Help me diagnose why the following happening – I notice how this image is rendering differently, going from having good blacks to becoming flat and washed-out depending on which page it's on. I'm not altering anything when this happens – it automatically changes depending on which page.
Is this possible? I'm working on a fixed layout epub that has some animations etc in the headings. Instead of choosing the preset each time, I want to include that in a style, so I can just apply the style and everything takes care of itself. Possible? How?
My swatch menu is greyed out at the top. Help!! I am in Dell computer for this...
I apologize for the long post. This may be a how-to question as well as a best practices.I have a project that includes several documents (more than the three in the illustration). Each of the documents includes two different sets of boilerplate pages. They're boilerplate because they are identical. They go into each document at different places, but they are not simple block information. These boilerplate pages include images, several heads, and footers. Currently, especially the footers. By using boilerplate, I can maintain the pages in a single place so that they all read the same, but only until it's time to create the first Alpha draft. Then, I have to provide each book with its own copy of the boilerplate.Because... The footers of each document include the product name. If they didn't, I'd just maintain the boilerplate in its own directory and insert the boilerplate doc using the book file where necessary. This is in fact what I do... but because of that changing footer, I h
I've recently upgraded to InDesign 20.1 running on MacOS 15.3. I cannot find a way to generate a report for my provider when I package files for printing. Am I missing something or has this gone away? I was very helpful to be able to archive that information along with the packaged files.
I've noticed for the past few projects that all of my indesign files are saving much larger than they should be. A file that started off as 30 MB will turn into over 200 MB with the addition of a few linked photos, text edits, and page layout reformatting. None of the photos are large enough to attribute to the exponential growth in file size. For example I have a 20 page indesign file that has nothing but tables, text, and maybe 5-10 images. Today the file started off at over 100 MB, which is still huge, and by the time I finished editing with no additional photo edits or major layout changes, the file was over 300 MB. I have tried resaving the file many times with the 'Save As' option, changed the save preview images to 'First 2 Page, small 128x128' and all of my photos are linked not placed. No matter what, it seems anytime a file is opened and edited it will almost double in size with no way to shrink it. Any ideas as to what is happening?
When I use File/Export the resulting PDF shown in Acrobat appears to have the InD page size.BUT when the PDF is imported into InDesign, the page boundaries are incorrect.I have to add a white background to the page in order for the PDF to capture the page size. I've used InDesign for, well, decades and this is unusual. Indesign file view: View in Acrobat - correct margins Export PDF imported into InDesign: page margins wrong Examples PDFs: top with white background added to page; bottom without background
The latest update has caused the InDesign screen to expand below my laptop screen. I adjust it so I can see the bottom of my palettes, and then if I use preview mode, it converts back to the full screen, which is too large. I have to adjust the screen every 10 minutes.
I'm working on an existing InDesign document in my company with a lot of text and text frames. I've seen this useful character that pushes text to the next text frame created, but I can't seem to figure out what it is or where I can find it. I've been just copying and pasting it as needed.
Hello everyone. I created a script 2 years ago with INDD 2022 (I think). When I try this script with INDD 2025 and MacOS Sequoia, it no longer works.Basically, it creates QR codes from urls in an XLS file and export each QR codes as a JPG with a specific name. There are more than 400 JPGs to do. I've reduced the script as much as possible to find the error... and I don't understand.JPG export doesn't work (I don't have a JPG file) without any error;PDF export produces an error: Error in Adobe InDesign 2025: Unable to export PDF file (something like this… this is a translation of my french version)Any idea? Thanks a lot tell application "Finder"set myJPGfolder to "Macintosh HD:Users:olivier:Desktop:JPGs:" as aliasend tell tell application "Adobe InDesign 2025"activate tell active documentset myRectangle to make new rectangle with properties {geometric bounds:{5, 5, 25, 25}}set QRCodeURL to "https://www.apple.com"set JPG_Name to "945_0" Create Hyperl
When exporting to PDF using a PDF preset, the PDF no longer launches automatically in Acrobat. I checked settings and the "View PDF after export" is grayed out. I tried making new preset but the option remains unavailable. I've updated software and current OS. I deleted InDesign preferences files and created new. Nothing works. What happened? Anyone know? Running CC V14.01 on a PC Win7. Never had the problem before. Have searched the threads and nothing helps or references any recent issue like this.
Hello! I cannot figure out how to get the object (selected red) above the black rectangle in this image. I have created different layers, and the red one is my top (fourth) layer but it still pulls in, seemingly, behind my black rectangle (second) layer. I drew it with the pen tool and have tried drawing a new object but it still drops in behind the black rectangle when I place it in there. I am new to InDesign and don't know what else to do to get this layer above the other one. Thanks in advance for any assistance!
