InDesign

I have an indesign document with a ton of different images, 1 on each page of the doc. I’ve updated a few of these links today and the newly linked updated images have this icon on the bottom left corner which I’ve never seen before. Any idea what this is or what it means? These are not text boxes, there are no primary text frames in this document and no threaded text.It is definitely attached to the linked image and nothing else, as it moves around with the image when I move the image.   

Hallo Community, seit einiger Zeit habe ich seit einiger Zeit Probleme mit Schriftarten in InDesign. Nach Adobe Programm-Updates werden in der Regel bei bestehenden und noch vor dem Update voll funktionsfähigen InDesign Dateien viele Schriften nicht mehr korrekt erkannt. Ich bin dann stets gezwungen, fehlende Schriften mit Kennung OTF erneut zu suchen und zu ersetzen. Das ist sehr störend und behindert mich in meiner täglichen Arbeit mit InDesign. Die bemängelten Schriften sind installiert - nur nach Updates werden viele Schriftarten (wie Segoe UI oder auch Calibri) mit der Kennung OTF angemeckert. Wird bei Updates die Schrift-Datenbank von Adobe InDesign beschädigt oder wo liegt das Problem? Wie gesagt: Dieses Phänomen wiederholt sich seit einiger Zeit nach jedem Update. Bitte diesen Fehler durch eine Anpassung der Software lösen. I’ve cleared preferences through library, and when starting indesign.It has several bugs randomly appearing. eg. Suddenly can’t undo, takes ages to quit, there’s a slight delay importing images...

I am experiencing a reproducible issue in InDesign: A pure vector AI file (barcode) is placed and linked in the document. When exporting the PDF via File → Export using PDF/X-4 or similar, the AI graphic remains fully vector-based. However, when creating a PDF using File → Package → Create PDF with the exact same PDF preset, the AI graphic is rasterized and becomes an image in the resulting PDF.  Expected behavior: The AI file should remain vector-based in both export methods when using the same PDF preset. Question: Does the Package → Create PDF function use a different internal export engine or rendering process compared to the standard Export workflow?Is this a known regression in recent InDesign versions?

As per above. Cant easily redistribute link without causing confusion. Can i recover it to my dashboard?

Whenever I try to export a PDF, an error screen appears on some page. Even after checking each link individually, the error persists. It continues to happen even if I delete the page in question. The error appears on any other page and in any file I'm working on. Creating a pack or working offline doesn't help either. 

I have a half-page postcard with small images embedding. I’m trying to save it to my CC files so I can share with a collaborator, but it either never saves or takes 20-30 minutes to save. Is that normal?

I’m trying to relink files in a document without updating them so I can review them 1 by 1.I have successfully used  .reinitLink() on a mac, but It won’t update the link status until I reopen the document. I have been able to test sucessfully with .relink, but I don’t want it to update automatically.Examplevar pathVar = "/FullPathToAsset/"app.activeDocument.links[0].reinitLink("file:"+pathVar)I tried using links[0].update() after reinitLinkBut nothing happens. I am in the LABORIOUS process of resurrecting a very old book document for reprint that used now-outdated fonts. What a nightmare, EVEN when Adobe has available modern fonts—and even ones of the same name! Like Adobe Garamond (c. 1990s) v. Adobe Garamond Pro today. SOOO much manual replacement required——global search and replace is not seeming to work in some cases, perhaps due to the fact the original doc was QuarkXPress and is being opened in InDesign (rather poorly, by the way).I’m now looking for replacements for Carta (symbols), Frutiger (Adobe, via foundry Linotype), and Optima (source unclear).???

I am having issues with InDesign 2025 constantly crashing. I even installed older versions in an effort to solve the problem. When I open the application, it freezes, and I have to force quit to close it. It is completely unusable. I have a new desktop computer running Windows 11, enough RAM and a high-speed internet connection. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Furthermore, I cannot download or open my creative cloud files. It simply says: "Download failed". Any ideas?

