Want your 3D scenes to feel like they were shot through a real camera lens? With Depth of Field in the Advanced 3D renderer, you can now pull focus on your 3D scene right in the engine, keeping your subject sharp while everything in front of and behind it falls into a soft, natural blur.It works across 3D models, parametric meshes, Substance 3D materials, 3D text, shape layers, and more. No compositing tricks or post blur required. What can you do with it?Add true, camera-accurate depth of field rendered directly in Advanced 3D Keep your subject in sharp focus while backgrounds and foregrounds blur naturally Apply it to 3D models, parametric meshes, Substance 3D materials, 3D text, shape layers, and more Get realistic optical blur instead of faking it with post effects Put it to use in your workflowDirect the viewer's eye to a hero product, logo, or title Add cinematic depth to 3D type and motion graphics Create dreamy, shallow-focus background plates Sell realism on 3D model and materi
Welcome back to our series on free After Effects resources from across the web. If you missed the first one, we covered Camera Crew by Motion Ape well worth a look. This time, we're highlighting a tool that, honestly, needs no introduction for a lot of you. But if you haven't tried it yet, you're in for a treat. Meet DUIK ÁngelaDUIK Ángela is the 17th major version of DUIK, the comprehensive rigging and animation toolkit built by Nicolas Dufresne and the team at RxLaboratory. It's been actively developed for over 15 years, and at this point it's the go-to rigging script for character animators working in After Effects, used in commercials, music videos, indie films, and animated series all over the world. And it's completely free and open source. What you can do with itDUIK brings the kind of rigging tools you'd expect from a 3D application - IK, controllers, bones, constraints, and adapts them for 2D animation in AE. Once you've got a character rigged, you can pose and animate them li

I am trying to install plugins in AE but they crash. The plugin company (red giant) says its because adobe apps are not registering in the MacOS system in the System Information app under applications. I keep running deep clean to erase all adobe things from my system and reinstall the apps. Still won’t register. What to do? AI is no help on this one.
Hi, I animate motion graphics in AE, based on imported Illustrator files. I’m trying to figure out why some of my comps are rendering with very low CPU usage while others peak to 90%. What is strange it looks like more complex comps are rendered super slow (5% CPU usage) while others that has much less layers and effects can use much more. But still even through those lite comps the CPU can jump from 5% to 90% for no reason - meaning nothing really changes in the comp exept some layer movements… how can it be?I render into PNG sequences inside AE.Sometimes I use BG Renderer MAX that forces AE to use as much CPU as possible, but this plugin often crashes or misses some PNG files so I’d rather use built in AE renderer. But it is inconceivable to me that 3rd party plugin can make use of the whole CPU, while native AE can’t :/
Hi everyone,I’m writing to bring attention to ongoing, severe performance issues in After Effects starting from the 2025 releases. As a paying Creative Cloud subscriber, the current state of the software has severely impacted my workflow and daily productivity. I cannot work anymore smoothly with the latest AE versions. The Key Issues: Memory & Resource Spikes: Rapid, unexplained RAM/disk usage leading to lag and full app freezes. Preview & Timeline Lag: Severe slowdowns during simple composition playback and UI interaction compared to previous versions (e.g., AE 2024). System Instability: Frequent crashes and memory leak behaviors even when standard troubleshooting steps are taken (purging media cache, resetting preferences, allocation adjustments). Sudden File Incompatibility (MP4 & MOV): Files that worked fine previously—especially standard .mp4 and .mov containers—are suddenly throwing errors, failing to import, or displaying as unsupported/corrupted media without
When deleting a layer which is being used for an essential property, the following warning is shown. However, there’s no way to do a reverse ‘Reveal in Timeline’ command to see where a layer might be connected to a comp’s EGP.It would be enormously helpful if this alert could list the comp(s) that would be affected by the layer deletion.
I'm running into a consistent crash in the latest version of After Effects whenever a composition requires the Advanced 3D renderer. The app immediately throws an error stating:"After Effects can't continue: Advanced 3D plug-in generated an unexpected exception."I am forced to switch back to Classic 3D, but I really need to use the Advanced 3D features. I've already installed Cinema 4D, but the issue persists. Here are my system and driver specs: GPU: NVIDIA T1200 Laptop GPU (4 GB VRAM) Driver Version: Release 595 (Conservative / Production-tested branch) Application: After Effects (Latest CC Version) I have tried many versions including 26&25
For many videos now I have had a black frame problem in After Effects. Random black frames appearing in the preview window and export. As well as random frames from a different part of the video, although that is less frequent. It seems like it would be a frame rate problem, but it still happens when frame rates are all matched. As I edit in Premiere and then export, which is then brought into After Effects. I also bring in separate videos in the an After Effects comp for B roll that will have the black frame problem, and the frame rate of those videos is not something I have control over. That is unless I exported a copy of the video from Premiere and changed the frame rate settings before export. This would be tedious to do, and there is no guarantee it would work. But if this problem does not happen in Premiere it seems like it is a problem that can be fixed in After Effects. Regardless it seems like something that should be possible to fix.Can Adobe fix this problem for future update
Hi,Just upgraded to 25.2.2 and I am having a strange issue with adding layers its like it randomly clips or switches color space from one frame to the next. Only started happening after upgrading AE and NVIDIA.The screenshots are from the same project just different frames, as you will see it also affects the scopes. Only effect used is 'Fast Box Blur'Switching to 'Software Only' fixes the issue
I've been working in each of the ACES OCIO configurations for about a year now, but there are a number of go to effects I usually need to use which unfortunately completely clip the highlights making them unuseable. Most of the effects I've seen with this issue so far are distortion effects but also some noise/grain effects too.On a current project I really need to warp areas of the plate but mesh warp, liquify and others cause this highlight clipping issue so there are no other effects I can go to for what I need. How can I resolve this or can Adobe please fix? This is before one of the effects is appliedand this is afterThis project is ACES 1.3 Studio v1.0 32 bit, but the issue happens in the other configurations too.
