Time remap loop out does not work correctly without continual resterisation

I found really interesting (and annoying) bug in simple use case of time remap loop.
When I use loopout on precomp with animation and there is NO continuous rasterize, AE make glitch at last timeremap keyframe which describes loop area. It shows frame somewhere from middle of animation instead of last-first one.. So loop is unusable, because it always have this oneframe glitch at the end of cycle. There is no timestretching, no effects, the same framerate.. just really simple animation (without any keyframes, just offseted layers) which need to be looped.
When you enable "Mr. Sunny" (continuous rasterize) switch on, everything is OK and loop working like a charm.
I prepare simple project where you can test it. Just put playhead at 2nd keyframe of loop and switch the switch, you will see..
It was tested in all latest major AE versions (23,24,25) and result is the same.
I attached screenshots without and with rasterize switch on and also project file (AE 25, but as I said, it does not work in any AE version from 23)Screenshot 2025-01-12 224846.pngScreenshot 2025-01-12 224815.png

Hi @vobrazovka,

Thanks for the screenshots and the sample project, this kind of effort on your part is so helpful to getting issues solved more quickly.

I have some good news, this isn't actually a bug, it's part of how Time Remapping works. Your "animation" pre-comp, is in fact, 00:00:02:17 in duration, which is why the second Time Remapping keyframe in "main loop" shows this value; but go inside the comp, navigate to the end of the Timeline and you'll see that the last frame shows as 00:00:02:16.

What you can do is go one frame before your second Time Remapping key, set a new key at 00:00:02:16, then delete the key at 00:00:02:17. It's tricky, and for looping animation, this behavior can be annoying, but there is a logic behind it—enabling Time Remapping gives you the full duration of your comp, which is 00:00:02:17 (you would likely want this to be the case if you had video that was longer than your pre-comp's duration), but in this case, you want your loop to end at the last frame of your animation, 00:00:02:16.

Thanks,

I tried exactly solution you mentioned, it was first thing which became to my mind. But it did not work. It always shows five stars at last keyframe, no matter where in timeline the keyframe is... There should be frame with no stars.
So it looks like it is bug. It does not make sense why to show at stricly defined time frame from middle of the composition. There is no logical reason for this behavior by my opinion.  you can try what you suggest. I bet it will not work. (I tried it again, screenshots attached)
It also not make sense why it works when "sun"  switch is on (it shows empty picture as was inteded) and not work, when you disable it (shows five stars what is state from middle of precomp).
...
And, yes, it is really as I told you..
I put new keyframe to 2:16 and then deleted one at 2:17. It seemed to be OK.. for a while.. 😄
there appears another funny glitch (screenshots 3 and 4).. In the middle of composition just dissapeared all stars for few frames.. Just blink for two or three.. So I cleared cache and now.. Voila.. The old problem which I reported is here again..
Look at screenshots.. you can try it too.. If you will think it works, just clear cache and will see that it is not.Screenshot 2025-01-13 185108.pngScreenshot 2025-01-13 185101.pngScreenshot 2025-01-13 185029.pngScreenshot 2025-01-13 185022.png

My apologies, I see exactly what you see, and I've filed a bug on this. Enabling Collapse Transformations (the switch actually changes function when you toggle it on a comp vs. a vector layer) does indeed give you the desired frame, but depending on your comp, clearly this is not always an acceptable workaround.

Thank you for reporting this!
