Artboard and art are independent from each other, so no, there's no way. But you could first delete the artwork and then chosse "delete empty artboards" in artboard panel. Could be useful if you want to do this to more than one artboard.

That setting only affects pixel based effects - have you used any? You can change it in the Document raster effects settings. When creating a new document, watch out for the setting. For documents using the print document profile, the resolution should already be set to 72 ppi.

You may try a pattern fill instead. There are some examples for it in the swatches libraries. You can re-color them or create your own.

Does Illustrator have a merge layer option that will take a bunch of objects and merge them into one object? this would only help if the objects are overlapping each other. Are they?

This is the Illustrator forum. In InDesign CS5 you can't save directly to CS3. You need first save IDML then open it in CS4 and downsave from there. But you might loose a lot of formatting that way. Depends on what kind of styles you have used in the layout. When your client or co-worker needs a CS3-file, you should use that version as well.

That's not a radio-button, but the target-symbol (and -button) While you can use it to select objects, its main use is to assign appearances. Using it for selection purposes may in some cases lead to irritations.

[Jongware] correctly spelled I think this is important. In order to simulate the layout you need text that interacts correctly with the spelling and imposition. In German we have lots of long words, so especially Lorem Ipsum doesn't make too much sense.

You could use Object > path > Offset path If you need trapping of different colors, see the menu in the pathfinder-palette. But you should talk to the printing people about trapping before you apply it.

Don't forget that Illustrator can only calculate this based on the dimensions of the bounding box. This hasn't too much to do with the optical alignment the takes into account space that derives from the objects' individual form. If there's lot of white space on one side of an object, it will look as if the space is not evenly distributed although from the math perspective it is.

Documents and their sizes are somewhat different in Photoshop and Illustrator. Illy has one big document, art boards only define areas that will be printed. You can't define a background color in Illy. If you want to have something black, you'll have to create an object with a black fill. Toggle between screen modes in Illy by hitting F

It's not possible to change stroke weight the way you want. You can : - assign uniform strokes and change their weight with the script - draw brush strokes (calligraphy) change with pressure - change stroke weight after drawing with the width tool in CS5 - change stroke weight of some tools before drawing by using keystrokes (e.g. blob brush)
