I've been trying to animate a little something but whenever I press space or 0 to preview it, it won't stop, it takes a really long time IF it does. I never had this issue before I updated to CC2020, it can't be a media cache or a RAM issue, cause I literally only have like 5 layers of text;; It just keeps looping over and over.

From reading the comments below, looks like it's a bug. This just started happening to me to and it's mad frustrating. Adobe really needs to desperately debug their programs.

Does anyone have an ETA on when this will be fixed for Mac OS? It seems like a lot of people are experiencing it, and it's absolutely killing any momentum I had going today. The playback is not only difficult/impossible to STOP; it is also CHOPPY. I'm trying to do the simplest smooth walk cycle and I can't even see what I'm doing. I just downloaded the latest update but that doesn't seem like it's doing anything. Please give us a clue when to expect this to be fixed!

Adobe, this is BEYOND ridiculous. I'm fighting with XD and its countless bugs every single day and today I encounter the same bloody thing with After Effects. The newest version doesn't even open so I'm on 17.6. This is after I couldn't render in Media encoder because AE couldn't find it despite it being there and usable by Premiere. I upgraded and it didn't even open. I downgraded to 17.6 and now this.
The state of Adobe software is a joke and it's fast deteriorating. I've been a professional user for over 20 years and I can honestly say that quality has gone down at the same speed as pointless applications started appearing in CC.
Could Adobe please stop releasing continuously and actually have some QA and real testing before releasing yet another turd? There was a time when a release would last for years and had NO major bugs in it, can we go back to that for the sanity of your users?

Agreed. It's called Agile Developement and as you probably know it's the trend, not at all specific to Adobe. Basically it's a conscious decision be a "Jack of All Trades and Master of None".
It's something I've been thinkin about a lot lately and wondering why it's come to this.
I think It's a combination of many things; from the way current economics work all the way down to effects of reduced attention spans of those who're currently coming of age and moving into positions of management and decision making. As well as the reduced attenion spans of end users who desire constant and instant gratification
It's the not so old argument of whether or not multi-tasking effects the quality of individual tasks. Clearly it does. Its like my annoying friend who stares at her phone all through dinner and then claims just because she's looking at her phone doesn;t mean she isn't listening. It does. And I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for it to get better. Too much has been invested in it and there are egos involved. Also there's no financial reprecussions due to the economics of perception rather than production.
Personally...I'm just grateful that the electricity is still flowing. And I'm prepared for when it stops. 🙂 LOL

Same here!
AE 17.7.0
It may have to do with full disk cache.
Nevertheless, super annoying, so typical for After Effects.

This bug continues in AE 18.4.1 on a Retina 5k iMac late 2014, Catalina 10.15.7. Seems to be affecting these machines more than others, which isn't surprising given it took Adobe nearly 2 years to get the program barely functional on said machines a few years ago. I had to use an older version while continuing to pay for the new version, perhaps I should backpedal again. God I hope my upcoming Macbook Pro M1 Max doesn't have similar pains.

This is still a problem.
AE 22.1.1
imac pro 2017 on Big Sur 11.6.2
how is this still not fixed. it literally kills workflow when I have to wait 5 minutes for the loop to exit with no way to stop it until it decides it's done

I am experiencing the same problem in Premiere Pro right now. I tried to chat to support and they told me it is a corrupted file. I tested it and it's DEFENTITELY NOT! It really sucks. A few weeks ago everything was working great and then suddenly this bug came up. I reinstalled my whole computer trying to fix this but nothing changes. I am unable to cut and edit my videos for now and paying lots of money per month for this mess. This really is a nogo.

Version 22.3.0 Build 107. I have the looping playback set to "play once". What happens is that after it plays, it will still loop from the beginning but WITHOUT AUDIO. The video will still play.
If I enable the loop playback, it will loop but WITH AUDIO.
Essentially, no matter the loop playback setting it will still play from the start once it reaches the end. It's just a matter of having audio turned on or off by that button. Strange bug.

For me - and I hope for you... if I double-click on an item in the project frame...one of the impoted images... it will stop previewing the compsition and open that item.

Hi, thanks for the tip!
It's not working for me anyway, since the software freezes while still playing in continue, so I can't click nothing.
Adobe? Someone in there?

This problem still persists (possibly a Nvidia driver issue as one person posted), but I found an easy work-around without rolling back the driver. If I click the play button in the Preview panel, it stops playing, and then the space bar works again. So far so good! If the spacebar stops working again, just click the play button to stop the playback, and the spacebar will work again, at least while it's in RAM.

Continues to persist in AE 2023 on my 16 inch M1 Macbook Pro Max, but almost always when there is an MP4 file in the timeline which is used for animation reference. I can hit the spacebar several times and it will not stop. I'm going to test if it's because I had to disable "hardware accelerated decoding" in order to cirumvent the (also ongoing 🙄) bug where ProRes footage shifts gamma when this is enabled.

This happened to me for the first time today, and I was able to fix it by going into Task Manager, twirling open the AE item in the Processes tab, going down to "Adobe DVA 2024", and hitting End Task. There was a brief snippet of sound, some panels flickered, but the preview stopped and I was able to save my work. (I'm on Windows 10.)

So this happened to me again today, but just using a .WAV audio file in the timeline. Honestly, I'm about to blow a fuse over how many of these actual user requests go ignored while the team focuses on useless 3D object importing.
