I don't see how that helps me. It's 400 pages with about 400 photos. I dont see how I can use ID.Any help would be greatly appreciated.Carl

Hello All,I am running FrameMaker version 17.0.1.305 and this morning I find that *.png graphics  on the master pages now print almost black. The same graphic on a body page prints correctly. The *.pngs look as they should when the document is converted to PDF.  JPEGs on master pages print correctly. Has anyone else encountered this? I have only recently upgraded from FrameMaker 12 and was wondering if I accidentally changed a setting somewhere. This just started after several weeks of using the new version of Frame with no issues.Thanks,Mike

I'm outputting HTML5 from a large unstructrued Framemaker document. The file names in the output are based on the headings in the Frame doc, some of which are very long. These long file names are causing problems when the HTML5 output is added to the product build. (It would be a significant effort to rename all the long headings at this point and there's no budget for that right now.) Is there a way to shorten the file names in the output files without breaking all the links in the HTML5 output? The file names don't need to be human-readable. Someone suggested generating UUIDs for the file names, but I have no idea how to do that or if would see that  would break all the links.Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. My EDD works quite well (at least I think so :)), but I can't solve a simple problem (due to lack of experience).The basis of the document is the Chapter, which consists of many Sections. Each Section consists of many elements, such as Heading and then following it: Para, List, ListNumbered, Table and so on.Each Table has a TableTitle with a simple numbering:Autonumber format: T: Table <n+>.I need the numbering of tables in each Section to start with the value Table 1.I used ContextRule «Table {after Heading}», but it only works if the Table is located immediately after Heading.I tried to use «Table {first} < Section» (and «{first} < Section»), but this ContextRule (to my surprise) doesn't work.The question is the following:How to correctly formulate a ContextRule for the first Table (or another element) in a Section, which is no

In FrameMaker 2019, the contrast between icons of excluded components and regular components isn't very good. Does anyone know which resource file these icons are contained in? (Klaus, you probably know :-). Thanks in advance.  

I'm testing Sharepoint as a potential CMS for my company, and the integration is done and working, but it takes up to 10 minutes to check out a book and a couple of minutes to check out a chapter from inside the FM Repository Manager. We're on FM 19 and Office 365. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a solution? Does other CMS software have this issue? Thanks!!!

Actually not a FrameMaker issue, but a change in Acrobat. I assume that many FrameMaker users also use Acrobat to manage comments. Until a few days ago you could create a new comment in Acrobat and enter text and then post the comment by just pressing ESC. However, yesterday I noticed that this does not work any longer. ESC only closes the comment, but does not post your comment text. Very annoying, when you now would have to do this with the mouse. As I have also a new laptop which could have different settings, I looked around. In the Acrobat forum I found the issue and a very good answer. Thanks to galilt61196587! I open FM and it looks fine. I open a .fm file and it looks fine. But if I open a Book file I see TWO Recent Files screen. The one on the left is frozen and I cannot click on any link. The one on the right is normal. See attached images. Using FM 16.0.5.1096 on Windows 10.

I've set up a series of paragraph styles to apply up to six levels of tiered section numbers in the following manner: 1.   1.1       1.1.1etc. For most of my documents, table titles are numbered sequentially beginning with "1" (e.g., "Table 1," "Table 2," etc.), but in some cases, I wish to number tables according to the paragraph in which they're referenced. Is there a system variable I can include in the autonumber field when specifying a style that will take for its value the subsection in which the table marker appears? Or is there another way to do what I want to do that allows the table number to autoupdate with the section number? Thank you!JMW

Hi,I am having an issue (still) with only saw some of the links working in the TOC. I have checked the ones that work against the ones that don't and don't see any differences. The first three chapters have links that work. The TOC was created by a previous writer and I assume it was created as  Insert TOC > Create Standalone TOC. I am including a screenshot of the TOC.Is there something really not obvious that I'm missing? Thank you for any help/advice.Elizabeth     

Running (Structured) FrameMaker 2022.Our organisation has defined a structured application which is the first entry in structapps.fm. Unfortunately when a user launches FrameMaker they see a home page which offers a high level menu (Open, Restore, Connect, Browse), a list of recent items, and a tableau of Create a New Document options. The first seven options relate to DITA 1.3, and a user has to click on the eighth ("Other XML") and pick our application from the list of possibilities offered there.I would like to customise this part of the home page so that the options for our structured application appear first, but I haven't been able to discover how to do this. If there's a section for it in maker.ini I couldn't see it.Is there a way to promote our application to the front page? I don't want to supplant DITA in the rest of the world - just in  our organisation 😉CheersT

Page previous labeled "This page left blank intentionally" now has text and tables, including a table directly over the label. How do I remove the label without disturbing the text and tables? Thanks!

Hi,This is something I haven't come across before. I am trying to update a bulletted list to add a cross reference and page number. I have a list of three bulleted items that are flagged as Bullet Main. When I select an item and click Cross-Reference, the dialog opens and displays the same content as what's listed. When I click an item in that page and click Replace, the item is replaced incorrectly with the chapter number and name that this content belongs to.  I have tried to replace each item in the bulleted list and each shows the same incorrect file. The three screenshots (numbered in sequence) added, show the evolution of this problem. Can anyone explain why this is happening and how I can fix it?  Thank you.Elizabeth
