Save thumbnails cache for project panel thumbnail view

The processing of thumbs at each opening of the project is really distressing. I would like to have the option to save these metadata at disk for faster start.

Hi All,

Sorry for the problem. We have added GPU support for thumbnails in the latest beta builds, and we believe thumbnails generation should be quicker and more efficient now.

Please check out the latest beta build version from the creative cloud and let us know how it goes there.

You can download the latest Beta builds from Creative Cloud --> Beta apps
https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/creative-cloud-public-beta.html

If you still face this issue, please share your project files(&med

I would like to add that having to regenerate thumbnails every time that you close or open a bin is incredibly frustrating and time consuming. Please set up a thumbnail cache similarly to how the Adobe Bridge Thumbnail Cache is setup.

+1 to have thumbnails cached, and not having to wait until they're generated every single time we re-open a bin.

Are you ever going to do this Adobe? Ever? It is so fundamental and people have been raising it for a decade now and you just never do anything about it. As soon as I save up some money I'm buying a mac and switching back to final cut pro. You guys are a joke and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

I am in 100% support of this. Working on projects that require more than 1 bin, which is every project!!, the thumbnails have to reload every time in 2018. I don't remember 2017 being nearly this slow. Come on Adobe!

Yes, this feature is a no-brainer. ADOBE PLEASE LISTEN TO US. Premiere Pro wastes HOURS of my time on every project as I have to wait for it to reload thumbnails each time I open a project or a bin. 4k clips? even worse thumbnail loading time. FCPX doesn't seem to have this problem. Why am I paying $30 per month to use Premiere CC when basic performance features don't progress?

I have waited long enough for this. It's to a point now where it's literally not possible to work with big projects. You are forced to switch to list view and color code or name each clip which is not feasible. Either way it just takes up too much time. I have moved to Davinci Resolve as a result. I can't believe that a free video editor is so much faster and better. Sorry Adobe, but I have given you a chance and waited long enough. You basically forced me to move to another solution. And now I still need to finish paying the 'contract'. So I can't even cancel right now. Definitely not impressed.

COMPLETELY AGREE!!!! THE THUMBNAIL ISSUE IS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING! Sort it out ASAP! projects with a large number of clips are just too painfully slow to work with!

April 2019 and still not fixed I believe. Would love the thumbnails to preload all instead of only loading the ones that are currently shown in the bin browser window. Always affraid to scroll down or up because of the loading time. Better to have some waiting time during the startup of Premiere than during the editing itself.

I worked with Final Cut Pro for years. I switched to Premiere after so many people told me it was better. Overall, it is excellent. But the thing I miss the most about FCPX is it's thumbnails and clip organization. I work on big projects with hundreds of clips. In FCPX, it was so easy to sort all the clips by applying keywords to them. And I never had to wait for thumbnails to load.

Please, Adobe, help us out!

I found a solution (partly) -
you need to "set poster frame" for each clip, you can do it quickly by using short key SHIFT+P

Failing to find any solution, I created an AutoHotkey script that will attempt to pre-load all the thumbnails in your bin by simply selecting each item in the bin. Sort of a temporary solution, at least for Windows users.

Feel free to download it, use it and share it.

https://gist.github.com/Voyz/07b43c4111e7cf1f1a0424fe179a3609

Requisites:

- Windows
- AutoHotkey (it's very easy to install https://www.autohotkey.com/ - no programming knowledge needed)

Usage:
1. Open Premiere
2. Select the bin you'd like to preload, even better - fullscreen it using tilde ` key.
(Make sure you're in Icon View, not List View)
3. Run this script
4. Manually input the number of items in the bin
5. You can grab a coffee or browse internet in the meantime (though be aware keyboard may not work 100% well)
6. Repeat for each bin you'd like to preload

This shouldn't be such a big issue to fix - and I see from the comments here it has been requested for a couple of years now! Come on Adobe and fix this issue!

Throwing my hat into the ring on this as well. Little things like this would be a huge help.

Well, I've got some time to kill while I wait for a few hundred DJI thumbnails to load. So... grabbing a coffee, chiming in on this thread. I really had some momentum going there. The creative part of my soul just died a little bit more. It will again later today when I have to load a few hundred GH5 thumbnails. Or if I dare close this bin and open it again later.

DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.

I have a very fast machine and very fast drives. They deliver, Premiere does not. I'd even use proxies as a (super lame) workaround if those didn't come with massive headaches. https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911233-premiere-pro/suggestions/33858397-proxy-workflow-int...

Isn't it possible to generate ALL the thumbnails in one time? Preferably during project startup, media importing, or when the system is idle (and not doing anything anyway).

Sometimes I just give up (and postpone) editing because of the loading of the thumbnails in the media browser takes too long. Actually it doesn't take that long for the ones to load that are visible in the browser (Davinci Resolve still is much faster though), but when I scroll down or up to the ones that were not visible yet it starts to generate those. Why not all in one time so they are available whenever needed? Really frustrating. Fast thumbnail availability should be basic stuff for pro editing software (that you pay a lot of money for).

Just to give you an idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbCvkeJvLv4

This is after clearing cache (and even deleting the cache folders) and after regenerating the cache-files again.

My specs are: I7-5930K processor, 32 gb of RAM, Geforce GTX 1060 6gb and I edit from a internal Samsung SSD 970 PRO 1TB M.2 drive (where also my cache directories are located...not ideal, but should be fast enough). Besides that I have the latest Premiere version, an up-to-date windows 10 and all of my hardware drivers up-to-date including the Nvidia studio drivers.

I even changed from a good HDD (wdc wd2003fzex-00z4sa0) to this SSD hoping it would improve the thumbnail generation and it helped a little bit. But I still think loading time is terrible.

This is a big issue...maxing out my 64 GB RAM everytime just to create some thumbnails. There must be a way to solve this - and please do it fast Adobe...this has been an issue for quite some time now. First I thought it was me or my machine, but its not - its PPro, thats so insanely slow to generate these simple thumbnails.

I have the same issue working on a long documentary, using state of the art equipment with dedicated SSD's, and waiting ridiculous lengths of time for thumbnails to load. Major loss of productivity. Could be a deal breaker if not fixed.

Hi everyone
Could anyone tell me if it's happening with specific formats / codecs ? Are some codecs fast to generate the thumbnails and others slow ?

For example if you have .BRAW or REDRAW R3D files, are the thumbnail generated fast ? And then for others files for example H264 .mp4 files it is slow ?

If not, it would mean there' something wrong in general in Adobe Premiere Pro. If yes, then it is up to importers and we could improve this situation

I'm in Premiere Elements 14 in a project only 4 minutes long and every time I do ANYTHING all the thumbnails have to refresh. I thought there must be an easy fix, and find this problem has been around for at least 6 years! The problem is so distracting with so much visual clutter happening that I've found myself WAITING for it to stop so I can focus on my next task. OMG, Adobe,,,,I've paid Adobe $ since 1998 and will keep Photoshop, but your not fixing this is unforgivable.
