Where do I find the Shelf Window in Substance Painter version 7.2.1 to see the textures I imported from Character Creator along with the .Obj fileI look forward to it and thank you in advance
Im new to python scripting and im learning to create a plugin for Painter but I would like to run a plugin from a self contained subdirectory from within the Painter python plugin directory. I dont want to have a script file run from that plugin directory but rather my plugin subdirectory. Ex. Notpython/plugins/myPlugin.py Yespytho/plugins/myPlugin/myPlugin.py Is this possible?
Hello, we are in the process of founding an indie game studio. One of our artists has previously purchased a Substance 3D Painter License on Steam. Can they continue using that license for company work if they are a full time employee or is the company required to provide another Substance 3D Painter license?
so I'm new to substance painter and I don't exactly know to change the texture size in the texture setting, I want to change it from 1024x1024 to 1331x1024. is there a way to do it?
I’ve been using Substance 3D Painter for over five years as a texturing artist and truly appreciate its powerful toolset. However, one recurring challenge is painting hard-to-reach areas such as the inner mouth, armpits, and between the legs, where closely positioned geometry makes it difficult to achieve clean, detailed results.A feature to isolate or hide parts of the mesh of same texture set—similar to functionality available in software like ZBrush or Maya—would greatly enhance workflow efficiency and precision. I believe this addition would benefit artists across the industry.
Hi,At our company, we recently purchased the new GMTKek EVO-X2 AI Mini PC, and overall, we’re extremely impressed with its performance. With 128GB of shared VRAM between the CPU and GPU, it's remarkably fast—even outperforming an RTX 4090 in certain cases, as entire files can fit entirely in VRAM. The 2TB of storage is also a great plus. However, we’ve encountered a recurring issue when working with heavy scenes. The software occasionally freezes in a strange way: the UI remains responsive, but both the viewport and the bottom progress bar become stuck and stop updating. This makes it difficult to continue working without restarting the software.Given the potential of this machine, especially with its massive shared VRAM, we’re really eager to make full use of it. Could your team please look into this issue? Thanks for your support!Best regards,Max
Why isn’t there a normal map intensity filter in Substance Painter? The closest solution I found was this custom setup: https://www.artstation.com/marketplace/p/p39G/sp-filter-normal-intensity Most posts I’ve come across suggest duplicating the material and lowering its opacity, but when working with anchor points or needing to tweak scale/rotation, this becomes tedious. I’m wondering why this isn’t a built-in feature in Substance Painter by default.
This functionality is important since Painter is pixel-based, so when one e.g. imports mesh and cameras from third-party software [Blender, Maya, etc], one needs to have precisely pixel-to-pixel view, same as final render.
Hi, I put a triplanar in my generator to project the output of the work as a triplaner .. but the output of the work is in pixels.I searched the internet and saw some people saying that the position map should be 16-bit. So where do I change the bake settings in the substance painter software so that the output of this process is a 16-bit map?
I've made a material in Designer that I planned to use on a mesh in Painter. The texture looks great in Designer, and I've followed a tutorial from Adobe on exporting it as an SBAR to import into Painter for use. Unfortunately, when in Painter, the texture looks all wrong. I've checked with some experts in other forums. The issue doesn't seem to be with Designer, but with Painter. Tried switching normals from DirectX to Open GL. The issue still persists. The issue keeps leading back to something with the ambient occlusion map of the texture, but we don't know what or how to fix it. Not sure if this is a user error thing or a bug. Other materials work fine. Any ideas? Below is how the material looks in Painter.Above is how the material looks in Designer.
When texturing an asset we often need to create variation textures of the same mesh. For example an npc with different colour shirts or multiple damage states. Right now we need to either save out different files for each or have our changes in the layer stack and turn them on and off, change the texture set name and export. It would be good to have a "variation" texture set that we could switch out with the main material while working This could then be listed in the export pop up as well to be included when exporting textures. That way we could have all the variations in a single project.
can i get some help with this. ive used my student email and its not working. I have checked my email and spam folder and nothing.
Hi Everyone, Substance noobie here. Looking for help with seams. Basically, I am struggling to get the clone stamp tool to behave as I think it should. So this rock is divided into 2 sections. As you can see, we have a seam running right through the middle. When I clone-stamp it sort of works. From a distance, it does not look too bad. But up close and under certain high-contrast lighting conditions, the seam is still very apparent to me. My worry is when making assets that are intended to be large/walked upon, these seams would be noticeable as the player/user will potentially be in close proximity to (or standing directly on top of) them. I make stuff for second life, VR chat and so forth and people can be very fussy about visible seams because you can basically walk up to objects and face-hug them. So I try to get thigs as perfect as possible. Am I being too much of a perfectionist? Is this expected behaviour? I realize I am close enough to the object to li
Hi,I'm currently a stundent in 3D and I would like to get Substance Painter in order to texture objects for my exam project.I keep trying to make a request to get the form needed for the application of the education licence ( Education - Substance 3D ), but I'm not receiving any email. I've tried with other email adresses but nothing seems to change. How can i get the free eduaction licence if I'm not receiving this form ?
