My AE is crashing a lot, especially while using Trapcode Particular.

Hello,

I'm reaching out because AE is continuously crashing, especially while using Trapcode Particular. I'm using the latest version of Trapcode (2024.2.0) and the latest version of AE (24.5).

When I create a new project, this issue occurs again as soon as I start using Trapcode and making the particles complex. I have found that the plugin works better (and it seems that it doesn't crash) when "Rendering" is set to GPU (in the plugin options, not the AE project). However, my particles don't always look perfectly composed when the render is set like that.

I'm already in conversation with Maxon to fix this, but I wanted to ask this community too, just in case you can help me as well. I've tried everything I found in these forums: updating GPU drivers, uninstalling/reinstalling AE and every plugin, continuously clearing the cache... But it crashes again and again, almost every time with the message shown in the attached screenshot.

I can't work, and it's been frustrating.

You can find more information here:
Operating System: Windows > 10 64-bit

GPU Model & Available: VRAM NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 (8GB/2)
GPU Driver version: This One
Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 16-Core Processor
Memory: 65536MB RAM

Thanks in advance,

When you get the crash dialog (image.png), can you make sure to enter your email address and hit submit if you haven't already? We can look up the crash in the crash logs and see if we can help.

@jenkmeister We have already done that. This problem has been occurring for two weeks. I just got the crash dialog again and entered my email right now. Thank you for your help!

I believe I've found the logged crash. It appears to be within a thread that Particular is creating and not something managed by After Effects. So connecting with Maxon is the right thing to do here. You might try rolling back to an older Particular version incase it is something new to a recent update. Unfortunately there isn't anything we can do from the After Effects side.

Thanks for looking into it, jenkmeister.

Moving the thread from Bugs to Discussions.

Having the same issue, had to go back and install an older version of AE to make it work. Super frustrating, especially when trying to edit existing projects.
