If you made sure that you are on the same version (or to be more specific on the same release) with AE and AME and your composition is not transfering to AME (sometimes you have to wait a bit) you can try: a) opening AME and just drag n drop your AE project to AME and if that opens - just chose composition that you need to render b) open AME and try to open AE project by going to File/Import (open) If you are on windows you could try to restart your workstation, open AE and try to export to AME. Sometimes process responsible for exporting AE with AME called dynamic link can freeze in windows process manager and only manual closing or PC restart helps. As for exporting from AE you can chose - for smalle file size - Quick Time/Animation format. File will be still big but smaller than straight AVI. Or you can instal and use one of pro intermediate formats as ProRes, Cineform, DNxHD. After that import that file to AME and render to whatever you wish (i guess it would be mp4/h264).
