My colleague and I each opened the same PDF in Illustrator to try to export smaller versions. Neither of us made the original PDF. When he opened the the file, he was warned that linked files were missing. They appeared pixelated and exported the same way. When I opened the document, I was given no warning about missing linked files, only that the version of AI I was using was older than what created this file. I opened anyway, the image previews looked great, the export looked great. All files in the Links looked embedded. To test it, I updated to 2025, 29.1. I don't know what version I was on before. it was 2024 something, so nothing too far behind. After the update, I got the warning about missing linked files with pixelated previews.Why would an older version see the linked files differently, as if they were embedded and not linked, and be able to handle the file and export no problem?The other strange part is that after hitting up the original creator, he told us that the ori

Hi,I'm getting an error message when I start up Illustrator that says: "Can't open the illustration. The file is locked or in use."  ID:-54 (pictured below)Someone please help! I've already uninstalled and reinstalled several times.

I've been experiencing a type issue...In the past, Illustrator will continue using whatever contextual font, weight, etc. is present. Recently, though, there are times where illustrator will change weight (or font) automatically once I start typing. Is this a setting that needs to be changed somewhere? It's driving me a little bit crazy! Thank you. 

How do I change the colour of the lasso tool selection line in AI? My artworks have black backgrounds so when I use lasso I can only see the selection line where it crosses other (non-black) objects which is rather annoying as I can't be sure what I have and haven't included in the selection.Also why does it slow Illustrator down so much after using Lasso that I have to save, close and reopen AI to get the normal speeds of operation back?

Here's a simplae explanation of what I keep running into:I have a simple document with 5 artboards as templates for binder tabs. I have a new document with 8 tabs, so I select and duplicate artboards 1 - 3 at the same time. In doing so Illustrator duplicates the tab artwork in reverse order. So artboard 6 has the tab placement for 3, 7 has the placement of 2, and 8 has the placement of 1.IT SHOULD BE 1-2-3-4-5-1-2-3 when it's actually doing 1-2-3-4-5-3-2-1. Why can I not figure out how to duplicate the artboards art in the current order??  

1. Illustrator 2025 updated five days ago - all working fine.2. Opened this evening to edit a document but was unable to print because all the printer specific custom profiles were missing.3. Checked the Windows folder containing the ICC profiles - all present and correct.4. Opened Photoshop 2024 and verified that the required printer profiles were all accessible and printing was working.5. Uninstalled Illustrator, keeping settings, rebooted and reinstalled. Printer profiles still missing as above.6. Uninstalled Illustrator, removing all settings and reinstalled. Printer profiles still missing and now almost all colour space options have also vanished. Only SWOPV2 remains (we use FOGRA39). 7. Contacted Adobe chat - agent came online and as soon as I described the problem he terminated the chat.8. Whats happening is Im holding "Z" and using the animated zoom in and out using either the trackpad, a mouse, or a Wacom Tablet. At any point, it can just stop working. Mostly when I zoom in and then out quick. When this stops working, you only get the " Lasso Zoom option. " If you close the document, and re-open it, it resets.   It's the exact same thing that happens when you go into the "VIEW" menu, select " VIEW USING GPU " Now when you hold down "Z" and use a mouse / track pad / tablet, you only get a lasso zoom.    I've gotten so used to using the Animated Zoom of the past 10 or so years, that it ruins my entire work flow. So much so, I've just been using illustrator 2023 because this never happens on this version. I never used 2024 because of this, and I was just hoping it would be corrected by Illustrator 2025.   Computer Specs are  Apple M3 Max64 GB of MemorySonoma 14.5

Hi!I am Pushpendra. I'm trying to type in Hindi in illustrator and other adobe softwares. I'm chhosing hindi fonts but when I'm typing anything it's showing in English Script. Example : when I'm triying to type "वेतन भोगी कर्मचारी"it's desplaying "Vetan bhogi karmchari"I've enabled Indic option in preferences but I'm still facing this problem.Kindly solve these issues.thanks! 

El Ilustrator no me está funcionando bien. Se tilda, no responde y se cierra constantemente. Esto hace que mi trabajo no se guarde correctamente y se pierda. Necesito saber si soy yo sola o el programa está teniendo algun problema. Siempre funcionó bien...! Ayuda!