I've always felt that the project panel within after effects to be very limiting coming from a the perspective of a video editor As much as I've gotten very used to it, I cant help but feel it could be a lot better since it has barely changed since I first began using the software. I would love to see something more akin to Premiere's project panel in AE, but to me more specific, I'd love to see... -Scale slider to change the size of the list in the panel and make icons bigger-Double click to open up a bin in an isolated panel on it's own-Freeform view for visual organization of assets-Hovering cursor over certain assets provides a scrubable preview on the thumbnail.
This might be a long shot and I dont know if its technically possible to implement, but I think this would be a major improvement to after effects as a whole. I think the easiest way to explain it is looking at the dynamic link feature between premiere and AE, but from AE projects to AE projects.I would have plenty of usecases for this and I it would elevate professional workflows into new heights.Just like having your own library of functions in coding, that you can link in multiple scripts, updating or adding new logic to the source function which automatically integrates in the scripts where its linked to. In this case the function would be an After effects project that you can reuse and implement in other projects and automatically updates in all linked projects if theres changes to the master project.Reallife example: I have a beverage flatlabel that I wrap around a beverage can with UV Map. I use this Label in multiple projects, since theres plenty of different campaigns and

I'm having an issue with shadows when 3D objects are animated using Advanced 3D renderer and an Environment Light in After Effects. When the objects move, the shadow stutters/jumps instead of animating smoothly, even though all rendering settings in the Advanced 3D menu are set to maximum."
Issue - filling up ram, with a preview render, never releases that ram, causes the application to generally not work. Steps to reproduce - I use a plugin, element 3d, and preview render a long comp, that fills the ram cache, then change the comp and try to work with it. AE refuses to render anything. Expected result - AE clears up ram, prioritizes what it is supposed to be doing. Actual result - preview is BLACK. AE does not render anything. eventually it will crash, as the app uses more and more ram. Screen recording – this is impossible, as AE sucks down all system resources Adobe After Effects version - Version 26.0.0 (build 67) Operating system - Mac os X Tahoe 26.2 GPU driver version (Windows only) - NA Video format - Comparative information helps us understand more about when the issue occurs: It seems to affect projects that use large amounts of ram, and possibly plugins. yes AE 2025, I discovered it in December of 2025. Optional but useful: other observations: Element
I sent a message in the chat and the respose I get was that I could get a older version if my question was posted here in the forum, can someone help me?
Buenas tardes, hace tiempo que utilizo after effects y no he tenido problemas hasta ahora. IN ENGLISH:HiI had this problem in After Effects. When i Import a video on proyect it's look like a green screen in random parts. But this screen appear not only in the previsualization. It appear when i export the proyect too!!I don't know what to do :c
IssueAfter Effects 26.3 repeatedly crashes during normal editing. The crashes are not limited to one project or one specific plugin.I have experienced crashes while using:• BMF Map Ramp• Linear Color Key• Gradient Overlay• Cinema 4D RendererThe crashes also occur during unrelated editing operations.Because the issue occurs across multiple unrelated plugins and features, it does not appear to be caused by one specific third-party plugin.--------------------------------------------------Internal ErrorSometimes After Effects displays the following message before closing:<RenderTaskManager> <1> Destructor:GetOriginalProject() is nullImmediately afterwards After Effects reports:After Effects has crashed (0,42)--------------------------------------------------Other Crash BehaviourIn many cases After Effects closes instantly without showing any Adobe crash dialog.Windows Event Viewer reports:Application:AfterFX.exeException Code:0xC0000005Sometimes Windows crash dumps are generated
Using AE 25.4.0 (Build 86)after pressing spacebar to play a comp, the play head will move about 5 frames then stops moving. Yet the clip still plays in the comp window. Pressing the spacebar again to stop the animation, the play head suddenly jumps to the point in the timeline where i pressed the spacebar to stop it. None of the properties in the effects control panel update in real time. In order to see the values of animated properties at any given frame, I have actually click into the properties panel, then it updates. The only assets in this comp is a text layer with a few glow effects. I'm using Windows 11, Intel Core i9 (3.2GHz), 64 GB RAM, Nvidia RTX 5080
With GPU acceleration enabled ("Use Graphics Processor"), Photoshop's canvas displays images brighter than the actual pixel data. Confirmed by comparing the canvas to the layer thumbnail (which shows the correct, darker image) and to the same file opened in Preview.app and Camera Raw. Disabling GPU acceleration and restarting Photoshop fixes it — canvas then matches thumbnail/Preview.Steps to reproduce:Open a JPEG or ARW file (GPU acceleration on, default) Compare canvas to layer thumbnail — canvas is visibly brighter Photoshop > Settings > Performance > uncheck "Use Graphics Processor" > restart Reopen file — canvas now matches thumbnailExpected: canvas matches actual pixel data. Actual: GPU rendering over-brightens display only (underlying data is correct).Likely related to a broader shared GPU rendering issue — other users report the same artifact in Premiere Pro and After Effects.
