Link my ID to what? Forums are migrating to where? Isn't Adobe supposed to hire the best information architects out on the market? Doesn't San Francisco have like the most Information Architects / Developers per capita. How difficult is it to setup a decent forum site when you have some of the most intelligent IT folks working for your company? Oh wait, I think Adobe might become the new Microsoft soon. Adobe, your user system is horrible, and confusing at best. At one point, I got a screen that said that the Forums were now using Nicknames. What? Nicknames? Am I in the early eighties with a 2400 baud modem dialing into a BBS? Give me a break. I already signed up, why do you want Nicknames. And how is a nickname different from the username that I entered when I registered? Regardless, I tried about 4 "Nicknames" and then your system said it was already in use. I like the concept of converting the forum page into a PDF. However, while the url links are converted as live links, they are not indicated in a blue typeface or underline. I would like that. I also like the view for Preview for Print. VERY clean. Could that become the actual layout view?

Well, not surprisingly the Adobe team went and mucked up what I feel is the best forum on the Internet. They made it look like every other forum on the Internet, with just too much going on. The clean, plain simple look of the current forums is superior to any other I've ever seen, and changing that is just not worth whatever new 'forum features' might come along. If you can't add new features with the current look, then just don't do anything. Specifically, the original author of the post is a "who cares" type of thing. It's not needed in a message view. This is worse than what we now have. Likewise the "views" and "replies" are not required information, and only serve to mess up the view. This is worse. The message Subject has too little room to display, so it gets wrapped to a second line. This is worse. Maybe it's not obvious, or not implemented yet, but I see no flags telling me there are replies that I haven't read yet. This is worse. When you open a message thread, we have

The thread with this name that was closed with no explanation did serve a useful purpose, so I am opening a new one to replace it. Speed is back to normal now, and if there was a shutdown, I wasn't here to witness it.

Very clean, very nice. Nice options for paragraph & text... attaching files, list goes on. Hopefully and especially new users will behave and do not screw up the clean look with bunch of useless smilies, signatures and useles stuff. My Fear: If possible, please Adobe keep people away from using signatures of ANY kind, it would just mess up the enire clean structure of a thread. I'm completely confused about how to register for the new forums. When I come here, there's a screen that talks about "linking your Adobe ID" to the forum ID. What is that screen talking about? When I input my e-mail address, it gave me an ID I've never knowingly used anywhere. I signed it and posted a message but now I can't get back in (and I don't want that ID anyway). How exactly are we supposed to "link" these two forum sets and continue to use the same forum Name? Thank you.

When compared to other software out there today (like 37Signals' Basecamp, for instance) all this Adobe online software seems over-complex, confusing, hard to navigate. In fact compared to hundreds of other online forums out there, it is severely lacking. Just hire a decent usability consultant and I'm sure that after a few days work the usability of the site could be vastly improved. Or at least he or she could design a new navigation structure that would be improved. Then you'd have to implement it. I get feeling that Adobe is building this with perhaps a visual designer and a team of Java developers. Perhaps they are hacking some existing software to fit a new shape. But this kind of software needs to be built from the starting point of user needs and user processes. Not cobbled together by developers on the fly. b Points I don't like is this concept of "points". I really don't like the competitive energy of those points. I've been to non-business forums where people award each other "karma." It's stupid and can be petty when someone has more karma than others. I have no idea who gives points to others, but I don't like them. I wouldn't mind a record of when joined or how many posts, but I think that belongs in a profile, not next to the responses. b Answering posts Who marks a message as answered? As mentioned before, the OP could state the post is answered, but others could find a problem. Will there be a way for the Forum Moderator to amend an answered post as "With Note"? b Sorting the messages Will there be a way to sort according to the OP? If not, it seems a waste of a column. Ok, maybe i am doing something wrong. I have got that email about the changes coming soon to the Adobe User to User Forums. I have logged into my account using MY current User to User Forums account and password. The i have try signing in on Adobe ID with my Adobe Adobe User to User Forums account information's (user name and password). I get "Adobe ID and password do not match". They say "Link your existing Adobe Forums account to your existing Adobe ID. By linking your accounts, you will preserve your authoring history on all previously posted threads". What can i do next? Where shell i write? I have lost myself into their pages being send from one page to another in the pursued for an costumer support email or anything that could get me into contact to solve this. Please help.

I noticed that when I would go back to check a post that the view number keeps counting. So if I go back to the post to see if there was a response the number will keep counting. Seems like it would make a high number of inaccurate views. Not that it really matters but a count based on a session rather then a refresh seems like it would keep the number down.