‘Sup, y’all. We’ve recently posted a couple of articles looking into the ideas and processes of a couple of outstanding artists: Creature artist Damien Guimoneau reflects on helping Substance 3D Painter grow: Damien has sculpted creatures for The Lion King (2019), Marvel’s Moon Knight, Alien: Covenant, and much, much more. Here, he discusses the dragon artwork he recently created for the Substance 3D Painter splash screen, and the importance of artists and developers working hand in hand. The Way of the Workflow: Unreal Sensei’s Digital Dojo: Unreal Sensei, aka Zach Hunter, is a 3D educator with a focus on working in Unreal Engine. In this post he discusses his first steps in 3D, as well as his recent beginner-level tutorial focusing on texturing in Painter, and exporting textured assets to UE5. And I’d be remiss if I didn’t take the opportunity to remind everybody that until May 31 2025, you can get access to Substance 3D Painter and Substance 3D Modeler f
Hi everyone,I’ve been trying to access the free Substance 3D licence as a university lecturer through Adobe’s education programme but I’ve been stuck in a complete loop of dead ends for over a week. Here’s what happened:I submitted the eligibility form using my institutional emailI got a “successful request” confirmation but never received a verification email or product codeI contacted Identit-e, who confirmed there is no record of my request and said I should contact AdobeSo I contacted Adobe. The support chat bounced me around bots and reps who couldn’t escalate itWhen I try to resubmit the form, I get:“UniqueID already exists” even though the original submission clearly failedI’ve tried every email I could find and most of them bounceThe live chat told me to just “try again in 24 hours” which of course doesn’t workAt this point, I can’t reapply, I can’t verify, and I can’t get support to reset or issue a product code manually. I'm stuck in a loop with no resolution.I’d be incred
After many hours working on this project on 2k, I changed the resolution to 4K (baked it at 4K too). Now these weird lines are showing and I'm not sure of how to fix it. I redid the Low and High and the UVs, started painting from scratch too but nothing works. Those appear when I use smart masks, especially Cavity Rust. I thought that maybe it was because my generator says the mask editor is outdated, but when I change it to the new one it looks like a completely different mask.
Add here https://helpx.adobe.com/substance-3d-painter/getting-started/system-requirements.html list of dependencies on third party libraries, and also when starting, check the installed libraries and if they are not there, display a list, and do not silently terminate the programWhy do I have to run the program from the terminal several times when it does not find the libraries installed on the system, as well as in Steam and copy them to the program folder so that it finally finds them?I mean/usr/lib/libbrotlidec.so.1.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_64/steam-runtime-sniper/var/tmp-1EDZ32/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libbrotlidec.so.1/usr/lib/libbrotlicommon.so.1.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_64/steam-runtime-sniper/var/tmp-1EDZ32/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libbrotlicommon.so.1
I submitted a request for Substance 3D educational access without creating an account. I later created one with the same Gmail, but now I can't verify because it says the email already exists and I never received a confirmation mail also so what to do?
Essentially I want/need the option to further increase the size of the asset icons (Possibly like the substance 3D assets + and - tool).I stuggle with seeing the exact textures, even with the size on large - particulary with the texture maps (eg. grunge ect.) as they all look the same. I know hovering over shows the larger version (Which is a much better size) however I find that this can take time to load which is impracticle when looking through hundreds of textures. Alternatively perhaps a page on the website or a document you can download with all these maps on it so you can zoom in to find the correct one and then somply search for it.
Hi! I've been having this problem for 2 months, I've tried to work even with getting things deleted but there's no way :' This only happens to me when texturing in hand-painted, after a while of texturing, when I want to go back a step with ctrl+z it doesn't go back a single step, but several steps, about 7 or 8 strokes are erased. For this I can try to not work with the ctrl+z, although it is very difficult, but the biggest problem comes when I save the file to close it, then I open it at some other time and part of the wall of the house that I texture is erased, it is erased uniformly in different layers. And with the new update some strokes that I have not painted appears. I share screenshots: I have to add that I have had this problem in 2 different files, and it also happens to me from other computers, I have no idea what it could be :'(. Thank you very much for reading me :))
Essentially, I might be dumb or something, but when painting over a mask, regardless of whether I am doing it in 3d or 2d view, multiple faces that have absolutely no relation to each other get painted over. They have no UV space overlaps and they're not even close to each other. Example on video:https://youtu.be/EETRMgFpy7QThe models are made in blender and also exported from blender.I tested this and it was a problem both on a 2019. january version and on a new 2021. november version.I am using Windows 10, build 19044.1826. Perhaps this has to do with SP's file settings? Or Blender's export settings? I have no idea and I've encountered this before. Thanks for reading.
I purchased Substance Painter on Steam and have been using it regularly. I recently tried out the new Pen Fill tool introduced in version 11.0 — it’s a great feature, but I noticed there are very few adjustable parameters available at the moment. I’d like to suggest adding more control options to the Pen Fill behavior, especially something like stroke spacing or density adjustments. This would help make the tool more usable across different texture resolutions. Currently, the default fill mode produces very visible jagged edges on low-resolution maps, making it hard to achieve clean results. It would be really helpful if the Pen Fill could inherit some of the flexibility of the original Pen tool, while still supporting clean, resolution-independent fills for closed paths. Thanks for your time, and I appreciate your continued work on the software.
