In this case, the images from the linked page could work; thefy are quite large, and if they are sized to around 1.5 x 3 inch, they come close to being 300 ppi.

Position the images where you want them (all full opacity and Normal blending). Then carefully mask out the parts of each image you want to hide. with soft edges to help them blend together. Top it off with hand-painted colors on a new layer - this is the only layer that you need the blending modes on - experiment with it until you get the effect you want. Post your end result here - I'd be interested to see it.

If the color of the borders will be the same on all pages, go to your Master page, make a new layer at the bottom of the layers pallet and put your rectangle there. It will not be easily selectable on your document pages. If you want different colored boarders for each page, make the bottom layer and put your borders there on each page. Lock the layer after you have created the borders so you don't accidentally select them while working on the page.

One way: Make a solid rectangle of one color Then make a very thin and a very thick bar of the other color. Place the bars at the top and bottom of the rectangle, and use Object > Blend > Make to create a blend between the bars, then use Blend options to adjust them to suit. View > Clear Guides will remove all the guides from your page. And I will repeat what I said about putting all of the names for each column in one text box It will make all of your spacing and alignment much easier. You can copy an entire column from the spread sheet and paste it into your document. It will come in as a text box, and you can set space after attributes. There is no reason for each name to be its own layer, and doing it that way is just making lots of unnecessary work for yourself.

First, something this text-heavy is not really a job for photoshop, unless you don't have InDesign or Illustrator. Also, your approach is making this far harder than is has to be. You don't need a mask to make the text white - just choose white as its color. Your headline can also be in one text box, and its component words colored and styled separately. Each column of names can be its own text box with a paragraph return between each name, and with long names wrapped. Space between paragraphs will keep the names neatly separated.

What I see is expected behavior. Page 9 is on the right, so page 10 would have to be on the left. If you want your new section to begin with an odd-numbered (right-hand) page, then the section before it has to begin with an even-numbered (left-hand) page.

If you have your grid the way you want it, but with the ends hanging off the page, select all and cut. Draw a graphic frame the size of your page plus bleed, and use Paste Into. This will mask the extending edges of your lines.

You mentioned that this is part of a book. If you add all of your chapters to an InDesign book file, you can set the book to Start Document on next even page. The will force each chapter document to start with a spread, and allow you to automate page numbering throughout the book.

I don't think you will ever be able to get what you want with Image Trace (Especially if the image you showed is the exact resolution you are starting with). I think the only right way to do this is to sit down with Illustrator's tools and redraw it piece-by-piece.

Is the problem that you have a lot of Master pages, and are worried about missing changing some of them? You could have the Page x of xx pages on one Master Page, and base all other Master Pages on that one. Then you would only have to change it once, and it would carry across all the Master Pages.

You have a several options for accomplishing this. 1) Group the images, then Cut. Draw a picture box the size of the page, and then Paste Into. 2) Save the Document, and then use Place. InDesign documents can be placed into other InDesign documents, and they will be treated as images. (upside - you can easily edit the original, and have the changed reflected in the new document) 3) Save your page as a PDF, and place it into the new document.

If I understand you correctly, you can accomplish this using the Start Paragraph: in Next Column setting in your paragraph styles. If each column is one paragraph, you can apply this to all paragraphs. If not, then it can be applied to the first paragraph in each intended column.

The two most likely suspects: Either the color is not pulled out into the bleed, or bleed is not selected in the PDF output dialogs. A third possibility - the color is pulled far enough off the document, but bleeds are not set in the document setup - AND the PDF preset has Use Document Bleed Settings checked.

Depending on what you are trying to do with the maps, selecting all and converting it to a Live Paint Object may be helpful. That's how I deal with Autocad DWG files, which are made of segments like this also.
