P: Photoshop creates a gude log while working with files

Community Beginner ,
Apr 14, 2022 Apr 14, 2022

[WARN] WGudeRequest::applyAutoDetectProxyAutoConfigSettings Failed to autodetect proxy settings. WinHTTP Unable To Download Script. last error code = 12167

Vielen Dank.

Photoshop started to deposit error logs with names starting with "GUDE" on my Windows 10 system after recently upgrading to to Photoshop 24.1.1.   It happens if Photoshop is not open and I double click on an image but NOT if I open Photoshop first and then open the file from the Photoshop File menu OR Idouble click on the file.

MfG Franz

Hi @Franz-Jupp, thanks for the post about the gude files. In case you missed it, this bug has already been acknowledged by Adobe. On January 25, 2023, they wrote, “The team is aware of this issue and we should have a fix coming in an upcoming release. Stay tuned.” Please see this thread: https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/p-photoshop-gude-log-created-when-working-wi...

Meanwhile, we've found the easiest way to avoid this is to launch Photoshop first before opening any files.

This gude log problem seems to pop up often when there is a new version release.  It would be nice if the development team automatically checked for this on new releases.

Please tell the IT team just comment out the gude-yyyy-mm-dd.log creation line in the code. It is unacceptable for a production version to spam the user directory with log files... These files cannot be deleted unless PS is closed.

How much longer do we have to deal with this issue? 😞

Bonjour

Merci

Windows 10 Pro
22H2
Build 19045.2486
Photoshop 24.1.1

If I double click on a file (.psd .tga etc.) to launch photoshop, then a guide-date.log file is created (e.g. gude-2023-02-08.log) in the same fodler as the file I am opening.

This does not happen if photoshop is already open.

When there is a fix, Adobe staff will announce it in this thread and it will be marked correct. In the interim, use one of the workarounds that have been mentioned.

This only started happening from one of the most recent updates from creative Cloud to Photoshop (I'm on v 24.1.1). Highly annoying. I'm on Windows 11 and if I double click a Photoshop file then these gude log files are created in the same folder. If I right click the Photoshop file and then Open With > Photoshop, then no gude files are created.

So for now the workaround is to right click and open with, but this is also highly annoying as you can imagine.

I saw that this was posted about in the Illustrator section as they have the same issue.

The log file contains the following type of info:

When will this get fixed?!

By Robbie Khan

Adobe is aware of the issue and is working on a fix. We won't know "when" until they announce it. One thing you can do in the interim is to open Photoshop first.

Thanks, when I first saw these files I thought someone had hacked my network or something lol until I Googled the file contents and it all became clear.