I want to create a data merge document that has multiple price inputs. Ideally, the price could be one data field but I don't know how to program it as one style. Example: $12.59I want the dollar sign ($) to be superscript, size changed and baseline shiftedThe one or two digit dollar amount has it's own character styleThe cents amount will need to be superscript and baseline shiftedIs there a way to take an entire data point <<price>> and have it read my character styles for each element. Some of the prices are in cents and will need a cent mark and no dollar sign. I thought there might be a way through GREP. I've attached a screenshot of how I want the price to look. Can anyone advise?
I have been asked by the publisher to create overlap on all four sides of facing image pages. When I make the PDF the image exceeds the image box and colonises space in the facing page. Is any able to help me stop this?
To reproduce this problem, follow these steps:In a new InDesign document, create a text frame. Make it large enough to be able to contain many lines of text without overflowing. I will call this the main frame.Place your text cursor in the main frame and make sure the paragraph uses automatic line spacing.Write a few letters in the paragraph, this will help visualize the problem.Create a second text frame.Write a couple lines of text in the new frame.Double click on the handle in the middle of the lower border of the new frame. I will call this operation "snap to size"Cut the new frame and paste it into the main frame, as an in-line anchored object.Delete or add some lines to the new/anchored frame.Snap to size the anchored frame and notice that the letters you typed in the main frame don't move: the height of the paragraph did not change. Is that the expected behaviour? In order to make the paragraph height change, I have to perform extra operations such as manually changing the dimensi
I want to find the no of WaxRun from selected text, I have ITextFocus interface which s retrieved from ITextModel interface.
This is me from the future (Not really) and I've only just learnt that I cannot upload my workspace file here. So here's what it is:From bottom-to-top, left-to-right:Closest to pasteboard: Layers & Notes, Links & Track Changes & Pages & Properties, Characters & Glyphs & Effects, History & Stroke, Character Styles & Paragraph Styles & CC LibrariesFurthest from pasteboard: Tool Hints & Preflight, Swatches & Gradient & Color It's also worth noting (for me, at least) that every time I import the workspace, my InDesign 2024 instantly crashes. In this workspace, if you switch from the Preflight to Tool Hints, the Tool Hints tab will not show hints, instead showing the Preflight as well (Or, as it did one time, showed a blank tab). But if you move the Preflight to another group—Let's say its own, just below Tool Hints—then:The Tool Hints tab will display the Preflight. The Preflight will work, but if you double-click it to minimise
When I try to run a Find/Change, nothing happens. No pop-up module. I tried reassigning the keyboard shortcut, but that still does nothing. Anyone have a fix for this? I've tried restarting the application as well as my Mac.
It's early Feb in 2025, I am on v20.1 (current according to Creative cloud) - I experienced the same error with preflight advising missing links. In my case, I had moved the icons images to a new folder. The issue for me seemed to be in the Preflight relink process. It would not update when clicking on the appropriate file in the new location. What did work for me was Step 5 that Abhishek has provided. Open the Links Panel (not preflight) select a broken link Select the relink option on the panel navigate to the appropriate folder and select the appropriate file.In my case, the magic happened, with the new folder recognised, all of my missing links for Icons were found. My preflight is clean and I have successfully exported. In summary Issue: I believe something weird is happening with relinking from the Preflight panel in version 20.1 that needs looking into. Workaround: In the meantime, the workaround above gets me through - I hope this helps.
yazıda böyle bir sorunum var( i have some typing problems)
Hi, I have this weird box applied to my text frame. I don’t know why it’s there or how to remove it. When I am in preview mode, it disappears. How can i remove it?
I'm an author and use ID 19. My designer uses ID 20 and I can'l load the files he sends back because they tell me I don't have Adobe's Advanced Vector extension.Surely some mistake.
I have a doc full of text without spaces after colons, e.g. "Next Step:Organize Tools."I want to add a space after the colon.Terms like "Next Step" appear regularly throughout, and are easy to find; additionally, there are URLs in which I don't want to add space after a colon.- - -So, I can search for "Step:\S" which finds the colons, but it also selects the next letter, e.g. "Next Step:Organize Tools."- - -How do we tell GREP to NOT select the next character, and simply add a space after the colon?FWIW I have the GREP in InDesign book, but don't know what this function is called & couldn't find it... Thanks!
I'm exporting a Google Doc to Word, then importing it.There are bookmarks in the Google Doc, and appear as shown here. (The symbol that looks like a colon.) I'd like to eliminate them. However, I can't do a find/replace for them... I can delete them individually, though.Copying and pasting to Find doesn't show any results. Any idea how to do this? Thanks
