"Can I copy an object and paste it into all pages in the same position as if I pressed Ctrl+Shift+Alt+V using a script? Could someone please provide the code?"

In the last week, InDesign started displaying odd behavior redrawing the screen when  GPU Preview is turned on. For example:When I create a new document, draw a simple square graphic frame, then use the direct selection tool to grab one control point of the frame and start dragging it; the entire screen turns bright magenta. I can still edit the frame, but I can't see the page itself. If the document had other things on the page, they would be completely hidden by this magenta redraw bug. In many cases, just drawing the frame itself the screen is covered with the magenta color while I'm holding the mouse button down and dragging. Once I release the mouse button, the screen redraws to normal view. I can't even do a screen capture to post here because in order to do that, I have to release the mouse button to do it. Turning OFF GPU Preview fixes the issue for me, but I don't want my CPU doing all the heavy lifting.  Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi Everyone, In our organization we use 'PanelTreeView.sdk' plugin to list down the scripts for production as centralized location for everyone like the first screenshot.            DoubleClick-ing on the script name will invoke them to run in locally.Recent version InDesign 19.4 did not support this functionality and showing them as file paths.,              I even tried to build with the latest SDK version from developer console. But it is not fixed the issue.Please assist me on this to resolve the issue.  Indesign version 19.4MACOS Sonoma 14.4.1 Thanks,SathishS

I am very, VERY new to InDesign. I have many pages of text and need the first line of each paragraph, up to the first return, to be made bold. Can I find and/or write a script to do that? Again, I'm just really learning to open the program. I'm using a Macintosh running OS 10.6.8 and InDesign 6. THANKS!

When using  Adobe Word, ready Paragraph Composer in Hebrew, I can't place a period right after a sentence that ends a paragraph, I have no problem placing them in the middle of any sentence; help is appreciated

Hi I have a book of daily meditations whose dates for each day are in anchored text frames. I need to do a search and replace on these, but Search ignores them. The main copy on each page is in a Primary Text Frame. Even if I un-anchor the frames, Search still completely misses them. I have removed all search parameters and am performing the most basic text search. If anyone has any ideas about what might be happening here I'd be grateful, as I'm at a loss to explain why this most basic function should be behaving in this seemingly broken manner. I've created a blank file with a Primary Text Frame on the Parent Page, and several text frames including a PTF on the page itself, and it is able to search in all text fields without any problems, but as soon as I anchor one of the text frames, Search is not able to search in all the text frames any longer, so either this is a bug or a bizarre design decision! I'm on 16.4 on Windows 10. Many thanksRichard

Hi Experts,I have a very specific question.I am using applescript to automate InDesign for a while, but now I got stucked. So, basically my problem is that in the InDesign user interface I can easily insert a group/graphic/text frame/etc into an other text frame with no problem. See picture below:From Applescript I can read out the content of the text frame, which says it is still "test" only, but anyway, I can find the inserted object in the page items of the text frame. So If there is a text frame that contains such an object or page item, I can read out.BUT, and here is the question: how can I insert the object into the text frame using Applescript? It's not enough if I just anchor the objects together, because in the user interface of InDesign I insert the object directly into the content.Does that make sence? Can someone help me out? Thank you very much in advance.Ravast 

Our company creates a Quarterly Newsletter for customers. Employees can submit articles and then productions places them into the InDesign Templets created. Since Microsoft introduced the APTOS family of fonts to their Microsoft 365 Office Products, my team spends more time correcting the missing font family because it's in the Cloud and only useable with Msft products. This would be simple if I changed the Msft Word Default Font back to a real font, but we have over 100 employees submitting articles and ideas. I need a solution since Microsoft is a partner or team player.Not a happy camper, something simple is now comples.

When placing type and adding photos the text wrap will only allow you to place the photo to the right. Is there something I am missing? I try to set the photo to the right and the copy flow stops at the top of picture and continues after the photo leaving a gap. No text wrap on the photo beyond the photo. Any ideas?

I need some help with a HUGE order and I don't want to waste time for me or my customer. They need plain text QR codes with sequential numbers between 00001-10000 and I want to see if there is any way I can automate this in the same way data merging and setting page numbers can be automated. The customer already said that they're not interested in bar codes, so it has to be QR codes. I saw a reddit post that was onto something, but I have no idea how they got to the point where they were (https://www.reddit.com/r/indesign/comments/1b3fdri/qr_codes_in_indesign_i_cant_get_multiple_records/). I can't think of anything other than just editing every QR code by hand, but surely there has to be faster way.

