Using After Effects on a Network

We are running into some issues with using After Effects on a Network.  Is anyone else experiencing issues?

can you be more specific about the details of the network you're using? is it just machine to machine or are you using a shared storage device? if so what's the storage? small office or corporate environment (can you fix it yourself)?

It's a corporate network with a SAN.  There are no network issues or disk i/o problems.  However, when using AE 2018, there are issues with the preview window and it is very slow to respond when you make changes.  Sometimes it never responds and is just blank grey until you flush cache, close AE, etc.

and you've verified that if you duplicate a project locally that it works as expected?

Yes.  Also, when working offline it works fine.