Is it possible to script the saving of all open InDesign documents, including those that require 'Converting' from one InDesign version to another, directly over their former versions.I often need to do this with large numbers of documents, and it seems that going from one document to the next when I have 20 open documents, clicking save, being offered the ability to save the document directly over itself because InDesign helpfully opens the save point of the source doc, clicking SAVE then clicking OK, then closing the document, and moving on to the next, one, well this looks like a clear case for automation.Given that I have my own version control and excellent backups, I don’t have to worry about overseeing every step in an operation like this (that’s to say, given that it’s a reliable script).

So I have sets of illustration in separated artboard (same layer) in Illustrator. But when I am importing it to InDesign, some parts of the illustration is missing. It occurs on some illustration, especially reused graphic asset from Freepik. Funny enough, this isn't happening using the previous version of Indesign. Right now I am using the current latest 21.0 (not beta). What I have done for the workaround;saved into a new file, only the error artboard. not working.saved the error artboard into EPS, works. But I wish everything works in native format.  

I recently updated my InDesign 26 version to interim version 21.2 and this preference doesn’t seem to be working anymore. I have the “Default Relink Folder” in the File Handling preference set to “Most Recent Relink Folder”.Previously when I had say 10 InDesign documents in a folder, I would open the first and relink to my Links folder that is not in the same folder as the InDesign documents. Then every subsequent InDesign file in that folder that I would open would look to that Links folder I just linked to and update appropriately. Since this interim update, that preference doesn’t seem to work and I have to browse to the links folder again for each InDesign document.Hoping I am missing something or that this can get fixed.Thanks,Don 

Share for review hasn’t been working for several days now. I’ve signed out and still doesn’t work after logging back in. I’ve also restarted my computer. Attaching a screenshot of “Error getting invited people” - I don’t even use the invite, only the link. Spins and spins, never loads share options.Running version 21.2, Windows 11

Hi,Getting an issue with indesign and not recognising the calibri system font installed. From what I can see, there’s a new version of calibri with a latest windows update. V6.26 > V6.27.   Myself and colleagues are effected, and this is spanning across a lot of our documents. Replacing the font does not fully solve the issue as any forms text fields will not update to the font box.  I’ve seen a similar post regarding this with the same issue on times new roman which is marked as resolved but it most certainly not.  FYI, installing calibri via adobe fonts does not work, we are getting a conflict likely due to it already being a system font. We also running the latest version of indesign. Any help on this?

All my books (several hundred) are formatted using the Times New Roman TTF font. The new version of InDesign 21.0 changes that to Times New Roman OTF.Fortunately, version 20.0 is still installed. I know from experience that strange things can happen in updates.. However, the problem with the latest update has also been introduced in that version.OTF is only available with a licence, which I do not have. I would appreciate some help.Cor van Wijgerden     <Title renamed by MOD>

I opened files that i was working on in December 2025 - tweaked something - and could not save. FILE IS DAMAGED!  no matter what I do - anything I touch cannot be saved as an indesign file. 

I’m experiencing two ongoing issues with InDesign’s Review feature that have been consistently reproducible for the past three months. Issue 1: Review links fail to update on larger documents When uploading a publication for review, I can no longer update the existing review link. A persistent error appears stating: “There was a problem updating the artefact.” This workflow functioned reliably until approximately three months ago. To rule out local issues, I tested the same document and process on a second machine, with identical results. Through testing, I’ve found that if I halve the document size (testing both the first 30 pages and the last 30 pages independently to rule out a problematic element), the review link does update successfully. Hi, I’ve installed Adobe InDesign for the first time on Windows 11, but it’s not launching. The application gets stuck on “Starting up service registry” during startup and does not open, even after waiting for more than 5 minutes.I have already tried reinstalling InDesign, signing out and signing back into Creative Cloud, and restarting my system, but none of these steps worked.This is a fresh installation and I’m facing this issue from the first launch itself.