Okay, so I decided to do a little experimenting with data merge, since I don't remember the last time I used the ID version.   I have just spent an hour trying to craft a data file that Data Merge will recognize, and despite all efforts, using Excel to create a sample sequence file and typing in a few simple ones in Notepad++, and trying both .csv (with comma separators) and .txt (using tabs)... I get the "source file you have selected either has no records or is not a supported format" error.   I've done CSV etc. data work. I understand the format and delimiters and so forth. I am checking everying I can think of. Why would ID (19.4, Win11) refuse to see any of these files as valid data?

I used a script called TextStyleReporter some years ago to create a list of all specifications of all styles in a document. It created a formatted new document with all (preferred) specifications of the styles in an InDesign document This script can not be downloaded anymore from the original source. Does anyone still have this script for me or any (free) alternatives? Thanks!

I must have unknowing changed a setting. A text box is larger than the text box outline. When I place a text box to its outline near the other object, it covers an image or another text box but is larger than the text box itself. In the image you see the 'extra' text box size slicing trough the image above and into the text box below.

Hi,I create a list of figures, but somehow, when the caption length gets longer, then the placement of the start of the caption slowly starts indenting to the left at random intervals. Any suggestions on what I may have set up wrong? Thank you.

I'm using InDesign 2024 and created this book for print first then made it an epub. I had to convert footnotes to endnotes to make it reflowable. Any idea what I can do for these duplicate ID's? I did not import the file from Word originally. I manually copy and pasted the text from an rtf. Also, I removed the original footnote entry, and redid them manually, to try and remove any duplication within the text (but perhaps i'm thinking wrong about that attempt.) Any help is greatly appreciated! 

I have seen answers to the question that I have, but they seem to not be my proble,.  My problem is a drop cap that does not display on the first line but below that. I have it set in paragraph styles to be three lines tall but it covers four lines and the first line of text is higher than the Drop Cap.  The solutions offered on this site are to make sure that the point type of the Drop cap is the same as the text in the rest of the paragraph (check) and also to make sure that the Character style in the Drop Cap setting for the paragraph style is set to "empty." Mine is set to "[None]" which I presume is the same as "empty." If not, I do not know how to change "[None]" to "empty."  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Thanks!! Rick Reiman

The composite image below is almost self-explanatory. I am finalizing the design of a people directory that uses tagged text generated from a database to automatically assign paragraph styles when placed. To delineate a new letter of the alphabet, I use a paragraph style with extra spacing and a "rule above" as shown here. It works great when the new letter hits in the middle of a column (green circle), but if it hits at the top of a column (red circle), the rule is in the margin. I understand why that's happening ("space before" is ignored at the top of text frames, which is normally good), but is there something I can do in the paragraph style settings to force the content down so the rule is at the top of the frame instead of floating where it shouldn't be? Yes, I know I can manually lower the top of the frame after placing the text, and I'll do that if necessary. But it would be nice if it just worked, so that there are no overrides in the parent page's text frames that would need

My company just migrated from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365. Our files were once in a Google Drive, now in a Sharepoint site. Both are/were synced into my Finder. I am now having trouble opening any files from Sharepoint that were created prior to migrating. InDesign will freeze and crash each time. I'm open to any solutions short of restarting my computer, uninstalling/reinstalling InDesign, and deleting InDesign preferences. Thank you!

Good morning, I'm encountering a problem in Indesign. I want to create a catalog in indesign from the descriptions in excel. I used the data merge function but it is not pulling the photos. The following warning appears. "The data source references one or more missing images. It is not possible to view or merge the missing images. When creating a merged document, you can choose to generate the list of all missing images." How do I resolve this issue?

Hello,  I am creating a ‘banner’ that will be on an exhibition screen of my work and was going to try using InDesign to lay it out / create a design.The banner will be 2264mm (Height) x 944mmThere will be various imagery / text and some renders I have completed using Photoshop. Given the size, I was wondering is there anything I need to be aware of, particularly from a print perspective (i will get professionally printed). And how will I be best to set up the page itself?? Note I am new to InDesign. Please help 🙂  Many thanks