Hola a todos,Estoy teniendo este problema que nunca antes había visto:No se puede completar la operación debido a un error desconocido. [PARM]Hasta ahora he notado que sucede cada vez que hago click en Menú/Edición teniendo seleccionada alguna imagen, la que sea sin importar si está o no incrustada, y es muy problemático por que lo descubrí cuando trataba de copiar una imagen desde Illustrator hacia Figma, ya que al tratar de copiar ya no se pegan las imagenes !!, es decir, cuando hago click en Edición, me aparece esa ventana con el error, si hago click en aceptar entonces ya se despliega el menú y puedo hacer click en cualquier opción. Sí puedo copiar pero como ya dije ya no puedo pegar ninguna imagen (se pegan cuadros vacios, y eso es nuevo), lo cual antes de hoy sí se podía, pues soy Diseñador Gráfico y estas son mis herramientas diarias. Aún puedo pegar cualquier imagen desde navegadores o de otros programas, menos de Illustrator, y asumo que el problema es el mismo que origina ese

Hi there, this may have already been asked but I have a PNG vector icon that I want to convert to a single stroke image.The process that I am doing at the moment is:Open the PNG file in Illustrator (current version 29.2) > select the image > Object > Image Trace > Make & Expand.I then open my layers and remove any white paths (because I don’t need them) and I’m left with a compound path (see below image). For my project, I want there to be no fill and the outline to be a single line outline. I want my final image to look exactly like the compound path image but a single line. If I swap the fill and outline it gives me the outline of the compound path (see below) – which I don’t want. I want just one line to create the image – Can this be done in Illustrator? I’m trying to avoid drawing the shape manually if I can.    

Hi! Could you please help me with one topic - I need composition from photo that is made with dots. But the dots can't touch. I mean it couldn't be half tone effect but something like that: I need it for laser cutting, so as you can imagine the little dots should be vectors. I've been trying to make composition with dots (PS) and after trace image (AI) but the points was irregular 😞

I am a Day-1 novice with graphic programs.  I need to edit a number of electrical drawings extracted by saving individual pages from the published pdf document.  I have no idea what the original drawing software was (circa 2005), nor how they were converted, exported, ect. for publishing in pdf form.  Exemplar document is attached.  The attached file seems to be one large single-column table.  Using Illustrator, I can select and delete an entire row, but can't seem to get the sections of the drawing to Ungroup so I can select line segments or individual components.  

Why isn't it center aligning?

Hello!Just as the titles says.I know it's possible to do it with S (scale), and that's fine.But I'm following an online course and he keep using shift+c to do that, and I've been breaking my head over this. Shift+c still only controls one handle for me.Could someone please breakdown every step I need to be doing?Lets say I'm with the pen, and just drew a circle..  

Recently I updated Illustrator 2025 to the new 29.2 version. Since that day I can't use the program. Most of it works just fine, but my black cursor is useless. At this point it does the same as the white cursor. This means that my artwork never has a Bounding Box. I can't scale, drag or change my work without completly transforming it. I already tried 'restore bounding box' and restarted the whole application, but nothing seems to work. I have no problems in Illustrator 2024, so I will use that for now.  Are there more people with this issue? Can I fix this? Thanks in advance.

We currently use Art Files 3 to package multiple ai files at once without having to individually open the illustrator files.  With the new Illustrator 2023, Art Files 3 is no longer compatible and they also seem to be out of business. We send anywhere from 3-20 files at once on a regular basis. Working with multiple artboards in one file is not an option. We need to find a subsitute app or a solution that can package miltiple files, fonts and images (both embedded and linked) all at once like Art Files.  Checked out Flightcheck and it's full of bugs and errors. We can't use the AI package feature as it requires opening and packging one file at a time and doesn't not package embedded files.

I have issues with illustrator brush. It's lagging behind my drawing lines. I use a mouse.The pencil tool is fast but not the brush, it's unusable for me. In Photoshop I have no issues.Win10, CC2019, GTX card with updated drivers.  

We have been asked for this a lot, we want a short cut to change the angle of the Arabic calligraphy brushes, like arrow right and arrow left.

Any crazy ideas are welcome!The background: in our team we're processing a lot of artworks in Illustrator and send them to the client for approval. Each AW draft contains a job box where we add the revision number. We keep only one master file (compliance reasons).The problem: some of the clients want to have the revision number and date not only in the job box but also in the file name.The question: after reading a lot here I understood that using a script can add the today's date in the file name but not other type of data. Could you please let me know if we can achieve the following: to have an automized way of pulling data from the file itself (the artboard / the job box) and adding it to the file name when we save it? I know that I’m looking for a unicorn but decided it to give it a try.Thanks a lot,Dess
