Explain what you mean by "stuck in a huge size". Does it take up too much of the screen, or does it need to be scaled down?

One way to do this is make sure the body of the serpent is centered in a square document. A few concentric circular paths can serve as guides. Run Fiter > Distort > Polar Coordinates with Polar to rectangular. Use Image Size to expand the width by 314% (the value of pi).

The Curves Adjustment Layer, as in your screen shot, only affects the RGB channels. To modify "extra" channels, you need to select that channel in the Channels panel, and Image > Adjustments > Curves (Control+M)..

That tutorial is using Photoshop 2020, and you are using 2024. In previous versions, the Transparency stops were visible, but, in Gradient Map, they had no effect. This caused a lot of confusion, because people thought it should do something, but Gradient Map only maps colors, not opacity.
The latest versions have removed the stops from the interface for Gradient Map, but are still there for all other uses of Gradients

There is no problem. Gradient Map does not support transparency. If the Gradient has opacity stops, they are ignored.

There was a recent thread about this. It seem to have been fixed in the latest Beta, so the next regular release should have the fix.

The 16 means it is 16 bits per channel. 8 bit per channel patterns have plain icons.
16 bit patterns work fine in 8 bit documents, and vice versa.

If you look at the individual Channels, you can see the contour lines have the most contrast in the Green. You can make a duplicate Channel of the Green, and use your choice of contrast enhancement tools on it, and combine it back into the image.
Here, I used Curves to make the solid blacks turn white, and make the lines darker:
Then I used Apply Image set to Color Burn, 75% opacity:

The Path hasn't disappeared; it's just deselected. You can make it active by clicking on it on the Paths panel.
To stroke a Path with a Brush, or any painting tool, make that tool active after making your Path, and THEN press Enter.

Before you run the filter, select Convert for Smart Filters from the Filter menu (if it's not already a Smart Object). After running the filter, right-click on "Filter Gallery" in the Layers panel, and choose "Edit Smart Filter Blending Options . . ."
Try setting the blending mode to Luminosity, or one of the other modes, such as Soft Light, as you see fit.

I was wondering this years ago. One of the engineers who posted a lot here then said that a fully transparent pixel has NO color, and when opacity is added, it uses the Background Color.
I was using the Filter Foundry plug-in, which can directly manipulate Transparency, and was trying to do an "un-erase"filter, but everything came back in the Background color.

Other than only using "Classic Gradient" and NEVER using "Gradient", I haven't found any.
This has been an issue for well over a year now. I find the on-image controls for the "new" Gradients to be useful, but why are there really two different tools with the same icon? And why does using one break the interface of the other? And why hasn't it been fixed in at least fourteen months?

Photoshop does not have a Spiral tool, but you can construct one.
In a blank square image, draw a horizontal line from one side of the doc to the other with the Pen tool, and use Alt + T to drag a copy downward. Then use Control + Alt + T to repeat the Transform.
With the Direct Selection tool, select all the points on one side (left or right), and drag them downward, so that they line up with the points on the other side. Use a guide to help the snapping. You should end up with a series of equally spaced diagonal lines. Select the path, and stroke it with the Brush.
Run Filter > Distort > Polar Coordinates > Rectangular to Polar to make the spiral.