I am trying to convince Spanish speaking users "from the other side" (ex MM forums in Spanish) to post here their opinions about the changes that are almost here, but have not been succesful. All of them do not use browsers as such to access the forums, and they seem convinced that they are participating, not in a forum, but in a newgroup, housed but not controlled by Adobe. In fact, in the topic lists they are identified as "newsgroup users" while browser users are identified by their screen names. One of the oldest and most respected participants there has just posted a message in which he states that NNTP users do not access those forums through the Adobe site, so they don't need an Adobe ID, just an email address which doesn't even have to be a real or existing one. I find this strange, as it would discriminate against those of us using normal browser access. I cannot post in there if I'm not a registered Adobe user, and that means that at some stage I have to provide a valid ema

Hi - I think it's extremely valuable to know which topics have been correctly answered or reached some other successful conclusion. That being said, it would also be useful to be able to include "limit search to topics that have been answered" to the Search function. Good luck.

If I go to this page http://adobeforums.adobe.com/index.jspa scroll down to the "Foros internacionales" button (that's what I see although most of the rest of the page is in English), click on it and then on the "España" button, I'm taken here http://adobeforums.adobe.com/community/international_forums/espanol where the first item in the list is two weeks old. There is however a TOP PARTICIPANTS box, at present with two names, one of them mine. And if I open the profile of either, I find a list of fairly recent messages, including some of today. And if I click on the title of one of these messages, I'm taken (for example) here: http://adobeforums.adobe.com/message/1616675#1616675 and the route is shown as: > Adobe Forums > International Forums > Foros de usuario a usuario > Spain General Discussion > Discussions But the route i get if I open any of the messages in the window with only old messages is > Adobe Forums > International Forums

Maybe I missed any discussion about this while trying to shield myself from the textual napalm, but... The "Documents" tab as shown in the Clearspace forum's tabbed UI might be one of the best things about what we could see after the switchover. I think about how many times Iand many othershave spent a not-insignificant amount of effort to compose lengthy, clear, highly detailed replies to questions about specific problems, techniques and workarounds. Often these can be accompanied by step-by-step instructions, with carefully arranged and annotated screenshots. And then they slide down the front thread index page and thereafter speed headlong toward archive obscurity. Instead...think about being able to keep these sorts of long-form FAQs in the "Documents" area? Not quite sure how it works...if the editing window remains open for longer than, say, 30 minutes, or if the individual "documents" will be a collaborative thing or what. I see it is easily possible--just look at Jive's forum! Some major issue I see with the 700px or so size you're currently using. * Code blocks are practically useless for indented code. * Put it into threaded mode and have a good laugh at the 250px wide stuff columns by the time you get down to a 4th reply. * You're already losing 240px to the annoying "Actions" right-hand column. People with theater-proportion screens could at least ameliorate this issue slightly. * I believe you're using a large font than they are the Jive site, so your content already flows longer. * It's frustrating to see 300-400px of dead space that I could really be using just sitting to the right of the forum.

My Adobe ID is not my e-mail because that address may change (and it has). These things tend to get set in stone. I have no interest in calling an Adobe representative who will tell me after many more words that: no you're stuck with it, we can't help you. Can I specify another e-mail for forum messages to be sent to?

This is probably too basic, but I would like to check to see what Adobe has me signed up with. The current preferences don't say anything about a new Adobe ID or links to old screen name. Had a hard time with the original message to provide new info., only took after several tries, so not sure if successful. Thanks

This regards the migration to the new forums. Adobe seems to think I have an Adobe ID and the it is probably my email address. As far as I know, I DON'T have and Adobe ID. I am able to log in to the forums, however. Is there a way for me to establish or create an Adobe ID? Bill Denholm

Speed is my #1 criteria. Speed of finding answers, getting answers, posting questions, and just general page loading. I view these forums almost exclusively from my daytime job. I can't be see as continually web surfing. I need to get an answer to particular questions quickly. So page load speed is important. This is why the current forum is so great- just text, hardly any css, no javascripts, no images, no avatars, no advertising, no Flash/flash. I also need a way to see as much as possible of each topic on screen at once. Currently I can see almost all current topics without scrolling my page. I can see if my post is answered, or new posts are there, etc. Having to scroll 3 pages with lots of wasted space time consuming. Having only 1 page worth of topics, but with tons of fancy frames and wasted space and such so I only see, say 15 topics per page, will kill me. I'd rather see 50 or 100 topics listed on one page than need to load multiple pages. Perhaps a pref to show XX items per

I came here because I received an e.mail asking me to provide my log-in details so my forum membership could be updated. No, I didn't use the link in the e.mail -- not sure what, exactly, but something in the e.mail made me suspicious it was a scam. But the e.mail said that an interim step had been implemented, so that when I came to the forums I would be greeted with a dialogue asking me to recreate my log-in, and that hasn't happened. So was I right to be cautious? Is this some fast-moving scammer in action?

The Preview of the new forum does not show Adobe Premiere or Premiere Elements. Is this just an oversight on the demo, hopefully?

Forum users should not be allowed to participate under more than one user ID. This would help prevent forum abuse for the purpose of personal amusement and raise the substantive quality of input for everyone. Roddy

Adobe, there are several GREAT forum packages out there that are well-established, well-supported, highly-configurable and well-liked by the community. Why re-invent the wheel creating new forum software? Use your resources to customize an existing package and moderate the forums. Take all the money you'll save and add headcount to the Lightroom team! (OK, I'm biased...)
